Lizbert: Didn’t really get to interact with her much at all, but I imagine that Lizbert is kind of a household name in her universe, like a Grumpus Steve Irwin, so the Journalist mostly reacts to her with “HEY THAT’S STEVE IRWIN :D”
Eggabell: He didn’t get to interact with her nearly as much as he would have liked either, but from what little time they spent together, he’s pretty fond of her! He thinks she’s very sweet, and he respects how unbelievably hard she works to take care of everybody. He also worries about her.
Filbo: Sweet boy! The Journalist loves him (platonically). He really appreciates his hard-working and earnest nature, and he gets pissy at anybody who insults Filbo in front of him, so people are learning not to do it so much anymore.
Gramble: Another close buddy! He worries about Gramble a lot because of the not-eating-real-food and the sleepwalking, and although he’s also an animal lover himself and he can understand how Gramble feels about the Bugsnax, every so often he still tries to convince him to let him bring him something more substantial to eat. Needless to say, they tend to fight and then make up a lot because of it.
Wiggle: Imagine that you crash on a deserted island and for reasons completely unknown to you, Miley Cyrus is also there. Imagine the sonic dissonance. The Journalist thinks she’s wonderful and gets along with her amazingly, but he never quite manages to get over feeling a little bewildered just seeing her hanging out around the island instead of being on TV.
Wambus: The Journalist is very attached to Wambus and frequently asks to help him out in the garden if his own day is going slowly. He likes that Wambus is so honest and straightforward with him, as well as being diligent in his work, and he also (more secretly) likes that Wambus can knock over a tree with his bare paws.
Beffica: Initially found her very distasteful and disliked being called her ‘Bestie’, but after only a little while he started to warm up to her, and the more time they spend together, the better and better they get along. He will frequently chastise her when he thinks she crosses the line with her snooping, but they make up quickly afterwards. She always helps him with his claws when he breaks them.
Triffany: THE COOLEST AUNT HE’S NEVER HAD. He knows absolutely nothing about archeology, but will sit enraptured listening to her explanations for ages. He also adores her sense of humor and her camaraderie with Floofty, and he likes to bring her any cool rocks or shards of bones he finds while he’s out hunting. He thinks her accent is delightful.
Cromdo: He has very mixed feelings about Cromdo, a lot of which stem from the fact that he can see his future self in him and that Alarms Him. He’s always pleasant towards him, though, making idle conversation whenever he thinks he looks lonely, and if either of them would ever confront their own feelings of helplessness and inadequacy, they would probably spend a lot of time sadly fist-bumping. Same hat.
Snorpy: There’s a reason one of his dialogue options towards Snorpy is “I would die for you’. Snorpy is one of his favorite people on the island, and the Journalist spends a lot of time drawing up charts and theories with him and discussing what they each think is going on in This Horrible World. Snorpy is paranoid by nature and the Journalist is skeptical by trade, so it’s almost a fifty-fifty toss up as to who hooks the other into their respective ideas for the day. And sometimes when he’s sad, he likes to ask Snorpy to say ‘aluminum’ :)
Chandlo: POWERFUL BODY, POWERFUL HEART! The Journalist has joined Snorpy in the Chandlo Appreciation Squad (albeit in a distinctly more platonic way), and likes to shoot hoops with him when he has time. The two are very close and have even developed their own secret handshake, which always ends with a chest-bump that sends the Journalist flying backwards ass-over-teakettle.
Floofty: Ah, Floofty...the Journalist’s secret crush. He spends a frankly inadvisable amount of time hanging around the research tent with them, bringing them Bugsnax to experiment on and/or just listening to them talk, and he usually doesn’t really leave until someone else calls him or Floofty actively shoos him away. He’s desperately seeking the approval from them that he never seems to be able to get (he needs everybody to like him So Much), and he also has a very bad and creepy habit of standing outside their window at night and silently watching them sleep.
Shelda: It took a long time for them to get along. At first, the Journalist assumed that Shelda’s high-and-mighty behavior was only for personal gain, the way most preachy people like that tend to be, and while he was never actively hostile towards her, he was still noticeably cold. It took a lot of talking and even more snooping for him to understand her motives, but afterwards he warmed up towards her greatly and started treating her a lot like his own grandma. He leaves a lot of Snax in the Box of Purification for her, because he hates how alarmingly bony and underweight she is.
