previous chapter // next chapter(coming soon)
Chan had informed the hospital that the pack would be on their way. So it wasn’t too shocking when seven wolves came barreling down the hospital corridors all thankfully wearing scent patches to mask their presumably sour scents. Jisung enters the hospital room first, immediately rushing towards your bedside looking down at you with watery eyes. The rest of the pack follows Changbin and Hyunjin, who go for Chan first, wanting to check up on their pack alpha, while it’s Jeongin who enters last, his body shaky, clearly on edge, as he holds a bag close to his chest, almost as a shield.
“Is that?” Hyunjin whispers looking down at Chan’s bloodied hands and sweater. Your blood. The precious liquid that keeps you alive every day has been spilled all over Chan’s hands.
“I had her in my lap. I had to apply pressure until the paramedics came.” Chan whispers now looking at his own hands with a pained look as various sounds of shock and horror fill the room.
“You should go home for a bit, clean up. Maybe take a nap? If they don’t know when she’ll wake up we can take turns being here yeah? For both your sake and hers.” Minho speaks up, his mind already thinking of you waking up and seeing your own blood on your alpha and the distress that could cause you.
“Ah, I guess you’re right…” He knows you’d want him to take care of himself too.
“I’ll go with you.” Jeongin blurts out, drawing attention to him, allowing Chan to notice how small the younger alpha looks, almost broken. He looks to Changbin for answers but the alpha just shakes his head. Chan knew Jeongin would be upset, but he looked like a shell of himself. The pack alpha nearly whines, eager to fix this entire mess for everyone, but he knows Jeongin will be a good place to start.
“Alright. Let’s go.” Chan huffs. Jeongin places your bag on a chair near your hospital bed before quietly walking past leaving you with a gentle squeeze to your hand. Anything more, and he’s sure he’d break.
The car ride to the pack house is silent, yet something heavy hangs over both alphas louder than any noise they could make. As Jeongin parks the car in the driveway he lets out a deep sigh.
“You get cleaned up and I’ll just wait here, okay?”
“No.” Chan nearly whispers, causing Jeongin’s eyes to widen.
“What? What do you mean no?”
“Come inside with me?” The crack in the older alpha’s voice makes Jeongin’s head snap, and he looks to see Chan sitting across from him with watery eyes. He looks so scared. Chan is rarely scared, or at least he doesn’t show it.
The younger alpha takes in a shaky breath before getting out of the car, if his alpha needs him to be strong he can do that. Right?
The walk to the upstairs bathroom is long, just long enough for Chan to walk past your room and catch the way your sweet scent rests in the air. Jeongin is right there to catch him when he nearly collapses.
“Hyung. Come on, let's go get cleaned up and then you can go back to the hospital and see her. I won’t even force you to nap like Minho wants.” Jeongin whispers as he holds the older wolf up, practically carrying him to the bathroom.
“Join me?” Chan isn’t stupid, he’s hurt and his mind feels hazy but he knows Jeongin needs him just as much as he needs Jeongin.
“Get in the shower.” The younger alpha scoffs before beginning to unbuckle his own jeans.
As the warm water rains over the two of them, Chan immediately works to wash off his hands, a slight pink tinge runs down the drain that the two refuse to look at, they can only look at each other. With only the phantom feeling of your blood left on Chan’s hands, he finally takes Jeongin into his arms, running a wet hand through his mate’s hair.
“Tell me.”
“Hyung what the hell are you talking about?” Jeongin tries to lie, he really does and for a split second, he thinks it’s believable but Chan gives him that look, and suddenly all his walls collapse.
“I lost myself, Hyung. I was so scared of losing her that I just let my alpha clog my mind and I hurt our mates. I yelled at Jisung… fuck I even yelled at Seungie.” Jeongin doesn’t remember starting to cry so it's a shock to him when his breathing becomes uneven and his body shakes. Chan looks down at his youngest alpha mate, one of his mates that he will just always consider his baby.
Jeongin’s presentation as an alpha was rough, late presentations always are. So many built-up hormones and a body and a mind not equipped to deal with any of it, this wasn’t the first time Jeongin’s alpha had clouded over his usual sweet nature, and it probably won’t be the last.
“I can’t stop thinking, what if I never get better? What if one day I hurt Y/N? What if one day I hurt our pup?” Chan is so tired of the feeling of his heart shattering, this heavy sticky feeling in his chest that almost suffocates him. How could he let this happen to his pack?
“Jeongin. Look at me.” Chan uses a shaky thumb to wipe away the tears even if it doesn’t matter because they are both soaking wet, he doesn’t want to see Jeongin’s tears anymore.
“Have I ever once given up on you?” The younger alpha looks confused.
“No. You’d never give up on any of us.”
“Because I believe in you, I believe you are a strong and caring alpha who would do anything for any of us without even so much as a grumble. You love with your entire heart, not a single one of us doubts your love for us. I could scold you right now, and I should, but I know the second you get the chance you will make it up to Jisung and Seungmin, because that’s the kind of alpha you are. An alpha that I am proud to have in my pack.” Chan gives Jeongin a wet kiss on his forehead, and both alphas are crying now.
“There’s going to be an investigation I’m sure. I didn’t get all the details yet, the cop let me wait for you guys but, this isn’t over. She’s going to need you, she’ll need all of us… and we’ll need each other.” The older alpha’s voice is barely above a whisper but it’s firm. Things won’t be easy, at least not for a while and they all had to be ready for whatever comes next.
“We’re gonna be okay.” Jeongin whispers to no one in particular. Chan isn’t sure if it’s a statement or a question or who it’s for but those words sit heavy on his heart anyway.
It’s been nearly three days since the incident. The doctors keep telling the pack to hold out hope, that nothing major was damaged and you’d wake up any moment now but anxiety has been running high. The pack members decided to take shifts, to prevent anyone from neglecting themselves or burning out.
Seungmin and Changbin agreed to take today’s short afternoon shift so Jeongin and Jisung could have the longer evening shift tonight, they were both absolutely miserable yesterday so it was decided that they could stay with you longer today to hopefully help ease their nerves, and maybe they could talk things out in the process.
