Imagine Jonah getting used to look through Gerry’s eye tattoos while Gerry’s travelling with Gertrude. Especially after Gertrude started to be wary of all eye imagery - this is how Jonah sometimes tries to take a peek. However, He tries it while Gertrude is in the US with Gerry only to be confronted by a wall of foam that makes everything look blue/white. Jonah thinks that it looks a bit like the lonely, but foggier. He tries to focus more on what he sees, if there is movement at all - only to be confronted with a razor coming towards the eye.

It’s shaving cream, covering the tattoo. It’s Gerry shaving and accidentally putting enough fear back into the ol’ Magnus eyes that he stops watching through those tattoos.
