In a verse where Scrapper is alive, how do you imagine ConstructiProwl happens? :D
I think that during the war the structies would realize that their team is still sorta missing something. Someone with a pragmatic, strategic approach (since its implied in IDW that Scrapper died bcuz he lacked strategic foresight and I like that idea) that could help truly round them up.
Of course they’d be rather hesitant about bringing an outsider into their gestalt. Other decepticons are sorta inherently untrustworthy — the nature of their faction is to always seek to climb rank and to get one over eachother, so looking for their seventh there doesn’t turn up with many promising candidates.
But when they spot a smoking hot praxian frame from across the battlefield, and they learn that THIS is the infamous autobot head tactician, part of their gestalt (i.e. Scavvy and Mix) have entirely set their mind on him. The rest are either intrigued (Scrapper and Long Haul), or hesitant, though begrudgingly willing to agree with the reasoning of the choice (Hook and Bonecrusher).
Issue is, of course, that this is the autobot head tactician.
As the war goes on, Prowl grows increasingly suspect of the sudden increase in encounters he has with the constructicons. Whenever he’s out in the field, its clear they try to single him out and drive him away from his allies. His first guess is they’re trying to take a vital member of high command out, so he quickly develops strategies that help him escape or avoid them entirely.
(Only part he’s slightly confused about is the teasing remarks, the wolf-whistles, and the nicknames they call him whenever they do get close enough, though, at the time, its hard to take them as anything other than veiled threats)
When the war ends, though, this behavior continues. Suddenly, wherever he goes, he’s sure to see green-and-purple. In diplomacy meetings, he and Scrapper constantly clash, as if the other was testing him. He starts receiving random little gifts, from pieces of earth crystals scattered around his office (or even in his habsuite) to cubes of elaborately prepared fuel. The other autobots start teasing him about his 'secret admirer'.
It might be somewhere around this point when he puts it all together. When he shares his theory with a trusted mech (jazz? Op?) they encourage him to give the structies a try. After all, peace time is perfect for mechs to get their second chances.
The structies are overjoyed their attempts have actually worked. The more they see each other, the more they agree that they’ve made the right choice.
