Just downloaded 'Circles'. The new app for local events/news posted by people near your current location! Created by a guy called Evan, who sent me a nice welcoming message telling me how many people around my area also use Circles. The layout is quite simple, I got the hang of it easily. People are using it like Facebook and Twitter though, so it makes it seem pointless. I think it's just a case of people getting to know the app and learning more about it. It will probably end up being a bit more popular if people give it a chance. Not a bad idea really, I struggle to find things to do in my hometown so hopefully it will be a useful app for me!

Video Is Taking Over!

Snapchat is slowly being forgotten about, but what is going to replace it? Video! More mobile devices have excellent video quality allowing the user to take really good videos of a decent file size making it easier to share. Vine is a great social video app that allows users to take videos and share them with their friends via other social networking sites. Many examples of popular Vine videos can be searched on YouTube and more recently, Facebook Pages have been created, highlighting the best of Vine. I've met loads of people who have seen Vine videos but have no idea what Vine is! So having these Facebook Pages gives Vine a chance to get popular.

Reaching 3000

Demon FM's Facebook and Twitter accounts are both very nearing the 3000 milestone for followers and likes.

Its nearing the end of my time at Demon FM and it would be great to hit those figures before I leave. 

Posting photos on Facebook has created such a big impact on interaction for Demon FM's page, even if it isn't increasing the amount of people 'Liking' the page. Polls and photos have always remained the most popular posts as it is a very simple way to get involved that doesn't require too much effort from the consumer. 

Engaging the consumers is so important, otherwise what are we using these platforms for?

Snapchat - The picture sharing app that deletes sent images within 10 seconds or less.

Snapchat can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices. Users are able to take pictures, edit them and put a message with them to send to friends. The user can decide how long the receiver can see the image and after that amount of time, it gets deleted forever. 

After hearing about Snapchat, it made me think that it would only be used for 'sexting'. I had no interest in downloading the app. I then saw a lot of people using it and having fun with the app. These people including my flatmates. 

I then decided to download it and it is incredibly addictive! I don't use it to 'sext' before you think anything! Its purely a bit of fun between friends, sending pictures of silly faces and funny things throughout my day. 

It is pretty pointless to think about it, considering the pictures get deleted and you only see pictures for a short amount of time (and takes up all my data usage on my phone!) but its effective.

Demon FM have recently tried using Snapchat with listeners. An account was created for Demon FM and people who wanted to request a song would Snapchat us with what song they wanted. 

It wasn't incredibly popular but its a fun, new way to think about integrating new apps to the station.

I went to a networking event hosted by me and the rest of the people in my class as part of our Creative Media Entrepreneurship module!

I have never been to a networking event before but I highly recommend it if you are looking for a job! I’m sure there are many networking events around your area, you just have to search for them!

I met a recruitment agency based in Milton Keynes, which is where I am from. Leicester is where I am studying for my degree. I will eventually go back to Milton Keynes. It was great to meet them and they gave me ideas for opportunities I could take up with them.

Confidence with talking to new people has always been a struggle with me. With a little push and shove, I eventually felt more comfortable talking to people about myself and what I can offer them.

It’s quite apparent that social media is becoming vital in businesses, and many business owners don’t know how to approach it so they are looking for people who know what they’re doing.

An example of visualisation in radio. demonstrates how radio is being seen online. this makes radio much more interactive than before. If people can see whats going on behind the microphone, they will feel like they know the show better. 

Its like seeing backstage footage at a concert. it feels exclusive to the listener.

As said in a previous post, DemonFM are hosting this year's Student Radio Conference and it's happening TOMORROW! Today I have been helping the team with jobs to make this conference one to remember! The executives from SRA ARE really impressed with our work and efforts. For the event I will be taking some pictures to put on the Facebook and Twitter for DemonFM. I can't wait until people arrive. I want to meet the future of radio!

Technical issues that you need to make public? DemonFM's website is down... And we needed to let our listeners know. Tell them what's wrong, a solution/ way around it and try and make light of the situation! No one complained about it because we gave them alternatives and with a comical picture, it will distract them from the issue!

Tried something different by posting about Leicester on DemonFM’s Facebook page with a link to Demon Media’s new website.

This may not be so relevant to radio, however, we are a community station, so we should posting about things that are likely to affect the community.

This post generated 9 clicks on the link that I included in the post. Normally we would get 0-3 clicks on a post.

This shows that the people who ‘like’ DemonFM’s Facebook page are interested in what’s going on in their community!

Just because no one commented or liked the post, it doesn't mean that they might have just found out new information and shared it with the people they are with or other people online!

Last week, Twitter celebrated 7 years of being online. How amazing is that? I didn’t even know about Twitter until about 5 years ago. So it takes quite a while to make a social media site popular and successful. People have been asking me whether I think Pinterest will be popular. I joined it to see what it’s like and I found it quite captivating, however none of my friends are using it. Recently I’ve seen a couple more friends joining it, so like Twitter maybe it will take a few years to lift off! For DemonFM I don’t think it is necessary to use Pinterest so we’ll just stick to Twitter and Facebook for now! DemonFM are gaining more and more interaction on Twitter. Facebook seems to be dying a little bit in the sense that no one is interacting. I need to find some useful tips to gain more activity from users on Facebook!

VLC

Just had to download VLC player for my computer at home, and the site says its had over 10 million downloads this week alone?! Makes me wonder why they don't charge for downloads, not that I would want to pay for it.. I've just jinxed it haven't I?