“Hyung, I’m going to go grab some food. Do you want anything?” The beta whispers sweetly to the alpha sitting on the chair next to him. Changbin knows he should eat, he barely touched his breakfast this morning, but it’s hard. All Changbin can think about is you. He gives in nonetheless, he’ll behave for his beta.
“Surprise me puppy.” Seungmin rolls his eyes before leaving both you and Changbin with soft kisses.
Changbin always found peace in the quiet moments, especially with his pack. He loves to be loud and light up rooms keeping those he loves in high spirits but he always thought that the soft mushy moments where everyone can just relax and be themselves were special. He just hates that right now he can’t hear you. You look so peaceful lying in the hospital bed, maybe this is the best sleep you’ve gotten in a while, and you just want to keep resting, and Changbin can’t help but think he’s selfish for wanting you to wake up. He knows how scared you’ll be, how the cops will need to speak to you, that all this trauma you had finally started to heal from would get dug up and he hates that for you, but god does he want his mate awake.
The doctors have been encouraging the pack to talk to you and scent you, just to make sure you know they’re there for you but Changbin felt bad crowding you. The alpha was always so scared of crossing a line or scaring you that even now holding your hand felt like too much, especially since you couldn’t pull away even if you wanted to. He isn’t sure what overcomes him but right now sitting next to your bed isn’t enough, nothing has been enough to bring you back to them, so call it alpha instincts but he needs to do more. He needs you. His eyes glance towards the door expecting someone to come interrupt him but nobody comes. So with quiet movements the alpha gets up and walks towards your bed before he ever so gently crawls up onto the bed. Luckily you aren’t connected to too many things so it’s easy not to mess anything up or hurt you anymore than you already are, he’d be destroyed if he ever hurt you. The alpha gently wraps his arms around your middle, placing his head as softly as possible right above your bump, so close his lips graze it as he speaks.
“You know I love you both so much right?” He whispers not expecting an answer, he’d almost forgotten how well the pup responds when they talk to her so when a soft kick is felt against his arm he nearly loses it. A stray tear slides down his cheek landing onto your hospital gown.
The alpha lies there for what feels like forever, listening to your breathing and feeling the pup kick. Seungmin should be back soon and Changbin knows the beta wouldn’t care that he’s in the bed with you, he’s just not quite ready for that conversation. As the alpha begins to move in an attempt to get off the bed without jostling you too much, he feels it. A hand moves behind him. No, it can’t be. Your touch is feather light and weak as it moves up to his head, almost as if it’s dark and you can’t find him. Changbin isn’t sure he’s ever been this still in his life, he feels as if he moves you’ll go back to sleep and maybe you really won’t wake this time.
“B-Binnie?” Your voice is hoarse, like there are rocks in your throat, but Changbin has never heard a sound so beautiful before. The alpha moves at a snail's pace to sit up afraid everything would come tumbling down with one wrong move.
“Bunny, you’re awake! Shhh don’t move, just… just lie there for a second I’ll go get someone.” Changbin moves to get up again but your soft hand finally gets a grip on him.
“I-I’m okay. Pup? Pack?” Changbin gives you a thoughtful smile, of course, you’re thinking of them.
“The little princess is safe and sound inside of you, barely
any fuss at all from her. Seungmin went to get some food, Jisung and Jeongin should be on their way here soon actually, everyone else is at home.” He coos, still unable to process that you even woke up. You give Changbin a weak smile and he thinks he just about melts, his alpha howling at him to care for you.
“I’ll go get someone now so they can get you all checked out okay?” You nod softly as the alpha reluctantly gets off the bed and leaves the room.
Changbin had a sigh of relief when he was able to get one of the doctors who had already been taking care of you these past few days, it’s a sweet middle-aged lady, she’d been so kind to the pack throughout all this so he trusted her to be the first to check on you now that you were awake.
“Well hello there sunshine.”
Of course things can never be that simple and sweet. You aren’t sure what overcomes you but you can’t bring yourself to respond to the woman. You look like a deer caught in headlights as the doctor approaches you steadily putting her gloves on. She doesn’t seem phased by your lack of response, Changbin already informed her that you were speaking and aware, and as an omega herself she can imagine the emotions running through your body, but it’s the growl that causes her to take a step back. As soon as the doctor places a gentle hand on your arm to check on your IV, you let out a weak growl. Not menacing at all, but a warning nonetheless.
“Bunny, what’s wrong?” Changbin’s eyebrows furrow as he approaches your bed once again. You make eye contact with the alpha and it’s like you’re silently trying to communicate with him, the overwhelm clear in your eyes and the whimper that leaves your throat next.
“Y/N, sweetie we have to check on you and the pup yeah? The sooner we do this all the sooner we can get you home.” The doctor speaks again, her voice is as sweet as honey but something about it just triggers you.
“Alpha…” your whimper tears Changbin apart. He immediately takes your hand in his trying desperately to soothe whatever was happening in your head but it doesn’t work, tears start brimming in your eyes as you move to curl up on the bed, back facing the doctor who just wants to help. You know that, but a part of you can’t accept that fact. You can hear the two exchanging words but you can’t comprehend them. You think you can smell the doctor’s scent fading, maybe she left. Before you can dwell on what you’ve done the next thing you know you’re hit by the smell of warm cotton, like a fresh load of laundry straight from the dryer. Seungmin rushes to place the bags of food on a table before moving closer to you two.
“Why didn’t you call me? Did you call Chan? Anyone?” Seungmin’s voice is just as smooth as you remember it, it almost grounds you, almost.
“Actually I need you to call someone. She won’t let the doctor come near her… and I can’t even get her to relax.” Changbin’s voice has a pleading edge to it, something that says he's sorry but right now he can’t fix this and they need to get someone who can.
“You don’t think? After how he’s behaved?” The beta whispers.
“How many times has she been able to settle him? Their bond… It's special. I believe in him.” Seungmin’s eyes widen before he nods, if there’s anyone who can settle you right now it’s him.
