“Fair enough. Doesn’t make being here any better but you have a point,” Mallory admitted. She looked over at her and arched her eyebrow, “You aren’t busy? Don’t you have, like, cool surgeries or something to learn about or something?” She nodded, “yeah, they let me up every now and then. I’m not allowed to go very far but I can walk.” She shook her head, “Listen, I appreciate what the tube is doing for me. The whole ‘allowing me to breathe thing’ that’s pretty cool. I don’t appreciate, however, the sounds it makes. That’s a lot less cool.”

“I’m not busy,” Sofia shook her head. “I haven’t been busy in weeks,” she added, a slight bitterness in her voice. “Do you want to find somewhere not very far to go? It’ll probably distract you from the tube trying to serenade you.”

“How much dollars does things to help hurts stop? I have five dollars, is that enough?”

“You can’t really make pain go away with money. I mean, technically, you can because treatments cost money...” Sofia shook her head. “Are you trying to help stop Mallory’s pain?”

“Both of my parents are doctors I’d be okay,” Mallory let out a small sigh.“Yeah, I guess that helps some. They’re busy though,” she shrugged. “Hopefully in about a week. They said I have to keep the handy dandy tube and gross stuff that comes with it sticking out of my chest in for a few days I think.Then they’ll do more tests and hopefully take it out and then I have to wait for that to heal some.”

“But they don’t really have everything you need at home,” Sofia countered with a playful shrug. “I’m not busy, I could be your mom for a day,” she said through soft laughter, “are you walking around yet? Are they allowing that?” Sofia winced a bit at the mentioning of the tube, “yeah, that’s not a very fun thing. But, it seems to be doing its job, so you owe the handy dandy tube a very big thank-you.”

she smiled once sofia said yes. “awesome, you’re going to love it. at least i hope you do. if not than that sucks because i’m going to have to redo it all.” she lead sofia into the building. “weeks.” she said shaking her head. “maybe about a week after i last seen you.” she told her with a half smile on her face. “so tell me what you think sof?” she said. expending her arms out wanting her to give her, her honest opinion. “and please don’t hold back.” she moved some boxes out the way. “there is more to look at in the back and the restrooms.”

Sofia shook her head, laughing at Hazel’s words as she followed the other brunette into the building. Her eyes scanned the inside, growing a little wider as every bit of the place seemed to scream ‘Hazel’. She hadn’t thought much about the shop in the past few weeks, but if she had, what she was seeing was exactly what she would’ve imagined it looking like. “It’s really, really nice,” Sofia looked back at Hazel, a genuine smile on her face. “I’m sure there’s a better, much more appropriate word instead of nice, but my mind’s totally spacing,” she said with a quiet laugh. “There’s more?”

“Yes. That’ basically a ‘yes’ so I’m gonna take it!” she pumped her hands in the air before smiling. “We’re good. He’s growing up so fast it scares me.”

“It is not,” Sofia teased, laughing softly. “If there weren’t about a thousand Shepherds in Seattle, maybe you’d have a more definitive answer.” She grinned at Ellis’ response, “that’s great! How old is he now?”

she nod her head at sofia’s response not knowing how to take that answer. when she asked about the shop hazel turned around and smiled looking back at the her she answered. “it’s going well. it’s a shit load of work but it’s coming together. i’ve been doing nothing but focusing on the grand opening.” she explained rather merrily. “would you like to see it? i painted the inside myself with a bunch of ideas that i had in my sketchbook.” 

“That’s great,” Sofia said with a wide grin. She looked over at the building, briefly remembering the first time Hazel had mentioned it to her, which now seemed like forever ago. Sofia caught her bottom lip between her teeth upon hearing Hazel speak once more, and part of her wanted to decline the offer and continue on her way home. She felt completely undeserving of Hazel’s kindness. But instead, she nodded her head. “Yeah,” Sofia tucked a loose curl behind her ear, flashing Hazel a shy smile. “How long’ve you been working on it?”

Mallory looked at Sofia, her facial expression remaining unchanged. All she did was give a small shrug. Usually, a hospital stay would roll right off of her like water off of a duck’s back but this one was different for her. “I’d probably be better if I wasn’t here..” she muttered, fiddling with the blanket that rested on top of her. 

“You know, I’m gonna have to disagree with that for some fairly logical reasons,” Sofia winced before shooting Mallory a playful grin. “But, I get what you mean. At least you’ve got family close by?” She shrugged her shoulders, slipping her hands into the pockets of her lab coat. “D’you have any idea when you’re getting out of here?”

Mallory laid in her hospital bed, moving from app to app on her phone trying to occupy the alone time. Facing away from the door she heard it creak as it opened, “What is it this time? Blood? New IV?” She asked before slowly sitting up and turning to look at the person coming in her room, quickly realizing that it wasn’t one of her nurses. “Oh. Sorry,” she said quietly.

