Do miniature guage tank engines exist? If so I think it'd be really funny to have the tiniest engine on sodor (hypothetical miniature tank engine) and the biggest engine on sodor (Big Bertha, a UP Big Boy that Noramby bought and had regauged to (barely) fit on the NWR's tracks) were like... girlfriends

Hey what if you were an engine working a Steelworks and you were forced to scrap your one and only companion, traumatizing you to the point that you can no longer look at the molten metal without seeing his face in the embers...

And then some weird old guy made an exact replica of your lost love with all of his memories (except of you being forced to kill him) and he was stationed on the same island as you?

Wouldn't that be fucked up or what?

There's like a 90% chance I never mentioned my "Two Diesel 10s" idea for the AU here so here it goes.

In Italy during the early 1960s, there was an experimental diesel engine built with a hydraulic claw intended as an extremely useful rescue engine. This project was given the name "Il Mano di Dio" meaning "The Hand of God." The project was deemed a failure, as the engine could not properly control the claw and kept accidentally destroying things, at one point nearly killing one of workers. After this incident the Diesel was sent to be scrapped.

Decades later, Sir Robert Noramby was putting together a collection of historic and unique engines for his estate. This collection was a mix of original engines purchased from museums/heritage railways and replicas of scrapped engines, such as "Il Mano di Dio." This replica of the dangerous diesel matched it's reputation. Rated 10 out of 10 for devious deeds and brutal strength. A mad engine that hates everyone but himself. It's no wonder that engine was scrapped...

Except it wasn't. The night before the diesel was to be scrapped, it had been stolen from the scrap yard. The case went cold while the diesel was taken out of the country and eventually overseas to the United States. From there it was bought and sold for one place to another over the decades, learning to work with his claw over time. In 2007 he was purchased by a floridian logging company and shipped to an island south of Bermuda to chop up a rare species of tree. In 2008 the company went under and everyone on that island was stranded. The other engines were steam engines chosen specifically because all they needed for fuel was the wood surrounding them, with the clawed diesel, now known as just Dio, was doomed to run out of fuel. He was kept in a shed and only brought out in emergencies, his fuel tank getting a bit lower each time. In time it was depleted and he laid in that shed motionless, forever.

That was until the ship carrying Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt to an american railway show got lost in a storm and found the small island surrounded by mist. Upon learning the story of the lost logging camp, Sir Topham Hatt and the ships crew managed to load everyone on board and take them to America with them. The steam engines were given to the preservation railway but the railway had no supplies for repairing and maintaining a diesel engine. So they brought Dio back to Sodor to add to the North Western Heritage Railway's growing roster of diesel engines. Dio is much nicer than his replica, but that really isn't saying much. He's rude, stubborn, and short tempered; but he's not unreasonable. In his own words, "I don't like ta start fights, but I love ta finish 'em." He prefers his fellow diesel engines over steamies, but it's not impossible for steam engines to get on his good side. After trying to work at several different spots around the island, he eventually settled in at Edward's brachline. There he helps out at places like the small Wellsworth scrapyard, loading cargo at Brendam Docks, and even lending a claw to the Sodor Emergency Response Center when disaster strikes.

British Railways controls the area on the Vicarstown side of Henry's tunnel. This includes the Vicarstown station, the Dieselworks, the Ironworks, and all the connecting areas such as the sheds and yards. The rails over Vicarstown itself are all on viaducts in order to keep the roads and tramways undisturbed by the engines.

The regional manager for British Railways on Sodor is the opposite of Sir Topham Hatt in every way. He is a very tall man with a thin but athletic build, his voice is deep and smooth, and he's rarely seen wearing anything less than designer clothes. Most often a jet black suit with leather gloves, sunglasses, and a wide brimmed hit that covers his face in shadows. He is a ruthless businessman who values profit above the safety and comfort of his workers; especially his engines. His name is Derek Torze, but most know him as "The Slender Director."

Sir Bertram Topham Hatt is certainly no stranger to working with men like him, and knows exactly how to sweeten the pot in order to get what he wants from them. Their first major deal was connecting the two railway lines by rebuilding the track and tunnel that once connected Crovan's Gate to Vicarstown and using the station as a changeover point between Gordon's "Wild Nor' Western" express and a mainland express ran by a pair of diesels named Pip and Emma. Not long later the deal was extended to include goods trains in both directions.

Crovan's Gate Crew about Thomas: The masterpiece of the workshop. His design was inspired by the multi-purpose E2 series and each of his parts was custom made to create a perfect ratio of speed, strength, and fuel efficiency. The blueprints alone costed thousands and took over a month to finalize.