Seungmin leaves to make the important phone call before coming back into the hospital room. The beta slowly and calmly stalks over to your bed, his soothing scent getting stronger and stronger.
“Alpha.” You whimper again subconsciously at this point.
“I know, I know, this must be so scary for you puppy.” He runs a soft hand over your arm, trying to use a mix of touch and beta pheromones to settle you, at least until a certain someone gets here.
Fifteen minutes. It takes fifteen minutes for Jeongin, Jisung, and Chan to come rushing through the door to your hospital room. The smells hit you first, the sweet chocolate, the salty ocean, the earthy rain, some of your favorite scents in the world here just for you.
The three wolves freeze as soon as their eyes land on you, curled up in the hospital bed, but awake. You woke up for them, you fought and you won just like you always had. Chan looks between your form and Seungmin and Changbin standing next to your bed, silent words are exchanged through these looks before he gently squeezes Jeongin’s arm, a subtle nudge to the baby alpha.
Jeongin shakes his head, there’s no time to be shocked or scared, you need him. The alpha follows a snail’s pace as he walks over to your bed, his hand moves to hover over you, he’s afraid that if he touches you you’ll break, he never wants to see you broken again.
“Princess,” he whispers and your head immediately turns to look up at him as you whimper.
“Oh princess it’s okay, I’m here, we’re here! Nobody can ever hurt you again. I won't allow it.” Now the alpha is the one crying as he leans over your hospital bed, everything in him screaming at him to just pick you up and take you home where he can hold you in the den away from stray hands and unforgiving eyes. He can’t though. He knows that, but it doesn’t hurt him any less.
“What does my princess need? How can Alpha make this easier for you?” Jeongin’s heart aches when you look up at him with big wet eyes.
“Stay,” you whisper and all of the wolves exchange looks, Chan slips out of the room silently.
“Of course, I won’t leave your side unless you ask me to! That goes for any of us okay? If I stay right here will you let the doctor check on you? We just wanna get you home Princess.” The alpha’s smile is just as sweet as it always is as he looks down at you, he watches the gears turn as you consult your inner omega on what to do.
“Okay.” You hum just in time for Chan to come back with the same sweet doctor from before.
“I think we’re ready to try again, yeah? Let’s get you sitting up.” The doctor’s voice is calm and easy on your ears, you’re more receptive this time as she walks up to your bed pressing a button to elevate the bed as Jeongin helps you gently sit up.
“I’m Doctor Choi, I’ve been taking care of you for most of your stay these past few days. I’d like to do some small tests just to make sure everything is as it should be, okay? I will walk you through every step.” The doctor’s smile is warm, it reminds you of what you’d always dreamed your mother’s smile would be like. Your mother… that’s why you’re here. You look towards Jeongin who gives you a reassuring nod, one that says you can trust this doctor. You nod.
“Alright, are you in any pain?”
“My throat, dry.” You whisper.
“Is she allowed to have water?” Jeongin’s voice is soft but you can hear the edge to it.
“That happens when you haven’t talked in a few days, of course you can have some water.” Seungmin was already gripping his bottle of water ready to hand it off to you as soon as the doctor said you could have it. Jeongin helps you take small sips from the water bottle, his hand soft under your chin as you allow the cool liquid to soothe your aching throat.
“Anything else?”
“My neck…” You can smell how your packmates’ scents sour for a moment before they reel them in, but Jisung’s remains spoiled for longer than you’d like.
“That’s understandable, you needed quite a few stitches. But with help from your mates, you should heal quickly. Now, I’m going to need to touch you to test your reflexes and make sure there was no nerve damage. It won’t take long, I promise.” The doctor moves to the end of the bed and runs a soft gloved hand down your leg to your toes causing you to flinch. Jeongin immediately places a firm hand on your cheek ever so gently, pulling your face towards him and away from the doctor.
“I’m right here princess, just focus on me.” The alpha releases more of his calming pheromones to help settle you.
“That’s good, it means you can feel your legs.” The doctor laughs softly but you just huff. You want to go home.
“With that said, do you think you’d be up to trying to walk? If you can pass that, I don’t see any reason to keep you here past tomorrow unless something else comes up.” You can’t lie, you’re scared not because you think you can’t walk right now but what if you can’t? You look at your packmates and you see the hopeful smiles on their faces, you can’t disappoint them, not anymore.
“Don’t push yourself baby, if you want to try you can try but only do what you think you can manage. There’s no rush.” It’s Chan who speaks up, he believes in you but he doesn’t want to overwhelm you, not right now.
“I want to try.” You nod towards the doctor and she smiles.
“I can help you or you can have one of your mates help you and I’ll supervise and watch for any complications.” Your eyes drift towards your pack alpha and his eyes widen.
“Chan. I want Chan to help me.”
You expect Jeongin’s scent to sour but you swear it almost deepens a bit, a clear sign of him feeling pleased with the situation. The younger alpha helps you sit up more on the bed so you can move your legs to the side as Chan walks over to that side. Under the watchful eye of Doctor Choi, Chan places both hands on your waist allowing you to wrap your arms around his neck.
“Be careful, okay? Like I said before, there's no rush, I’d wait forever for you.” Chan’s smile widens as he helps you stand up off the bed. You want to take a step but you freeze for a moment. Three days in bed doesn’t seem that long, you were sure this would be as if nothing had even happened but your legs already feel a little buttery. A proactive sense of disappointment creeps up in your chest, causing your scent to sour.
“Take your time, or we can stop. Whatever you need.” He coos and you shake your head.
“No. Just need a second.” You whisper into his chest. After a few moments of heavy silence, you take your first step and with the assistance of Chan, whom you’ve now loosened your grip on, you take a few more.
“That’s good! Do you think you can take some on your own? You can try walking to Mr. Seo over there.” Your heart does a flip hearing this doctor who is a complete stranger to you seem so proud of you just taking some steps. You look up at Chan and then towards Changbin who is maybe six feet away from you, you can do that right? You nod softly signaling for Chan to let you go as you take the first hesitant step on your own. It takes you a couple of steps to find your footing but you walk over to Changbin with no issue, your legs already feeling much more stable. The alpha immediately pulls you into his embrace.
