Yeah I would have loved to see that…I feel like I didn’t love Will in any of his couples like, they never put him with the right person if that makes sense?
Completely agree! Sylvie was as sweet as she was scrappy and tough when she had to be. She would have been a complement to Will's personality. I'm surprised they never explored that option since they always greeted each other in the ER when the occasion arose.
What sort of woman does Will need; personality, strengths, weaknesses, traits etc.
Fantastic question! And right in my wheelhouse.
Will would flourish in a relationship with a woman who would allow him to take the lead in the relationship and not challenge him on everything. His relationship history if fraught with women who need to be the boss. But that's not the woman Will needs.
Will's ideal woman has a gentle, sweet nature. She's no wallflower, however, and will tell Will where the boundaries are, which he respects. She's confident in herself and in her relationship with Will but isn't bossy or mean. Disagreements are inevitable in any relationship, but she and Will never resort to childish loud arguments. Together, they learned better ways to cope with stress.
Will does not want a woman who will "challenge" him and confront him. He gets quite enough of that bullshit at work. He wants to come home to peace and harmony. He loves it when she has a hot delicious meal prepared for him when he comes home from a tough shift. Just her gentle presence and calm demeanor would get him to open up to her about a particularly difficult case that didn't break his way. She doesn't badger him to tell her. She knows him well enough to give him time to process the horrors of the day.
She would celebrate his wins and share his sadness at the losses, which are inevitable in his line of work.
Will would thrive in such a relationship. Plus, he's a devout family man and little ginger babies would complete him!
Sylvie is not a bossy, dominant personality so she would do very well with Will Halstead. They would complement each other's strengths and weaknesses.
Also, while they both work in the medical field and understand the unique language of medicine, the key is they don't work together occupying the same space . All the difference.
They're both sweet-natured, easy-going people who would bring out the best in each other.

Will's got a patient whose a teenage girl who doesn't want anymore treatment for her cancer and he's talking court orders against the mother for negligence because they're giving her herbal tea instead of forcing her to have chemo.
Don't do this, Will. We've been down this road before, remember Jennifer Baker? The reasons for the malpractice suit and insurance premiums and poverty??????
Let's not do this again. Yes it's very sad a girl doesn't want to live, but she doesn't want to suffer the side effects of chemo on the slim chance it leads to clinging on just long enough for a cure. Let the girl die in peace!
Yes, I remember that installment. So many potentially interesting directions for Will to have taken that storyline. But, no. Instead, we get these same useless, repetitive storylines with no character development in sight.
Now you understand why Nick Gehlfuss left as soon as his contract was over.
God Almighty. I cringe just thinking of it. I can't express in human language how utterly revolting that scene was watching Will pining for the drug addict doctor, who had utter contempt for him, by the way. As did everyone else.
Will Halstead was ultimately Med's toilet. People just lined up, pulled down their pants, and shit all over him.
No wonder it took Nick Gehlfuss almost 3 years to find acting work again. It took that long to finally rid himself of that pathetic character he was forced to portray.
How funny I spent half an hour looking up antibiotics that are given to people who are allergic to the common ones, and then the episode I've just watched, a patient was allergic to the common ones.
Also on another note, Will's (Nick Gehlfuss's) smile when the patient is treated through the allergic reaction 😍
I remember that one. That was such a rare win for Will. Prime example of innovative, outside the box problem solving.
Then Goodwin has to stride into the treatment room with that patented scowl she reserves only for Will Halstead. He's been summoned to the "principal's office" again for a scolding like none other.
She then proceeds to rip him to pieces for protocol violations. No mention of his actions saving his patient. Just another excuse to deride him.
I know!! That pissed me off so much. What did she want him to do!? It was either do that, with science behind his reasoning, or let the infection travel and the patient loses her leg or worse, dies. He did what he could with the tools he had at the time and that's still the wrong thing to do.
And I'm sure similar has been done before by another doctor and they got applauded for it.
Will could cure cancer at this point and she'd probably still find fault.
Unfortunately, Will taught Goodwin and everyone else in the ER back in Season 1 that it was appropriate to react to him this way.
Following the Jennifer Baker debacle, Will was offered an Attending position in the ER. Of course, now that he's an Attending he needs to find his own malpractice insurance, but he couldn't find any insurance carrier that would take him on because of the lawsuit. Goodwin offered to help find him a carrier. He was so grateful for this "second chance" that he tracked down Goodwin and thanked her.
