He had hoped that Liam had just assumed that he meant he didn’t understand from his wording, though as the other hovered over him, he realised that wasn’t the case. “I-” he swallowed hard, cheeks darkening as he did his best to find the words. “Not exactly, not all the way…. I didn’t realise it was such a big deal,” he muttered, gaze dropping immediately after the fact.

the blushing was quite cute, liam had to admit. he was simply shocked to hear anybody in their profession as heroes lacked lovers that would simply do away with something so trivial. “my apologies, partner. you’re right, it ain’t a big deal,” liam assured him, feeling slightly bad for asking in the first place. “if i wasn’t such a damn slut, i’d have waited after marriage,” he added, hoping humor would alleviate some of the tension.

"Oh no I... I didn't mean it like that, I just..." If he wasn't flustered before, he definitely was now. Cheeks still a dark red, he moved to run his hand over his face, trying to calm himself and focus on what he wanted to say. "I... it's not that things haven't happened... I just haven't really ever.. done it, y'know? And I'm sure you're not a slut Liam."

"No... no we haven't," William replied, his eyes darting to the floor. Had he come at a bad time? Should he have knocked first? He wasn't all too sure of the order around here and so, he was a little worried he might have upset the other. "I'm William. I'm new here... sorry, I didn't get your name? Are you... are you busy? I can leave if you wish to be left alone..."

“Yeah? Good to have someone to bounce ideas off I guess,” William replied, his gaze moving between watching the other chopping up the vegetables and letting it roam over the man’s face. As he held the spoon up to his lips, he blew on it gently before taking a small taste. “It’s delicious,” he mused, face lighting up as he spoke, “far tastier than anything I’ve had in a long time.”

“I don’t doubt that they’re good people,” he replied, a shy smile crossing his features, “and I understand that everyone’s a little busy. I don’t want to interrupt when it’s something so important. I suppose it’s just… I’m not all that used to being around people…” He trailed off, not wanting to elaborate for the moment. “No no you’re not rambling. I like hearing what you’re thinking. I uh… like listening to you.”

The older man smiled at the other’s response, pleased that what he was making was tasting good. Ryder didn’t exactly think of himself as a chef, but ever since they had landed here, he learned to pick up some skills in the kitchen to make sure they had food and sustenance to survive. A lot of it involved careful preparation and investigation as to what was or wasn’t edible. Not to mention how to cook or prepare several things. But he was at a point where he was comfortable enough cooking for the ship now.

“Well, if there’s something that’s on your mind that you need to get off your chest, I don’t mind if you interrupt me with whatever I’m doing. I’d rather you do that than keep it inside for some other time,” Ryder said as he looked over at William with his intense gaze, blue eyes shimmering softly underneath the lights inside the ship. “I hope you can become comfortable around us while you’re here. I know I’d like to become closer with you as well, if the opportunity arises,” he mused, before slicing off a small morsel of meat and holding it up to William’s mouth for him to taste. “I’m not too eloquent myself, but if you like listening, I’m happy to talk. Is there anything you would like me to talk about?”

William did think about offering to cook, even just once, since he did enjoy making things for others to enjoy. But for now, he would let Ryder do his thing, not wanting to interfere or upset anyone. He watched as the other continued pottering around the kitchen, opening his mouth as the other held up the piece of meat for him to taste.

"Thank you, I'm sure that if I ever need to talk, I'll find my way to you. The same goes for you. I know that I'm new here and it takes a while to get used to people but... I'm here if you need anything," he replied, swinging his legs a little as he spoke. "I'm sure it will. I would like that..." he muttered, his cheeks flushing ever so slightly, "I uh... maybe you could tell me a little more about you? Your past? If that's something you're ok with talking about of course..."

Thankfully William didn’t have any coffee in his mouth, otherwise it would have ended up all over him. His eyes wide, he could feel his cheeks beginning to blush, which he was sure Liam would be able to see now. “I uh… I’m sure that it does,” he agreed, “I can’t say I know from experience… but I believe you…”

there was a spark of fascination as the realization kicked in. liam set his mug down and immediately flew over to the other hero. he hovered right above william and stared at him with an incredulous look. “i don’t mean to pry, but have ya never… y’know?” the southerner inquired, wondering if william would catch his drift. it was impolite to ask, but liam figured doing so would create a level of trust between the two of them.