“Oh, that’s my big strong girl!” He cheers as he places a soft kiss on your forehead. The alpha follows closely behind you as you walk back to where Chan is waiting to help you back up into the bed.
“You really exceeded my expectations, great job! So we’ll keep you overnight for monitoring just to be completely safe and if everything remains the same you should be good to go home before tomorrow evening. Obviously you’ll need to be mindful and get some rest, especially while your stitches heal, but we can discuss that before discharge time.” Doctor Choi smiles one more time before leaving you alone with your pack again.
“God, I’m so proud of you.” Jeongin gives you a sweet kiss as he coos at you.
As you all sit in the hospital room allowing the wolves to smother you in their scents and affections seemingly ignoring the elephant in the room you can’t help but notice a lingering tension that doesn’t feel all that related to what happened to you. You can’t bring yourself to ruin their moods after they waited days for you to wake up but you're hyper aware of how little Jisung and Jeongin are interacting with each other. Neither of them seems to be in a bad mood but there’s definitely something there.
As the day turns closer to evening Chan gathers up Seungmin and Changbin telling them to say their goodbyes, allowing Jeongin and Jisung to keep their original post for the night shift with you tonight. This only leaves you more confused but you don’t question Chan, or any of them for that matter, at least not yet. A soft whimper leaves your chest as it’s Chan’s turn to say goodnight to you. The alpha leans over your bed holding you close to his chest, you’re not ready to say goodbye to him but you also aren’t ready to confront what happened at that mall, so maybe it’s for the best.
“Don’t be like that baby, Ji and Innie are gonna take such good care of you. I’m going to make sure everything at home is ready for you and then I’ll come get you tomorrow.” You pout up at the alpha.
“You really think I’ll get to go home tomorrow?”
“You’re my strong girl, of course you will.” He smiles giving you your last two kisses, one to your lips and one to your bump before he gives the other two their kisses as well and leaves the hospital room hopefully for the last time without you.
Jeongin makes sure you’re settled before he shuts off the light, allowing the soft moonlight from the large hospital window to dimly light the room so you can rest in peace. The alpha notices Jisung hovering near your bed so he makes himself comfortable in the chair on the other side of the room watching you two carefully.
“You know I heard a rumor that omega cuddles are the best medicine.” You give Jisung a playful side eye as you scoot yourself closer to the middle of the bed so he can crawl in next to you. The omega lets out a breathy, almost awkward laugh before his eyes dart towards Jeongin. The two lock eyes before Jisung’s scent sours again.
“Okay, what could have possibly happened while I was knocked out? My neck is what’s hurt, not my brain. I know something is up.” You frown seeing both your mates refusing to look at you.
“You shouldn’t worry about any of this right now, you need to rest.” Jisung speaks up as he walks towards your bed ready to push this aside for tonight and help you feel better instead. Jeongin seems to wrestle with his thoughts for a moment before he stands up.
“I hurt our mates.” the alpha blurts out, the air suddenly feels so much heavier. Your mind races thinking what he means by that.
“Jeongin!” Jisung gasps. On the car ride here Chan made the two of them promise to behave around you and not give away that something was up. You shouldn't have to worry about this right now.
“No. I royally messed up and I need to apologize to you all, so I’ll start here with you and our Luna.” Jeongin grips the edge of your bed as he lowers himself into a submissive bow over your bed.
“I love every member of this pack in ways that make me feel insane. Ever since I presented as an alpha I’ve felt like my wolf is trying to claw its way out of my body. I trust Chan and the other alphas to protect our pack but I can’t shake this intense urge to protect you all. When Changbin brought you into the house that night I actually wasn’t asleep in my room. I was awake waiting for everyone else to go to sleep so I could keep guard of the house.” Both Jisung and you share wide-eyed looks at his confession and the alpha cringes.
“Yes, I did that every night. I had to… I had to keep my pack safe. I was aware of every smell, every noise, every change in emotion no matter how small. So when you entered our home I smelled you immediately, I almost ran downstairs and scooped you up into my arms but I smelled your scent getting closer, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, you were staying. I slept like a baby that night.” Tears brimmed in his eyes.
“I think subconsciously my wolf was waiting for you. We all knew we had another mate but my instincts were so intense the waiting was causing me pain.”
“Why didn’t you tell us any of that? We could have helped you.” Jisung’s voice holds a twinge of pain. The omega feels so deeply, the idea of his youngest packmate suffering like that makes him forget why he was even mad in the first place.
“I wanted to prove to you all that I’m a strong and capable alpha. I had to be that for you. I didn’t need you guys to worry about me.”
“Strong alphas communicate with their pack. That’s what Chan does.” Jisung whispers, his pain over the situation seeping into his words.
“Jeongin what did you do?” The look you give the alpha makes his stomach flip. He thinks maybe he should have just stayed quiet, because what if he’s truly ruined everything?
“I yelled at Seungmin and Jisung.” he swallows the lump in his throat. “No. I screamed at them, I got in their face. I was nasty. Chan hadn’t called us to tell us what happened but we could feel you both through the bond. Knowing something was wrong but not knowing what threw me off completely. Losing my mate is my worst fear, that goes for any of you guys. But faced with that possibility staring me in the face I acted out of line. I let them down when they needed me most.” Tears freely fall from Jeongin’s fox-like eyes now. Your face falls. You can’t imagine Jeongin doing such a thing doesn’t even sound right in your mind. That’s just not like him at all. You know he struggles with his instincts, but it usually manifests in ways against others, not his own pack. You think for a moment maybe this is a prank but the look on Jisung’s face tells you it’s all too real.
“Jeongin… I just can’t believe you’d do that.” You can’t help the protective wave that rises in your chest. Before anything, you’re an omega. You adore Jeongin, but hurting your omega and beta won’t be tolerated.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry it makes me sick. If you want me exiled from the pack that would be your right to do so, I deserve it.”
