Un été à Konoha
Fandom : Boruto
Relationship : Boruto x Sarada

« Sarutooooo ! Réveille-toi ! Maman a dit qu’on allait à la rivière aujourd’hui ! S’exclama joyeusement le petit garçon. »
Saruto s’assit, encore à moitié endormi.
« On va vraiment à la rivière ?
Ayumi rougit.
-T’as toujours faim ! »
Ayumi sourit timidement.
« Rends-moi mon bandeau ! Cria Saruto.
-Attrape-moi si tu peux ! Répondit Souta. »
Boruto éclata de rire.
« On devrait les aider ?
-Non, dit Sarada. Ils apprennent le travail d’équipe.
-Tu crois ?
-Non. Mais c’est divertissant. »
******
Simple. Paisible.
-On devrait en faire plus souvent.
-On devrait, confirma-t-elle. »
Saruto, derrière eux, murmura :
« J’aime bien quand on est tous ensemble. »
Ayumi hocha la tête.
« Moi aussi. »
Boruto sourit.
« Alors on recommencera. »
-Tu n’as rien fait, répondit Sarada.
-Superviser, c’est fatigant. »
Elle secoua la tête, amusée.
« Merci quand même. »
Boruto la regarda, surpris.
« Pour quoi ?
-Pour aujourd’hui. Pour eux. Pour nous. »