“Oh no don’t apologise!” William was quick to reply, shaking his head at the same time. He didn’t wish for the other to feel bad, not in the slightest. They were all so busy, it was easy for things to slip by the wayside.

“Are you sure? I wouldn’t wish to disturb you… or distract you,” he replied, though there was a small smile on his face as he spoke. Glancing at the spot Ryder had patted, he hopped up a moment later before turning to face the other. “I can taste test for sure. Things are going alright, it’s a little strange being in a group of people again. I don’t think I’ve been able to have a conversation with everyone individually yet but they all seem lovely. How have things been for you?”

Ryder watched as the young man hopped up, only resuming his task of cutting up some vegetables. He looked up every once in a while to maintain eye contact with William as they spoke. “It’s always nice to cook and have someone to talk to. Makes the time pass by quicker,” the blonde mused. “Here, let me know what you think of this broth. It’s a bit hot, so be careful,” Ryder remarked, holding up a spoon to William’s lips for him to taste.

“Everyone’s a good person here. It just takes time for people to open up with each other. We’ve all been stuck here for some time, but it would be nice for people to grow closer with each other,” Ryder murmured with a soft sigh. “They’re busy, if I’m honest. I want to figure out how to get us home as soon as possible. But it does mean a bit more responsibility that I need to address to ensure our safety. Patrols, relations with others if possible, doing order and checks…” The older man smiled after a moment, only shaking his head. “Ah, I’m rambling agin. I do think people just need time. And exposure. Perhaps we should do something more team-bonding?”

“Coffee has been a saving grace for me a few times, I’m glad that it can help you out now,” William chuckled, shuffling in his seat to try and get comfortable once again. Watching the other for a moment, his head tilted slightly, curiosity rising at the last comment. “Oh? Do you mind me asking what you do when you slip into another world then? I know some people say they’re able to do it with music… or just watching a movie or a tv show…”

the blush on the southerner’s cheeks only intensified when william asked him to elaborate. liam sheepishly scratched the back of his head and snickered. “usually, i allow someone else to slip inside me,” he admitted and proceeded to take another big sip of coffee. the group of heroes was no stranger to liam being a bit more promiscuous compared to the average person. the energy inside him had to be let out somehow. “does wonders for the psyche,” liam added with a nonchalant shrug.

“Well that’s not good at all, all the more reason for coffee huh?” He mused, sitting the book down so that he could give his full attention to Liam. After all, he could always pick up where he left off once he had a moment or two to himself. “Strangely enough, I found the swaying kinda comforting,” he continued with a small shrug. At the mention of not getting into reading, he thought for a moment before nodding. “I suppose it’s not everyone’s thing… i just found it easier to slip away into an imaginary world, even just for a little while..”

until the ship actually touches solid ground, liam doubted he’d be able to sleep properly. a bit strange, given he was one of the members in the team who could actually fly. something about being in the air twenty four seven simply didn’t sit right with him. “oh yes, coffee is my saving grace right now,” he replied with a chuckle and proceeded to drink more of the delicious dark substance in his mug. granted, liam always seemed to have a reserve of surplus energy so fatigue was almost foreign to him. “i do that a lot too. slip into another world, i mean. just not with a book,” the southerner remarked with a snicker, his cheeks brightening to a rosy shade of red.

Smiling at the young man, he nodded in response. “Well, I appreciate it. Although that perhaps more a fault of mine for not spending proper time with you. I apologize for that, William.” Ryder figured as the lead for this group, it was important that he set aside time to connect and bond with them individually.

“I’m just making some dinner for everyone, so I should be fine. But I wouldn’t mind the company if you want to sit here and chat. And maybe taste test some things for me,” he said with a smile as he patted the kitchen counter for the other to sit up on. “How are things going for you? Are you getting along with everyone okay? No one giving you any troubles?”