“If we kick you out, who will eat all of Minho’s leftovers we don’t want?” Your heads snap towards the door to find Seungmin standing in the doorway with red eyes he had clearly wiped away tears from.
“Seungmin?” you whisper in confusion, you thought he had left with Chan and Changbin.
“Chan forgot to bring up the fresh blanket the pack scented for you, so I offered to run it up real quick. I didn’t expect that I was being left out of the greatest pack apology to date.” he huffs teasingly but it’s clear he’s emotional over this. Someone from outside of their pack wouldn’t consider Seungmin to be someone who gets emotional or feels things deeply as say, Jisung does. He's playful, a bit of a menace at times but there’s nothing on this earth he cares about the way he cares about his pack. He’s the perfect beta, calm and collected while also deeply in tune with his emotions and the emotions of his beloved packmates.
“Hyung, I'm so sorry.” Jeongin’s voice is pitiful, you can almost hear everyone’s hearts breaking hearing their alpha plead like this.
“I forgive you.” Seungmin says as if it is obvious. Sure he was hurt by Jeongin, but he cared more about getting to the bottom of why he behaved that way. Jeongin may be a big alpha now but that will always be his pup.
“No. I have to earn that. I hurt you!”
“And you will. When you give up some of your Y/N time to me while you do my chores for the next week.” There’s your Seungmin. Devilishly handsome, and just plain devilish when he feels like it. Jeongin’s eyes widen, he’s in awe not only by how much he’s lucked out with his mates but by how sly Kim Seungmin is.
“Whatever you want, it’s yours. Both of you.”
“I guess I could forgive you too if you spare me some of your Y/N time as well. I need cuddles from my Luna.” Jisung lets out a sniffly giggle that makes your heart flip.
“I will personally see to it that you both get maximum cuddles when I get home.” You giggle softly as you feel the pack bond settle as their emotions become less intense.
The thought of what’s to come gnaws at you like an annoying little bug in your head but for now, your pack is all that matters. This is what you’ve chosen for yourself. It’s all yours and nobody can take that from you.

I genuinely don’t even know what you put into Waiting After Rain, but whatever it is, it has me completely hooked. I have reread it at least ten times, and somehow it still hits just as hard every single time. I notice new little details, new emotions, and it just keeps pulling me back in like I am experiencing it for the first time all over again.
I have never loved something this much in my life, and I am not even exaggerating. The way you write, the way you build emotion, the way everything flows so perfectly, it is honestly incredible. You have such a gift for storytelling and it really shows in every single part of it.
You are seriously such an amazing writer, and I mean that with my whole heart. Kudos to you, boo, because wow… you absolutely nailed it.

Waiting After The Rain Masterlist
Getting the omegas to eat anything during their heats was Seungmin’s biggest fight. The alphas will eat them out of house and home during the peak of their ruts, but even in preheat, all the omegas want to do is play or sleep. So Seungmin being the good beta he is, puts himself in charge of making sure they eat and stay hydrated, a role he’s rarely had an issue with until now. Jeongin has always been a really good eater, especially during his ruts, so Seungmin feels a little lost when, this time around, the youngest alpha is consistently turning down food. Two days into his rut and he’s barely eaten anything Seungmin tries to feed him, it’s honestly starting to piss him off.
“Hyunjin’s going to come back down here with dinner and you better eat it you little brat.” As usual, Seungmin’s tough love is meant just as that, lovingly. He hates seeing Jeongin so down more than anything and if this is what he has to do to get him to take care of himself, or even let anyone take care of him so be it! He and Jeongin came into this pack as a pair, Seungmin taking care of the younger long before he has presented and bloomed into the young alpha he is now, so his care for him is never-ending, because that’s what you do when you love someone as much as Seungmin loves Jeongin. The alpha has remained super attentive to his pack mates just like he would any other cycle, he gives in to the omegas’ whines and whims, and he even happily bottoms for Minho, which Seungmin is happy to see, not wanting their other mates to suffer due to Jeongin’s sour mood but he could seemingly give less of a damn about his own needs and wants Other than his deeply rooted need for you of course, and that worries the beta to no end.
So when Hyunjin descends the stairs down into the den Jeongin immediately perks up, your milky scent coming off of the beta in waves.
“Y/N? You saw Y/N? Did she look okay? Did she ask about us?” The beta can’t help but cringe at the way Jeongin sits in front of him like an eager little puppy, but he loves the alpha so he’ll look past it for now.
“She’s exactly how you left her two days ago pabo! She actually made us dinner and sent me down here with some extra gifts.” The beta smirks as he waves the bag of scented clothes in Jeongin’s face. Just as the alpha goes to snatch the bag of clothes, Seungmin pulls him back by the collar of his shirt. Now that you have given Seungmin the perfect bartering tools, he’ll have to thank you once this is all over.
“Don’t even think about it. You don’t get any treats until you eat. I’m sure your omega made this food with just as much love as she scented the clothes with, so sit down and eat.”
The pack rarely refers to the omegas as anyone’s omega, at least not seriously, because they all share and love equally, the hierarchy and ownership that lots of packs have never sat right with them, but in situations like during playful moments or during ruts, especially with Jeongin’s more primal nature, hearing an omega referred to as their own is exactly what their alpha needs to relax. They all see the way Jeongin perks up at the idea of eating the food you took the time to make, it’s the most interested he’s been in food in days, of course he wants your scent but he’s not upset at the prospect of eating the food you prepared for him. Minho can’t help but snicker at how deep down the youngest alpha just wanted you to be the one to take care of him. Seungmin thinks for a moment, maybe they should have left Jeongin up there instead of Chan… No. The pack alpha is the most level-headed during his ruts, far more than Jeongin can be. You’re safest with him, no matter how much the younger one will cry about it.
“Don’t tease.” Changbin slaps Minho’s arm rougher than he meant to, but at least he’s getting his point across. Don’t mess with the baby alpha right now.