******
Saruto, twelve years old, was the first to wake up. Not out of discipline or duty. Simply because Souta, his six‑year‑old little brother, had just jumped on him like a miniature tiger.
“Sarutooooo! Wake up! Mom said we’re going to the river today !” The little boy exclaimed joyfully.
Saruto groaned and pulled his pillow over his head. It was the first time since becoming a Genin that he had no mission, and all he wanted was to sleep in.
“It’s… too early… Let me sleep.”
“It’s eight o’clock,” Ayumi said from the doorway, arms crossed.
At twelve, she already had the posture of a team captain.
“And Mom said that if you’re not ready in twenty minutes, she’ll drag you outside by your hair.”
Saruto shot upright.
“She’d never do that.”
Ayumi raised an eyebrow. Souta nodded with dramatic seriousness.
“She already did it to Dad,” he said.
Saruto paled. Yes, an angry Sarada could scare anyone. He jumped out of bed and got ready. Ayumi and Souta left the room laughing.
******
The kitchen was already lively. Sarada was preparing onigiri, hair tied back, looking focused. Boruto, meanwhile, was trying to intimidate the kettle into working with a murderous stare.
“Dad, why are you looking at the kettle like you want to kill it ?” Ayumi asked.
“It started it,” Boruto replied, dead serious.
Sarada sighed.
“You could just fix it instead of threatening it.”
“It’s a matter of principle.”
Saruto sat down, still half asleep.
“Are we really going to the river ?”
“Yes,” Sarada replied. “And you’re watching Souta while I help Ayumi train.”
“What ? Why me ?”
“Because you’re the oldest,” Sarada said.
“And because you’re the only one who can stop him from drowning,” Boruto added.
Souta raised his arms proudly.
“I’m super strong now ! I can swim like a shark !”
“You sink like a rock,” Ayumi corrected.
“That’s not true !” Souta protested.
Boruto burst out laughing. Sarada tried to stay serious, but a smile slipped out.
******
The path to the river was lined with trees, the air filled with the scent of sun‑warmed resin. Souta ran ahead, chasing imaginary butterflies. Ayumi walked beside Sarada, discussing strategy, techniques, ambitions. Saruto lagged behind, carrying the heaviest bag.
Boruto watched his family with a peaceful smile.
“You know,” he said to Sarada, “we could leave them with my parents and go on a mission, just the two of us.”
“Tempting,” she replied. “But your mother would spoil them rotten, and your father would teach them nonsense.”
“True,” Boruto admitted.
Saruto, who had overheard, chimed in :
“Grandpa Naruto told me he used to paint on the Hokage faces.”
“See ?” Sarada said. “That’s exactly what I want to avoid.”
After several minutes of walking, they arrived. The river shimmered under the sun, cool and clear. Souta jumped in before Sarada could protest.
“Souta ! Not without supervision !”
“I’m a ninja shaaark !”
He barely hit the water before he started sinking. Saruto dove in immediately, grabbed him by the collar, and pulled him back up.
“Stop sinking, seriously.”
“I’m training !”
Ayumi settled on a rock, ready to train with Sarada.
“What do we start with ?”
“Chakra control. You lose focus too easily.”
“I do not !”
“You just yelled your answer.”
Ayumi blushed. Meanwhile, Boruto spread out a towel, lay down, and declared :
“I’m supervising.”
Sarada shot him a dark look.
“You’ll supervise by helping Saruto watch Souta.”
“I was just about to do that,” Boruto lied.
Ayumi closed her eyes, focused her chakra in her feet, tried to walk on the water… and immediately fell in.
“Again,” Sarada said calmly.
Ayumi resurfaced, soaked, hair plastered to her face.
“I hate water.”
“You hate losing,” Sarada corrected.
Ayumi clenched her fists and closed her eyes again.
“Come on ! One more time,” Sarada repeated.
Saruto, floating nearby, watched his sister.
“You should relax. You’re too tense.”
“Mind Souta !” Ayumi snapped.
“I am minding Souta,” Saruto replied, grabbing his little brother who was drifting toward the current.
Boruto laughed.
“You’re all incredible.”
Sarada smiled despite herself.
“They get that from you.”
“And a little from you too,” Boruto replied.
******
At noon, they gathered on the bank. Sarada took out the onigiri. Souta grabbed three at once.
“Hey !” Saruto protested. “Leave some for the rest of us !”
“I’m hungry !”
“You’re always hungry! ”
Ayumi ate quietly, watching the water.
“Mom… do you think I could become a team captain someday ?”
Sarada looked at her, surprised by the question.
“If you keep working the way you do, yes. But you need to learn to listen to others.”
Ayumi lowered her eyes.
“I know.”
Boruto placed a hand on her head.
“You’re already amazing. But don’t forget you’re still a kid. You’re allowed to have fun.”
Ayumi smiled shyly. Souta, mouth full, added :
“I’m gonna be the greatest ninja ever !”
Saruto rolled his eyes.
“Of course you are.”
“And you, Saruto ?” Boruto asked, already knowing the answer.
A huge smile lit up Saruto’s face. Determination sparkled in his eyes.
“I’ll be Hokage !”
Sarada felt her heart tighten with pride. She pulled her son into her arms.
“Mom, stop ! You’re crushing me !”
******
After lunch, the heat became overwhelming. Sarada sat in the shade of a tree, watching her children play. Boruto joined her.
“What are you thinking about ?”
“Them. Us. Everything we’ve built.”
“Do you regret it ?”
She shook her head.
“Never.”
Boruto smiled and leaned his head against hers.
“Me neither.”
A shout interrupted them.
“Souta ! Come back here !”
Saruto was chasing his little brother, who had stolen his forehead protector and was running away laughing. Ayumi tried to stop them with training shuriken, deliberately missing.
“Give me back my headband !” Saruto yelled.
“Catch me if you can !” Souta replied.
Boruto burst out laughing.
“Should we help them ?”
“No,” Sarada said. “They’re learning teamwork.”
“You think so ?”
“No. But it’s entertaining.”
******
When the sun began to set, the family packed up. Souta was already asleep on Saruto’s shoulder, exhausted. Ayumi walked silently, but her eyes shone with renewed determination. Boruto carried the bag, Sarada held the towels.
“It was a good day,” Boruto said.
“Yes,” Sarada replied. “Simple. Peaceful.”
“We should do this more often.”
“We should,” she agreed.
Saruto murmured behind them :
“I like it when we’re all together.”
Ayumi nodded.
“Me too.”
Boruto smiled.
“Then we’ll do it again.”
Back home, the house was cool, bathed in the orange glow of evening. Saruto laid Souta in his bed. Ayumi went to shower. Boruto stretched.
“I’m exhausted.”
“You didn’t do anything,” Sarada replied.
“Supervising is tiring.”
She shook her head, amused.
“Thanks anyway.”
Boruto looked at her, surprised.
“For what ?”
“For today. For them. For us.”
He stepped closer and cupped her cheek. No matter how many years passed, they loved each other like the first day.
Later, when everyone was asleep, Sarada walked past the children’s rooms. Saruto was sleeping deeply, one leg hanging off the bed. Ayumi was still reading, though her eyes were closing. Souta snored softly.
Boruto joined her.
“They’re growing fast.”
“Too fast.”
Boruto wrapped an arm around her. She rested her head on his shoulder. And in the gentle warmth of summer, the house fell asleep, peaceful, carried by the simple love of a family who, despite missions, responsibilities, and challenges, always found time to be together.

