Jason Todd x fem bookstore worker telekinetic! reader (dude idk what job name a bookstore worker has and don’t question the telekinesis, this will in fact, be a series.)
Jason meets who he thinks is the most gorgeous human being he has ever laid eyes on and tries flirting with her, by always buying a book from her, she just thinks he must really like Jane Austen.
It was a cold, rainy day in Gotham, not a surprise for Jason. He was a bit bored though, so he decided to check out some new bookstore that opened up on his street, he’s walked past it before and it looks comfy.
As soon as he entered the bookstore, he was met with the smell of book pages, vanilla and a hint of cleaning spray.
People around the bookstore were either looking around, chatting with some friends about book recommendations or students were doing work at tables. There was a small cafe tucked in the corner of the shop.
Jason let himself wander around a little until a certain book caught his eye. It was a special Pride and Prejudice edition he didn’t have, he took it off the shelf and scanned the cover. It looked quite old, the pages yellowed with time.
He took the book and wandered around a little more, it was nice and quiet. After wandering around enough, Jason decided to pay and go home. There was a line at the register due to some exhausting costumer at the front.
“Sir, you have to pay for this book, this is a bookstore, not a library.” The woman at the register said, seemingly exhausted. Jason’s head snapped up at the voice, and his eyes locked onto the gorgeous bookstore worker. She was clearly trying to hold it together and stay calm as the costumer complained about “fairness”.
One of the customers from behind the complaining man spoke up and told the man to piss off if he wasn’t going to pay. The man complaining huffed and tore off.
The woman at the register thanked the costumer and suddenly Jason wished it was him who had called the man out. Not long after, it was Jason’s turn to pay, who had been zoned out, not realising he had to step forward until a soft voice called:
Jason’s head snapped up and his cheeks flushed red as he hurried forward and let the book collapse onto the little wooden stand the register was on. Great job idiot, standing there frozen like an idiot because of a pretty girl.
The woman at the register scanned the book’s tag and checked the cover.
“Pride and Prejudice, huh? Good pick.” You said, setting the book aside. “Do you want a bag?”
Jason nodded dumbly, then realised he should probably talk. “Y-yeah, that’d be nice, thanks.”
That’d be nice!? Who says that to a bag?
The woman nodded and put the book into a small, paper bag, then typed in the total payment into the card reader and held it out to Jason, who fumbled with his card before swiping it.
You handed him the bag with a bright smile.
“Have a nice day!” You said softly. Jason blinked and tried his best to smile back: “Thanks, you too.”
Practically sprinting out of the bookstore, he chastises himself the entire way back home, curse him for not being flirty, he could use Dick’s shamelessness for once in his life.
Over the course of a couple of weeks, Jason visited this quaint little bookstore whenever he had the time to and thankfully, you seemed to always be there when he was.
What Jason wasn’t thankful for, however, was how he turned into a flustered mess anytime he spoke to you or attempted to. The Red Hood getting flustered? He’s not pathetic, but his attempts at flirting were.
One thing about Jason Todd is his awkwardness, he’s not some playboy like Bruce or charming like Dick. Sure, he may be very intimidating and built like a Greek statue, but he reads Jane Austen for fuck’s sake.
And not in a performative way, which is something Jason tried desperately to prove to you, by buying more niche Jane Austen books he already has or other literature. He’d go home every day and cringe at himself for it.
Although, he has to give himself a pat on the back for you not seemingly being freaked out by him, on the contrary, you seemed to enjoy his presence, always giving him a small wave when he entered the shop and even having a coffee with him on your break once. Sure, it was in a platonic way, but it was already a step forward towards getting to know you better. Who knows, maybe you’re into awkward guys.
a/n: (So reader will in fact be a person with telekinesis and will have a traumatic upbringing 🤩🤩, erm also I kinda just copied her backstory like that stranger things lab one, though I did change some things dw.)