She then looked him square in the eye and said the following, "Don't thank me. I'm still waiting to see how long it will take before you get fired from here."
That's a verbatim quote. She said those very words to his face.
Now, any doctor with a modicum of self-respect would have said "You know what? On second thought, no thank you, Ms. Goodwin. Gaffney Medical Center isn't where I belong."
How dare she accuse Will of being the one who got the drugs off the drug dealer. She KNOWS Vanessa has brought drugs before, so whose risking whose job here!?
Oh yes - Season 8 was when the writers went full bore DEFCON 1 on Will Halstead. All of his emotional scaffolding was dismantled, piece-by-piece. What little support he had disappeared. Every ally he ever cultivated had turned on him.
I can't imagine a scenario where Will Halstead's return serves any purpose beyond a Hail Mary ratings boost.
Regardless of the circumstances, it's not a good look on an actor to come crawling back to the show that burned his acting career so badly he was unable to find work after his departure.
I don’t support Natalie or Torrey, she’s pro Israel and anti Palestine and I cannot support anyone who is
I don’t actively pay attention to what Torrey Devitto does so I didn’t know she was a zionist (and I did check her insta to confirm) but that’s deeply disturbing, especially given her “activism” stance on women’s rights (though I haven’t seen any support of trans women in her posts, just cis women but I won’t make any speculation on that).
Marina is obviously a zionist as well so I’m kind of glad that I’m no longer watching the one chicago franchise. I mean, I would guess that Dick Wolf isn’t as incredibly liberal as he presents his franchises to be anyway just based on some of the SVU and One Chicago storylines.
Anyway…Torrey was an okay actor but I won’t ever watch anything she does again. As for her character in Chicago Med, I don’t really feel one way or the other about Natalie, aside from the time she murdered a disabled person. I didn’t like her and Will together but I’m really not like a diehard Will stan honestly…he did resuscitate someone with a DNR and like both instances (him and Nat) are doctors removing autonomy from patients because they assume they know better. Also the amount of episodes I can think of where either one of them used the phrase “quality of life” negatively when talking about a disabled person pissed me off.
Torrey’s so called activism always came across performative and fake imo. You can’t be an activist yet not stand up to genocide and transphobia - she’s also a white woman who has never struggled once in her life, never not been considered or seen as less either.
Nick is apparently quite progressive, but his non famous non actress wife keeps inserting herself into whatever he does with other actors which makes it come across as fake.
I feel like there were some good crossover potential relationships that they never bothered exploring and Sylvie/Will was definitely top of the list for me! I think they would have been a great dynamic!!!
I think both Jay and Will are similar but they went through different experiences in life while also going through the same experiences in different ways too, and that their personalities are actually quite alike yet different and they have similar interests, likes, values etc. and have a close bond. I don’t think either would get along otherwise, and I think like how people underestimate or undermine Sylvie do the same with Will sadly.
Yeah I definitely think Will and Jay have similarities and differences that reflect their personalities and he way they were raised. Honestly I don’t know if it’s because Nick and Jesse are such great actors but I do think that they really feel like brothers. Like how you watch something and you’re like ‘siblings would never be like that with each other’, I never felt that watching them.
I do think people underestimated Will a lot and I think focused on his shortcomings more than his compassion/empathy.
Sylvie surprising Will after their shifts with some new lingerie? Just finished the episode with her in it, and Will would be absolutely floored 😏
Flexing my Will x Sylvie writing skills, hopefully this is something lol!!

Midnight Surprise - Will Halstead x Sylvie Brett
Summary: What the ask said...Sylvie surprising Will with lingerie. Featuring a pep-talk by Violet.
A/N: First time writing Will Halstead and first time writing Will x Sylvie. I also still think I like Brettstead as a ship name the best. As always, banners by @saradika

"Maybe...maybe this isn't a good idea," Sylvie mused, chancing another look in the mirror. She was wearing a thin mesh matching set: longline bralette and dolphin hotshorts with a ruffled edges, and applacay flowers (that left little to the imagination) in dark green. She didn't have much opportunity for lingerie between her schedule and Will's, half the time she was lucky if she even saw him at night, but she had off for the next two days and he was home at midnight and she had decided to throw caution to the wind and dress up. Or dress down...as a nice surprise.