Once Jeongin finishes his food, Seungmin carefully distributes the clothes you sent down for the pack not wanting to deal with any fighting over the scented fabrics. The youngest alpha holds your hoodie up to his nose and inhales so deeply that some may be unsure if he’d breathe normally again. He takes a moment to smell every note, the sweet but tangy cherry that has made him never be able to see the fruit the same again, the warm vanilla complimenting the creamy milk brought on by your pregnant state. Goddess, he misses you both so much. He feels his nerves start to ease as your scent takes over his body, his alpha now content knowing both you and the pup are upstairs, safe and sound.
Just when everything starts to settle just in time for their next waves to start creeping up soon a loud gasp comes from Jisung as he clutches his chest. The others look confused for just a second before they soon follow suit. A stunned silence settles over the room for a moment before a growl rips from Jeongin’s chest.
“He fucking claimed her,” Jeongin’s growl is deep and heavy, almost loud enough to shake the walls of their soundproof basement. The alpha drops your hoodie from his grasp as he exits the nest ready to charge upstairs and rip his hyung’s teeth out himself for ever daring to bring them near your throat like this. Seungmin is wobbly on his feet, still in shock and reeling from the feelings of someone joining their bond, but he has to be strong. The beta grabs his younger mate with a low warning growl, gripping his jaw to make sure he’s looking at him.
“Calm down.” Jeongin goes to snap at the beta but his grip tightens, keeping his mouth shut. Seungmin uses his free hand to point towards the alpha’s chest.
“Do you feel her? I know you feel it, you know she’s fine.” Jeongin’s eyes soften as he focuses in on your branch of the bond, he feels you, you’re clearly a little frazzled but content, happy even. You wanted this, he can’t deny that. But he can’t ignore the pit of jealousy that settles in his belly.
“But- He- She can’t-“ Jeongin stutters out as Seungmin lets his fresh cotton scent wash over him. Everyone in the room is impressed at how well he pushes away the burnt scent that should mask his calming scent, they know Seungmin, they know he’s furious right now, his scent should be sour and not at all helpful to the current environment. But as he always does, Seungmin is putting his mates first, before his own emotions, before his own desire to tear into his pack alpha.
“Look at them. They need you. Be a good alpha for your pack okay? I will take care of Chan.” Seungmin’s grip on Jeongin’s jaw loosens as he turns his head, forcing him to look at the two shaking omegas in the nest, the others desperately trying to comfort them even though they also feel a million emotions over this. His eyes meet Jisung’s, the omega isn’t screaming or crying as they’d all expect from him, no he’s just staring off into space as Minho rubs soothing circles on his back trying desperately to prevent a sub drop. Felix on the other hand is almost as combative as Jeongin was a few moments ago.
“How could he do this to us? To her? He didn’t even talk to us! We’re a pack! I didn’t even know pregnant omegas could be mated! What if something goes wrong?” Felix’s voice is even deeper than it usually is, soaked with the fiery anger he feels.
“Don’t even think like that.” Changbin lets out a low growl.
“Guys! Both she and the pup are okay. Seungmin’s going to go check on her right now, right Minnie?” Hyunjin runs his slender hand through his hair in frustration, his eyes pleading with his fellow beta to help him fix this mess their hyung has caused.
“Of course. I got it.” Seungmin sighs letting Jeongin go so he can rush upstairs, he wonders how they even got here. How hard is it to simply follow the plan?

previous chapter // next chapter
Chan’s never been in the back of an ambulance.
When Minho sliced his finger and needed stitches Chan was able to drive him to the hospital himself. When Jeongin fell and dislocated his shoulder Chan popped it back into place. While of course, Chan cries every time his mates get hurt. Still, the difference between all their bruises and sniffles and his first ambulance ride today is that he got to listen to his packmates groan about how much he’s smothering them, softly verbalize about how they are okay and he doesn’t need to worry. You’re silent. Even your scent has softened; he knows it’s a protective instinct, thanks to your omega, but god, does he hate it. Everything is too quiet.
It’s a stark contrast to the hospital. It’s all so loud. Too many questions for Chan’s liking.
“You’re her mate?” Is it not obvious? He’s inseparable from you, he’s bawling his eyes out, would a stranger act like this?
“Yes. Pack alpha. We have a pack bond, seven other mates.” He needs to call them.
“How far along is she?”
“Shouldn’t that be in her virtual chart?” Of course, he’s feeling agitated, but they just want to help. He knows he has to keep it together, these nurses are betas and omegas, they probably experience so many agitated alphas who scream and abuse them when they’re just trying to do their job, and he’s not like that. A deep sigh leaves his lips. “I’m sorry, she’s twenty-eight weeks.” The nurse nods respectfully, she understands, or at least Chan hopes she does.
“Don’t worry, we have her chart and we have someone in contact with Dr. Kim as well. Your omega is in good hands Mr. Bahng. Now, was it an omega or an alpha that attacked her?” The question causes the alpha to tense up, because he actually doesn’t know for sure. He has no idea who this person was who attacked you or why they did it.
“They smelled vaguely of omega, lavender scent but powerful. I’m sorry a lot of it’s blurry.” He frowns wishing once again he could be of more help.
“It’s okay, just want to make sure we have that information so we know what we can give her and how to proceed.” The nurse smiles softly before joining the other nurses working on your case at the moment sharing the details she now knows with them. Of course, as soon as Chan reaches for his phone a police officer enters your hospital room. Chan isn’t sure he’s ever stood up so fast in his life, words spilling out of his mouth faster than he can even think.
“Look, sir, I had no choice but to tackle that woman. She was going to kill my omega, I had to stop her! Please don’t take me away from her and my pup!” Fresh tears are streaming down his face and his hands begin to shake. He hadn’t even thought about the consequences but now he’s looking them right in the eye. The pack isn’t even here. He hasn’t called them. If they take him away, you’d have no one. He can’t leave you alone, you hate being alone. The officer reaches out to hold Chan’s shoulder but in his panicked state, the alpha assumes he’s about to be arrested so he flinches.
“Relax Mr. Bahng. Nobody is taking you away from anyone, I was going to ask if you wanted to talk in a private room but I assume you’d feel more comfortable here, yes?” Chan’s eyes widen as he nods vigorously.
