part of the fun of the original alien is the horror of the nostromo itself imo. it’s a cell of corporate greed ferrying narrowly-trained workers across barren space. it’s huge and yet claustrophobic, cockpits crammed with machinery giving way to yawning berths dripping chains and water. the supercomputer is named mother in a stroke of human anthropomorphization, but instead of providing comfort or protection, it’s only a courier between its creator and its wailing brood. ripley yells “mother! mother!” at a matronly-voiced computer that speaks calmly over her helplessness. the ship is full of endless details and patterns and unlabeled buttons and dials the audience can’t entirely make sense of; to do anything on the ship is a rigorous, technical process, and we must depend on the characters to know it. the internal mechanics of the ship are so alien that a literal alien can hide among the bits and bobs and not be noticed. it’s great.
Heiko Hellwig: ‘Silicon Cities’ (2017)
“There’s something going on here.” He looked over to her. Shoko was gazing at the horizon with weary eyes and her expression was stoic as she held her cigarette close to her lips.
Geto Suguru takes a job at an isolated Arctic research station to study a newly discovered virus and support the effort to find a cure. As he tries to uncover the truths about the facility and the project, he and his colleagues become entangled in a net of lies and secrets until it's too late to go back.
This is a moodboard for "Undercurrents" by ToxicAppls, a JJK satosugu fic I highly recommend if you like sci-fi and slow burn mystery.

“Is it possible to fall in love with someone by the traces they leave behind, based on what remains when they are long gone? More than a year after the peaceful revolution, Detective Reed goes missing. Three months after his disappearance, the case is reassigned and Connor is tasked with investigating, slowly but steadily starting to feel closer to a man who only ever antagonized him and whom he might never see again.”
A moodboard for @unacceptable-bisexual/unacceptable_bisexual’s amazing “Traces” “Traces” is so well paced and written, if anyone wants a good (very) slow burn reed800/mystery fic I recommend it!!!
Betty Cooper: Winter (3/4) hot chocolate, soft mittens, pine trees, and glassy, deceptive ice reflecting blue
Polly Cooper “ a prude by day but a freak in the sheets at night ” “ grew up too fast ” I prefer the version of Polly that existed before she actually made an appearance, the absent girl veiled in rumors and pastels and nostalgia. Stolen away by mistakes and rebellion and her search for something different, something more than a small town crossed by lines cutting it into ever-smaller pieces. This version of Polly runs away, not with Jason Blossom or anyone else, but by herself. She goes to a co-ed college and kisses and drinks and wakes up in bed with so many pretty, interesting people. She makes mistakes, but she makes friends too, and when her period comes late, they buy her pregnancy tests and goldfish crackers and hot chocolate and pile into the cramped two-bed dorm with her. The tests come back negative and they hold her as she cries, caught for a moment in the ghost of the life she’s escaped. Lets out a breath she’s been holding for longer than she knows. Betty comes to visit sometimes, she and her friends, sometimes just her. Her parents don’t visit. She graduates, finds that she can do just fine on her own without the Cooper name. She never goes back.

Veronica Lodge: Autumn (2/4) leaves turn the same brilliant amber in riverdale as they did in new york, it’s a small comfort as everything gets colder