"It's a great idea!" Violet's voice came through the speaker on Sylvie's phone, far more enthusiastic than her blonde counterpart.
"Well I thought it was a great idea but I almost just flashed the door dash guy," she replied. Sylvie had pulled one of Will's flannels on at the last moment, hand on the door knob when she remembered that she was literally hanging around her apartment in her underwear. The flannel woould have worked even better as a cover-up if she'd remembered to button it all the way but instead she was pretty sure that the door dash driver had gotten a fairly decent look at her chest before she grabbed the food and slammed the door in his face, "plus I was gonna tip him cash and I totally forgot."
"Oh, trust me, you tipped him enough," Violet laughed as Sylvie finished explaining exactly what had happened.
"I just wanted it to be perfect," she groaned, tapping her phone screen to check the time. Ten minutes, give or take. "Will comes in, I'm drapped over the couch..." She trailed off, looking around the small apartment, "or should I be in the bedroom. No, that seems weird. That's like, oh come find me...in our apartment...that has two rooms."
"I think you're overthinking this whole situtation. Like, all you need to do is answer the door when you know Will is there, like as he's getting his keys to unlock the door, and then bam! Rip off the flannel. He's gonna have a heart attack. Literally, you will be performing CPR in the hallway!"
"Okay, I don't think that's the result I'm going for," Sylvie laughed, "if he wants to toss me over his shoulder and throw me down in bed..."
"Can he?" Violet asked, "like pick you up and toss you over his shoulder?"
"Oh yeah," Sylvie nodded even though Violet couldn't see her, her voice trailing off at the end as the very specific instance of Will doing just that popped into her head. Their first night in the apartment after moving in. Which was also probably the last time their days off had overlapped so perfectly.
"Okay, bring it back down to earth Sylvie," Violet laughed. "What time does he get home?"
Just as she asked Sylvie heard footsteps outside her apartment door and the distinct sound of Will's key in the lock. She grabbed her phone from where she'd left it laying on the arm of the couch, "he's here, bye!" She whisper-shouted, ending the call and tossing the phone. She glanced in the mirror for a split second, fixing her hair, before positioning herself in front of the door. So much for draping herself over the couch.
Sylvie had mentioned going to Molly's tonight with Violet as a cover, knowing that Will was working late and wouldn't think anything of it, giving her time to plan the surprise. From the takeout that had arrived fifteen minutes ago (from Will's favorite place) to the dark green lingerIe set she was wearing. It had also given her time to have a minor panic attack and call Violet for reassurance that she was definitely, totally, doing something that Will would like.
Finally, in what she felt like was hours later but was only a couple seconds, the lock clicked, door knob turning and Will came in. Looking down at his phone.
Sylvie waited a beat, not want to scare him by just blurting out a hello, watching him drop his phone on the entry table and leave his backpack and shoes on the ground there too. He dropped his keys next to his phone and then finally looked up, jumping back slightly when he realized Sylvie was home and not at Molly's.
"Shit!" Will exclaimed, putting his hand over his heart, "I thought you were out with Violet?"
"I'm surprising you," Sylvie replied, gesturing to her outfit.
"Yeah, yes, scared me half to death," Will pointed out. "Did you eat already?" He started to make his way into the kitchen, "I don't think I've eaten anything since lunch and that was...seven hours ago?"
"Will!" Sylvie groaned, following after him. Violet was wrong, he wasn't going to have a heart attack at the sight of her, he was going to be still on Med-brain and not even realize that she was standing in front of him in her underwear. She might as well have been naked, he would probably still be rummaging through the fridge. "There's take out, I put it in the oven to keep warm."
"Oh my god, amazing," he turned away from the fridge, letting the door swing shut and going straight for the pizza in the oven.
"Will!" Sylvie tried again to get his attention.
"Yeah?" He asked, not turning around as he pulled the pizza out.
"Will."
"What?"
"Turn around!" She insisted.
He turned, pizza box still in hand, "wha-"
"I'm surprising you," Sylvie repeated, dropping the flannel.
Will's eyes went wide and he tossed the pizza box behind him onto the stove, "I'll say," his whole face lit up in a smile at the sight of her, Sylvie smiling back excitedly as he closed the distance between them to finally kiss her hello.