Peering up from his book, William gave the other a warm smile in return. “Good morning,” he called out, voice taking on a little sing song quality to it as he lifted the mug to his lips, taking a small sip. “Did you sleep alright? I wasn’t expecting to see anyone this early.” Glancing between Liam and the book in his hand, he hummed a little. “Interview With The Vampire. I read it years ago but I thought I might give it another look at, now I’m a little older,” he mused, peering back at the other, “you’re welcome to it once i’m finished if you like?”

much to liam’s relief and bewilderment, coffee beans actually grew on this world. as did tea leaves. at least the group’s caffeine needs were currently tended to. “slept like shit, if i’m honest. still ain’t used to all the rocking and swaying the ship does,” he replied and took another heavy sip in hopes of waking himself up further. the winds were a pain last night, but he was thankful the condor remained aloft just fine. the southerner smiled at the offer but waved his hand to politely decline. “never really got into reading, unfortunately. i could never sit still and flip through the pages like most folks.” must be why he struggled so much in school. nevertheless, he was glad his teammates found means of entertainment.

"Well, I don't think we've had a setting for us to chat one-on-one, if that's what you mean. But I know who you are; it's hard to be unaware of a man such as yourself doing good work out there. What can I do for you?”

William nodded softly in agreement with the other's statement. They hadn't had a chance to have a chat just one on one, since everyone had been so busy with their own tasks. "I was just... I thought maybe it might be good to just come by and say hello," he replied, "and to see if there was anything you might need help with?"

The sound of the rain was soothing at the very least. Pouring coffee into the two mugs, he found himself blushing ever so slightly at the other’s words, stealing a glance to see that the other had followed him round. “I uh… I thought that it might be somewhere safer for me to be,” he replied, voice a lot softer than it had been. He hadn’t spoken much about his past to any of the others here, not wanting to have them look at him any differently. “I was trying to get away from some things.. what about you? Did you join voluntarily?”

Somewhere safer for him to be? Those words made Hannes’ curiosity spark but it never really reached his face. Everyone was entitled to their secrets – to the reasons why they did what they did. As long as their goals were the same in the long run… did it really matter why they were there? If they wanted a fresh start, to be safe or even become someone better than who they used to be? “You don’t need to explain.” Hannes gave William a light smile as he reached for his mug, brushing his fingers gently against the other man. “We all have a past and we shouldn’t be judged by that.” He had one. Maybe not as colorful as some of the others but… “I came voluntarily. I wanted to be a part of something that made a difference in people’s lives. I am well aware of how it feels to be hopeless.”

He was thankful that Hannes told him he didn't need to explain. It wasn't that he didn't trust the other, it was more that he wasn't quite ready to tell his new friends about his past. He wasn't ready to have them change their view of him, have them look at him any differently. Taking a deep breath, it quickly caught in his throat when he felt the other brush his fingers against his. He wasn't all that used to having someone touch him gently and so, it shocked him. Turning to look at him, he nodded a little. "It's nice to be a part of something good that will help to make a difference," he agreed, a small smile growing as he watched the other. "I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better."

William tried at least to put on a warm smile, to try and spread a little happiness in the early mornings. Their days weren’t always so bright and so, if he could lift people’s spirits, he try his best to do so. “No I don’t mind,” he replied, “like I said, I was going to make a cup for myself so it only makes sense to put on a little more for two.” As he moved about preparing the two cups, he stole a glance at the other. “You don’t need to do that, I mean it. Now… milk or none?”

Blue eyes turned to the nearest window. It was still raining – and while Hannes had nothing against rain or water – the lack of sunshine could prove to be a determinant mood swing around the ship. “What if I want to?” With a light chuckle, he walked around the kitchen and followed William’s movements, genuine interest and curiosity lingering on his features. “How did you end up here, anyway? Did you join voluntarily?” Everyone had their reasons to join Paragon. To either make a difference or because they were forced to join, not giving much room to maneuver.