“Alright, well we spoke with the staff and reviewed the security footage. Mrs. Park has been put under arrest following her discharge from the hospital. You’re not in any trouble, but we’d like you to give a statement.”
“Mrs. Park? Is that the woman who attacked Y/N? Who is that? Why would she hurt her?” A million thoughts run through his head.
“Sir, Mrs. Park is Y/N’s biological mother.” Suddenly, the hospital room feels so small, suffocated by the now-saltier ocean scent, like a beach on its stormiest day.
“I need to call my pack.” He blurts out, he can’t think right now, only pack.
“Alright, we can pick this up after you’ve settled.” The officer nods briefly before exiting the room. Chan knows his pack, they are understanding, they are kinder to him than he’ll ever think he deserves, but they love you. How could he as pack alpha tell his pack that you got hurt on his watch?
Just as Chan assumes, the pack is in shambles.
Hyunjin wasn’t even home when he felt a bone-shattering pain spread through his chest.
He’s at the dance studio helping Minho clean up after a class when his knees suddenly feel like jello. It takes him a moment to focus on the bond, his breath caught in his throat. The second he realizes it’s you his head spins as his knees give up on him. He falls to the floor with a groan of Minho’s name. The alpha comes running from the front office of the dance studio immediately pulling the beta into his arms.
“I know, I know. Come on get up, we gotta get back to the house!” If Hyunjin wasn’t so panicked he’d notice the tears welling up in the alpha’s eyes.
Minho is the king of safety in the pack, he mother hens like no other, so he hopes Hyunjin doesn’t remember how fast he’s driving today. Minho speeds down the streets towards their home as Hyunjin fumbles with his phone in the passenger seat.
“Neither of them is picking up! What happened? They went to the fucking mall what could have happened?”
“Jinnie please. Please just breathe.” The alpha pleads, seeing his mate so upset is only making it harder to focus.
“How can I breathe? What if Y/N-“ Minho cuts him off refusing to allow that thought to finish.
“Don’t. Don’t you dare say that. We can still feel both of them
in the bond, I’m sure all three of them are okay. Chan wouldn’t let anything happen to them.” Hyunjin slumps back into the passenger seat returning his attention to your contact in his phone.
The scene at the house is even more devastating. Hyunjin jumps out of the car as soon as Minho parks, rushing inside only to find both omegas sitting on the kitchen floor inconsolable no matter how hard Changbin had been trying. Hyunjin and Minho join them all on the floor, all of them now trying to get in contact with their mates.
Their heads snap towards the door in unison, the whole house suddenly smelling of mud fresh after a massive rainstorm. The way Jeongin slams the door behind him and Seungmin causes everyone to flinch, but he’s too lost in his emotions to notice. Without a word, the alpha reaches the pack in the kitchen scooping Felix up into his arms. Nobody protests, knowing this is the best reaction the youngest alpha could have right now, he’s self-soothing, using the omega’s pheromones as a sedative to take even a fraction of the edge off. The kitchen is a mix of sour scents and worried tapping on cellphones, but nobody says a word until Changbin finally peeks up from his phone.
“Their locations updated! But, they’re at the hospital?” The alpha’s words are phrased more like a question. A deep sense of dread covers the pack like a blanket. A million questions running through their heads. Yet none of them misses the way Jeongin’s eyes darken.
“Hospital? Let’s go then! What are we waiting for?” The younger alpha barks, as if it’s an order. But it’s not an order his pack is all that willing to follow at the moment. They need to keep a level head, they can’t just rush into a hospital with no information and cause a scene, they’d all get kicked out and then they’d really have to wait to see their mates. Trusting Chan has never failed them, so they are willing to wait.
“I think it’s best we wait for one of them to contact us first.” Seungmin always had to be the voice of reason, even in times like this. Jeongin looks around at his mates, his eyes begging and pleading for one of them to disagree, someone to be ready to run with him to that hospital and make sure their mates are okay but they all just look at him with this solemn look, which makes Jeongin sick. The alpha places Felix back in his original spot with Jisung before getting up to meet them all at eye level.
“Wait? You want to fucking wait around while our Pack Alpha and our Luna are clearly suffering? What kind of mate are you?” A loud growl rips from Jeongin’s chest as he gets closer to the beta now, his anger focusing itself on him for even suggesting such an idea. Two things are true, Seungmin has thick skin and he loves his mates more than anything on this planet. So for now he’ll ignore the fresh tears that run down his flushed cheeks, instead, he tries his best to push out his calming beta pheromones, desperate to calm the alpha. It always worked, even long before Jeongin had presented as an alpha. Seungmin's scent always soothed him. So why wasn’t it working now? The beta remembers him and Jeongin joining this pack, a stubborn beta and his unpresented pup. What happened to his pup?
“Yang Jeongin, you don’t speak to our mates like that!” Minho scowls. It’s always been an understanding that if for any reason Chan isn’t around Minho is in charge. Jeongin barely flinches at the older alpha’s words but flinches none the less, he’s yelling at his Minnie hyung, he’s scaring his pack. But this pain is unbearable, he can’t stand doing nothing about it. The younger alpha tries to find his voice but the sound of a phone ringing rattles in his brain.
“It’s Chan,” Jisung says, looking down at his cellphone as if it were a bomb. The bomb isn’t the phone though, the bomb manifests in the form of a twenty-five-year-old alpha still dealing with the inner turmoil of his late presentation.
“Jisung what are you doing answer the fucking phone!” Jeongin growls before he's swiftly pushed to the ground by the back of his neck by Minho. He loves Jeongin just as much as he loves all his mates, but he doesn’t care who you are, if you disrespect his omegas he’ll tear you apart with his own teeth. Luckily for Jeongin Minho does love him, so a rough scruffing will suffice.
“Don’t you dare speak to our omega like that,” Minho growls louder than the younger alpha making sure he and his wolf get the point before he lays Jeongin’s now more relaxed form onto the ground.
With that settled Jisung picks up the phone.
“Chan, please tell me you have answers.” Jisung’s voice trembles through the phone and Chan thinks he might just die right there.
