I was tagged by @anheiressofasoldier! I got a little carried away though and just decided to post the last blurb of dialogue I’d written for the Royalty AU I’ve been working on and off on (more off lately but I do want to go back to it still). It’s the one where, after several years of separation, Sora and Kairi meet again at a masquerade ball, and Kairi’s a princess. Enjoy!

“Kairi, w-what?” Sora sputtered. She turned to look at him, and his eyes were wide.

“I told you. Once I’m queen, I’m changing the law. It won’t matter. Nothing will stop us from being together.” She resumed their march to her parents.

“That’s not what I meant,” he said, tugging back. “You can’t just—”

“Oh yes I can. We’re engaged, got it?”

“But I didn’t even propose!”

“Well, I just did. Who says we have to do things the old-fashioned way?”

He stopped again, and that forced her to stop, too. “Kairi, I just got back. Don’t you think this is a little fast? You don’t even know where I’ve been or what I’ve been doing—”

“None of that matters. All I care about is that you’re here.”

Max understood the need for secrecy, but crawling through the castle sewers late at night was overkill. They spent the entire day trying to figure out what had happened in the courtyard. The castle staff only saw the crown symbol glowing on the walls. For such a friendly open place, Disney Castle was becoming more and more secretive.

“Web, everyone is asleep. We could go through the hallways,” he complained.

Webby rolled her eyes at him. “Everyone but your dad and the court. King Mickey just returned from his travels. With. Guests!“ She emphasized each word with a jab at his chest. The armor did not deflect the pain.

He rubbed at the sore spot. She was strong for such a small wizard. “How did you find that out?”

“Not the point, Max! Onward!” With only the small light at the end of her staff, they continued onward.