« Non, ça me plaît. Beaucoup. Merci. »
Elle rougit et détourna le regard. Yuki sourit.

It was not love at first sight. Not something sudden, blazing, where you understand your feelings in a single second. Nothing spectacular, nothing romantic like in the stories people tell.
For Yuki and Machi, it was those small moments, almost invisible to others, that mattered. Those silent instants, those tiny gestures, those glances that lasted only a fraction of a second. All the things that would have seemed insignificant to anyone else but were, for them, already the beginning of something deeper.
It was in the way their hands brushed by accident. In the way their voices changed slightly when they spoke to each other. In those silences that were not uncomfortable.
They did not yet know how to put words to it. They did not even really know what they were feeling. But something was being born, gently, almost shyly. And without realizing it, those little nothings became the foundation of a feeling that was anything but small.

Machi’s arms were full of various folders she had to bring to the Student Council. Kimi had to stay in her classroom because she was on cleaning duty, and she had asked Machi to take her folders along with her own. Machi had not dared refuse. Kimi could be very insistent when she wanted to, and it always made Machi uncomfortable.
So it was easier to accept, even if she felt like the whole pile of folders would collapse with every step, forcing her to walk like a tightrope walker on an invisible wire.
She thought her ordeal was over when she reached the Student Council door. She stretched out her arm as best she could, holding the folders in one hand. She jumped when the door suddenly opened. The folders slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor with a sharp sound.
“Machi !” Yuki exclaimed. “Are you alright ?”
She muttered a barely audible “yes” and crouched down to pick up the folders.
“I’ll help you.”
Yuki crouched immediately and helped her. He handed her the last folder, and their fingers brushed. It was only a light touch, but Machi’s eyes widened and she blushed. She lowered her head so her hair would hide her red cheeks. Why was she reacting like that ?
She stood up quickly, thanked Yuki, and entered the room. Yuki watched her go, then lowered his eyes to his hand. Why had that simple touch unsettled him ?

Machi was sitting alone in the Student Council room. She had arrived too early for the meeting, and the other members were not there yet. Everything was so quiet. It was a real contrast to how it usually was when everyone was gathered. Especially when Kakeru and Kimi were there. Even Yuki talked more in those moments, sometimes even losing his composure.
Sometimes, Machi envied him for being able to express himself so freely. For a moment, she could see him becoming himself. He let go of the “prince” mask everyone imagined.
Machi glanced around the room. Everything was perfectly tidy. Not a single sheet sticking out of a binder. Not a single chair out of line. She felt her heart speed up and her breathing grow uneven. She felt unwell, both physically and mentally. She needed to calm down before the others arrived.
They would not understand why she acted like this. No one understood why a room that was too perfect put her in such a state. Not even Kakeru, her own brother.
She closed her eyes to calm herself. She heard the door open, followed by footsteps. Someone had entered. It was even worse. Her anxiety seemed to multiply.
She opened her eyes again. On the desk in front of her, the papers were now slightly out of order. On the board, a chalk line crossed the surface. Those small things quieted her anxiety.
“Good morning, Machi.”
She turned her attention to Yuki. He was smiling at her as if nothing had happened. He had deliberately created a bit of disorder in the room. Nothing that would bother the others, but enough to help her immensely.
Machi lowered her head and allowed herself a small smile.
He understood. And that simple little gesture made her happy.

