right after my friend and i got out of iron lung the first thing we wanted to talk about was the nature of the moon, and the creatures on the moon that simon was on.

my friend really likes biology and when i brought up that the blood on the moon was oxygenated blood (really really red, also the oxygen levels go up when the blood enters the sub), the first thought she had was that the moon itself was likely some kind of organism/ superorganism that incorporated the humans that went down there into it.

she talked about how, similar to insects, the moon reminded her of an open circulatory system (the gravity of the moon acting as the bugs exoskeleton) but ALSO a closed circulatory system (the tunnels acting as veins and arteries).

thats when i kind of thought, based on that if continue the line of thought that the blood moon is a circulatory system, that the fish/monster creatures are a bit like white blood cells since they target and purge the "viruses" that are down there, aka the subs that get sent down

so you have this moon, which is actually a living creature. and you have the people that are being sent down, into this LIVING THING, getting destroyed because they pose a threat to the "immune system" of the moon.