“I’m so sorry I kept you all waiting and worried. Am I on speaker baby?” It’s a stupid question, of course, he is. His pack wouldn't be able to wait any longer even if just long enough for Jisung to retain and relay the information. They’ve waited long enough.
“Of course! What happened? Are they okay?” Chan takes a deep breath before he has to drop the ball on his pack.
“Y/N… she was attacked at the antique shop.” The alpha can hear a chorus of gasps over the phone, he wants nothing more than to be there to comfort his mates.
“What do you mean? By who? Is she okay?” He can feel the panic rising from Jisung’s side of the bond, it only makes him feel sicker.
“Breathe baby. Both Y/N and the pup are okay. Y/N hasn’t woken up yet but the doctors are still looking her over. As of right now they don’t think anything major was damaged and she’ll just need stitches.”
The sound of seven lungs deflating fills the room. The burden sitting over them was heavy but knowing you’re alive and possibly on the road to recovery, now it resembles more of a boulder than the entire earth’s weight.
“You said she hasn’t woken up, do they know when she will? Should we head over there?” It’s phrased as a question but it’s more of a warning, telling Chan they will come see their omega, they just need to know how soon.
“They won’t be able to say for sure without getting all the test results back but they think her body might just be in shock, she’ll wake up, she’s strong. If you guys are going to come, could you pack a bag for her? A change of clothes, some toiletries, a comfort item, nothing crazy. Just want to make sure she’s got everything for when she’s ready to go home or in the worst-case scenario she has to stay a bit after waking up.” Jisung can hear the solemn smile that rests on his pack alpha’s lips
“Yeah, of course! We’ll tell you when we’re on our way, just call if you need anything okay? I love you Channie Hyung.” Chan can feel the tears rising once again, but he pushes them
down. He has to be strong for his pack.
“I love you too Hannie.”
A deep silence falls over the kitchen only broken by the sound of the youngest alpha getting up, still a little groggy on his feet from the scruffing. He doesn’t say a word, simply makes his way upstairs. Minho opens his mouth to scold him, to tell him they aren’t done here but a tender hand rests on his chest stopping the words from spilling.
“Let him be for now. I’ll talk to him.” Hyunjin's voice is smooth, calming, everything a beta needs to be in a time like this. Nobody objects to the beta’s course of action, allowing him to follow their youngest alpha upstairs.
Your room usually smells so heavily, like a sweet cherry milk Hyunjin could drink forever. Right now your smell still lingers of course but the scent of a nasty rainstorm fills the space, it’s so strong that Hyunjin flinches once it hits his nose.
“Not now Hyung, I’ll apologize to Jisung and Seungmin later. I need to get a bag ready for Y/N, I just can’t find that shirt she likes.” Jeongin doesn’t look at Hyunjin when he talks, his words feel distant, cold, not his Jeongin.
“Innie, relax for a second.” The beta tries to break through to him but the alpha is far more focused on digging through the drawers of your dresser, determined to find that t-shirt you told him you love so much.
“I gotta find this shirt, she’ll want to be comfy when she’s able to go home. It’s her favorite shirt hyung, I got it for her! She told me the seams don’t irritate the skin on her stomach like other shirts do. I can’t find this shirt, I can’t fucking do anything can I? I couldn’t even keep her safe!”
Jeongin is kind. Jeongin is protective. Jeongin is the pack’s baby. Sometimes it feels like Jeongin has more love than he could ever fit in his body, he’s the perfect alpha made of smiles, muscles, and love. The entire pack has seen Jeongin cry over everything from spilling soju all over Chan’s favorite jacket to the night he broke down after you showed up. Hyunjin had seen him cry countless times, he’s a sensitive soul as much as he tries to hide behind his alpha. The way he crumbles in front of Hyunjin right now is different. It’s pitiful. It makes Hyunjin feel sick. The beta takes careful steps towards his younger mate who’s now almost hunched over on himself in agony, a devastating mess of tears and loud heavy sobs.
“Yeni… It’s okay. There’s nothing you could have done.”
“I should have been there! I could have stopped the attack! I could have saved her!” Jeongin’s voice shatters with every word, his full body trembles wrack his body. Hyunjin’s strides are careful before he pulls the broken alpha into his arms.
“Shhh, it’s okay. I’ve got you.” The beta coos as he brings the two of them down to sit on the floor. He sways back and forth with the alpha in his arms, his precious baby.
“Hyung, I’m a horrible alpha, I hurt Seungmin and Jisung, I couldn’t save Y/N! What can I do?” Hyunjin’s eyes widened at his younger mate’s words.
“That’s not true Innie and you know it. Everyone adores you, yes you do need to apologize to everyone downstairs but they’re still our understanding mates, they know how strong your instincts are, they will forgive you”
“I didn’t want to yell at them, I just feel so much pain and anger and nothing is within my control! I feel like I’m going feral. I lost even more control and yelled at my mates, I made Seungmin cry, he probably hates me now. It’s not fair, Hyung. They didn’t deserve that, fuck she doesn’t deserve this! We promised her safety and we failed her!” The youngest alpha sobs and whimpers in Hyunjin’s arms. The older wolf isn’t sure what to say, and at this point, he isn’t sure if anything he could say would even help.
The two sit together on your bedroom floor for a while, the only sound moving through the tension-filled air is the sound of Jeongin’s whimpers and sniffles. Call him a hypocrite but Hyunjin wishes he could just fix everything. He hates seeing his mates like this. If anyone has failed the pack he’s sure it’s him.
“Is she gonna be okay?” Jeongin’s whimpers can barely be heard through the muffle of Hyunjin’s chest but he hears him loud and clear. He wishes he had the answer, the kind of optimism that glues everything back together again, but Hyunjin has never been one to lie to his mates especially not when it comes to serious situations like this.
“Our omega is a fighter. I can only hope she’d fight just as hard to stay with us.”
Hyunjin knows he should be a good beta, that he should be convincing his mate to stay positive through this, but convincing himself might be his hardest battle yet.
