Biggest Updates From #F82017, Day Two
.... Facebook is going to read your mind someday.... seriously. And they are going to create connectivity everywhere (4G/LTE be damned!) so that you can use FB everyday, all the time, and never leave.
1. “Direct Brain Interfaces”
A team of 60 FB engineers is working on building a brain-computer interface that will let you type with just your mind without invasive implants. The team plans to use optical imaging to scan your brain a hundred times per second to detect you speaking silently in your head, and translate it into text.
(Don’t worry...? It will be non-evasive).
2. Increased connectivity via Terragraph, Aquila and Tether-tenna
Terragraph = designed to provide high-speed internet in dense urban areas.
Aquila = a solar-powered unmanned plane/drone to "beam connectivity through the stratosphere."
Tether-tenna = a small helicopter attached to a fiber line that can be flown to create a virtual tower a few hundred feet above the ground. Tether-tenna could be deployed immediately in the case of a natural disaster or other emergency and then used to provide connectivity for a few months while any other sources of connection are still lost or under repair.
3. New Updates for 360
Facebook will license two new 360 cameras: The x24, with 24 cameras, and its little brother the x6, with six cameras, can each capture in six degrees of freedom for more immersive 360 content.
Additionally, they are improving the 360 video experience by predicting where you will look.
Also: Facebook unveiled a software development kit, that will give users the ability to capture 360 video or still images of their experience that they can then share on Facebook or other social platforms.
