This picture was taken at Sequiota Park in Springfield, MO. This hole in the side of the cliff is either a sewer drain put there by people or it is a “sea cave.” It’s not quite a sea cave because it’s not near the ocean, but it is similar. Sea caves are formed when the waves crash against cliff sides. This mechanical erosion wear away at the rocks on the cliff. Then cavities are continually pounded against by the water. This picture was taken at Lions Lake Park in Washington, MO. The outside of this rock is almost completely covered in moss. Moss is usually confined to areas that are damp. The area that I took this picture in is an area that is a small wooded area near a park. There are many dips in this small woods and there are water in the dips. This picture was taken as Lost Hills Park in Springfield, MO. There is another fallen tree here and other vegetation that has gotten between the rocky areas. It is non-moving water, which doesn’t make the rocks in it weathered. The rocks in non-moving water tend to get covered in pond-scum, which tends to get mistaken for algae. There is also moss growing on these rocks. They are both near water and in a shady place. This picture was taken at Elephant Rocks in Belleview, MO. These rocks are made of pink granite. They were formed 1.5 billion years ago by molten rock cooling. This means that they are igneous rocks. They were then weathered away and cut at, even today. They also have symbiotic creatures on them called lichens. This and the plants around these rocks aids in the weathering process. This picture was taken at Sequiota Park in Springfield, MO. The rocks here are most likely bedrock. It takes up a majority of this area and is very easy to walk on. Near where this structure is, there is a large rock structure that people often climb on (shown below the first picture). You can see that this structure is built upon the rock on the ground. This is what makes me believe that the ground rocks are bedrock. The rock formation that people climb on also has moss and plants growing on it. There also seems to be a missing section of the structure, but it still stands oddly. These photos were taken at Sequiota Park in Springfield, MO. These rocks here have also been weathered by the sediments in the water moving water. It also seems that these rock formations have been weathered in such a way that it seems to give them little crevices within. The current water level shows that the tops of these rocks are smooth as well. Since weathered rock tend to be smoother, it can be implied that this river/creek often changes it’s water level.

Since there is so much moss on this wall, you can assume that it is in a place where it gets water regularly or near a body a water. This rock wall is near a lake and a creek area. This formation is at Sequiota Park her in Springfield, MO. This a rocky outcropping that is overlooking a small waterfall. Since this is a park, it is possible that they were placed like this by people. They also seem to be built into the cliff side, so it is also possibly natural. An interesting feature about this outcropping is that it is pretty jagged. But if you happen to look a bit to the left, you see that the rocks have a bit of moss on them and are smoother. Water weathers rock sediments that have been taken from other rocks. The sediments run over the other rocks, weathering them and making them smoother. By comparing the two pictures, you can see how much the sediments in the water have weathered down the rocks.