“Sheesh,” Sofia laughed softly. “And here I thought the nurses had their patients mixed up when they told me about the grumpy patient in this room,” she teased as she walked further into the room. “I just came to check on you, not in a doctor-ly way. Y’know... see how you’re doing?”

“yeah, we could do that but who knows what would happen next. I don’t think that he would leave it be like that. anyway, we aren’t scared of him, are we? we have to face our "problems”.“ she said simply with a kind smile. "and he is a good doctor, we need him.”

“We’re good doctors, too. Great doctors,” Sofia smirked. She let out a short laugh before sighing, “but you’re right. We’re also good people who do the right thing. But the doing the right thing part’s mostly you,” she chuckled.

“just put that way in the back and please don’t knock anything over on the way there.” she couldn’t stress that enough. the only reason she hired these guys was because her cousin begged like a child to use his company and since she gave her a discount she agreed because she was real tight on money. just before she walked into her shop her eyes glanced to the left to see sofia on her phone. she stopped dead in her tracks as her heart jumped from her chest. hazel cleared her throat. she missed the girl a lot. “hurry up alright.” she told them as she made the brave move to walk up to her. “sofia. hey.” she said with a small smile on her lips. if hazel was being honest she did look too hot. she knew the walk all to well. “late night.” she said glancing over her outfit. jealousy was in the pit of her stomach as she wonder who she could of been with. but it wasn’t in her place since she was the one that called things off between them.

Sofia’s eyes moved slowly from her phone up to Hazel. “Hey,” a small smile grazed her lips as she slipped her phone into her bag. Sofia looked down at her outfit just as Hazel did before responding. “Um, kind of,” a very faint laugh escaped Sofia’s mouth. She felt the urge to tell Hazel about how she’d come to be so close with ‘Greg’ and his wife, simply because she used to tell Hazel those kinds of things. Sofia instead cleared her throat and smiled once more, “the shop’s going well?”

“Would I be your absolute favorite if I said that I brought gifts?” she said hopefully as she pulled a bag out from behind her. She sighed before sitting next to Sofia. “I was living with my aunt and uncle in New York with Chris.”

“Well... you’d definitely make it harder for the others to compete,” Sofia grinned. “Right, yeah, I knew that, someone told me that. How’ve you guys been?”

“Yes, but you see, I anticipated this and made you your favorite instead.”

“And that’s why you’re one of my favorite Shepherds,” Sofia said with a wink. “So, um, I feel... a slight obligation to ask where you've been. Just to make sure you weren’t, like, kidnapped by the mafia or something.”

hazel was outside her shop supervising the guys unloading boxes from the truck. “hey! be careful with that.” she scowled “i paid way too much money for all this. money that i don’t even have.” she said as she signed the papers. “you boys are doing fine let’s just not drop another box alright?” she said handing him back the clipboard so she can go back inside and start unpacking. @sofiaxrst

Sofia’s eyes were glued to her phone as she drowsily made the walk home from Greg’s Andy’s. Essentially, she was doing the walk of shame; walking home from someone’s place earlier in the morning than she wanted to be up, and wearing the clothes she’d worn the night before. However, she was missing the sleeping with someone part. As soon as she heard the sounds of people ahead of her, Sofia glanced up from her phone. She was met with the sight of men moving boxes into a building, and courteously stopped to let the men get whatever they needed done. The break from walking was an added bonus. It was when the familiar brunette caught her eye that caused Sofia’s breath to hitch slightly, and landed her eyes back in her phone, hoping that the man would finish soon and she’d be back on her way home.

“I believe so.” meredith nodded as she looked at the young woman again. “it’s his patient and the surgery is quite interesting so I don’t think that there is a way how to get him out of OR.” she chuckled. “maybe we could report that he is high or drunk. let’s call it a revenge.” she winked at her as she said it but of course she didn’t mean it seriously.

“I dunno,” Sofia shrugged her shoulders, grinning at Meredith. “We could always argue that he seems too stressed to operate, and that he’s acting rather impulsively.”

once the theater was over, meredith turned to sophia and a smile appeared on her face. “wow, that was something. thanks.” she smiled once again and wiped her eyes which were still a little bit watery. “you are not alone. I hate him too. he is like the worst person I have ever met. it’s hard to deal with him but we gave him a lection today. it’s not safe to mess with us.” she joked.

“You’re welcome,” she smiled, a nervous laugh brushing past her lips. She hated thinking about it, but she couldn’t deny the fact that she had a taste of what Meredith was going through. And hearing the man getting mad over something that Sofia knew from experience that Meredith couldn’t really control. Sofia took a deep breath before looking back at Meredith, “does he have to be in the OR?”