Yuki looked at the various items in front of him. He was with Kakeru in a shop, helping him choose a gift for his girlfriend. He did not know how Kakeru had done it, but he had managed to convince him to come along.
He did not feel comfortable in this kind of place. There were so many choices that he did not know where to look.
Aside from Tohru, he had never given a gift to anyone. He had never been close to his family members, and before her, he had had no friends. He glanced at Kakeru who, as usual, was drawing attention by acting like an idiot. He grabbed anything he could find and called out :
“Yun‑yun ! What do you think of this ?”
“And this, Yun‑yun ?”
“Hey Yun‑yun ! Look !”
Everyone was staring at them, and Yuki wished he could disappear. He tried to pretend Kakeru did not exist and focused on the items. His attention fell on a bookmark. It was not anything special, but he wondered what Machi would think of it.
“I’m sure she’d love it.”
Yuki jumped. He had not noticed Kakeru approaching.
“What are you talking about ?”
“Machi. You were thinking about her.”
Yuki blushed to the tips of his ears. He stammered, pretending he had not been thinking about Machi, which made Kakeru burst out laughing.
“If you say so. But that’s exactly the kind of little thing she’d like.”
He went back to rummaging through the shelves. Yuki looked at the bookmark, took a deep breath, and headed for the register.
The next day, heart pounding, Yuki offered the bookmark to Machi. She stayed silent for a few seconds, staring at the object. Yuki’s heart beat even faster. He didn’t know that was possible.
“If you don’t like it, I can return it.”
Machi’s eyes widened. She shook her head quickly and held the bookmark against her chest.
“No, I like it. A lot. Thank you.”
She blushed and looked away. Yuki smiled. He was happy. Much more than when he had given Tohru her ribbons. This was different. And he liked that feeling.

It was not love at first sight. Nothing sudden, nothing blazing. And yet, in that moment, Machi understood that all those small moments had led her here.
The Student Council meeting had just ended. The other members had left chatting, leaving behind a slight mess. A few misplaced papers, a chair moved, a pen forgotten on the desk. Nothing shocking. Just enough for Machi to breathe normally.
She remained seated, hands on her knees. She had not noticed that Yuki hadn’t left.
“Machi ?”
She looked up. He was standing near the door, hesitant. As if he was not sure he had the right to stay.
“Are… are you okay ?”
She nodded. She wanted to answer more clearly, but the words would not come. With Yuki, it was always like that. She wanted to speak, but her body betrayed her. Yet he never seemed to mind.
He approached slowly, as if not to frighten her. Machi felt something inside her loosen.
“I wanted to tell you something,” Yuki murmured.
He stopped a step away from her. His hands were trembling slightly. Machi noticed, and her heart tightened. He was nervous. For her.
“For a while now… I’ve been feeling… different, when I’m with you.”
He looked away, as if afraid to meet her eyes.
“I don’t really know what it is. I’m not very good at understanding these things. But… when I see you, I feel like… everything becomes a little easier.”
Machi felt her cheeks warm. She lowered her head, but this time, it was not to hide. It was to hold back the tears threatening to rise.
Yuki took a deep breath.
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable. I just wanted you to know.”
He took a step back, ready to leave. As if he thought he had already said too much. Machi reached out her hand. A tiny gesture. Almost invisible. But Yuki stopped immediately. She gently grasped the fabric of his sleeve. Not to hold him back by force. Just to say : stay.
She finally lifted her eyes. Her lips trembled, but she managed to whisper :
“Me too… I feel… like that.”
Yuki’s eyes widened. He had not expected an answer. Even less a direct one, coming from her.
He sat beside her, slowly, as if the slightest movement could break something precious. Silence settled. But it was not an empty silence. It was a silence that said everything they could not put into words.
Their hands brushed. Not by accident this time. A light, hesitant, but intentional touch. Machi felt her heart race, but it wasn not unpleasant. Yuki felt his chest tighten, but in a soft, almost soothing way.
It was not love at first sight. It was better than that.
It was two people who, without noise, without fanfare, had finally found each other.
