meowdy everyone! your favorite and only mod here.
pride monthās coming up! iāll be reblogging pride posts here (what is pride but love?), so if you make any youād like to show off, always feel free to tag this blog or link it in the submit!
that being said. a few things i would like to ask of my followers here.
last year - and, really, since forever - lesbians have been excluded from pride posts, being lumped in with gay men. lesbians are not gay men - in fact, we have more in common with bi women than we ever will with gay men, and to rope us in with gay men is not only lesbophobic (we have our own identity! our own struggles! just because we are both āHomosexualā doesnāt mean we are the same thing!) but alienating to trans lesbians and gay trans men! please be considerate and include the L in your LGBT+ pride posts this year.
i urge you not to reblog posts that do not include the L as its own individual letter - yes, even if it includes your orientation that is otherwise excluded in other posts. we need to hold pride posts and pride as a whole to a higher standard than dropping the first letter in the acronym.
and the second thing - if you are making pride posts and pride art, please do not use the pink lipstick lesbian flag to represent all lesbians! not only was it created with the sole purpose of representing femme lesbians, the creator is biphobic, racist, and butchphobic (and thatās likely just the tip of the iceberg). there are plenty of other lesbian flags out there to use and, if you arenāt sure which one to use, while there is no one āofficialā lesbian flag (and i doubt there ever will be, F), i recommend
this one! it is easily recognizable, taking its stripe pattern from the original femme lesbian flag, but is not made only for femme lesbians and inclusive to other types of lesbians as well.
oh, and, obviously, trans exclusionary radical feminists are not welcome to pride, and frankly, should not even be welcome to living at all. please be sure to include trans lesbians and specify that trans lesbians (and trans wlw / trans people in general!) are welcome and celebrated in your pride posts as well.
and i know this post is starting to go on a little ways but if we could also be sure to remember he/him, they/them, and neopronoun lesbians do exist as well, and are just as welcome to pride and valid in their identities as everyone else.
if you do have any more questions about this topic, you can always ask off anon, and i will do my best to answer.
i look forward to celebrating pride with you all and please take what iāve said here to heart! i hope to see no more dropping or shuffling your lesbian sisters to the side, please. thank you!
