Ahh! So, crazy excited to see the Carmilla Movie tonight. Years ago I wrote the theme music for a little non union web series with no expectations. After mixing 3.5 seasons, being welcomed by you all with open arms and watching it change the lives of so many people... all I can say is thank you. It’s been a blast. I was very fortunate to have been given the chance to sound design this movie. I’ll be posting clips of the process throughout the next few days. This is one of about 12 layers of audio that became the sound of the Spark. This was my favourite element to create and I can’t wait to have it hit me in the chest in the theatre tonight. Have you seen the movie?? Do you recognize this sound?

Was going through an old hard drive and found some files from The Signal. One that caught my eye (or ear I guess) was this piano and vocal only of ‘We Won’t Run’. Totally different vibe without the rest of the band. Maybe I need to cut an acoustic piano video for this tune... Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Being gay myself, I never got to be the hero of an action story. I saw gay characters in problem stories about being gay, and there were gay characters in some kissy romance stories, but that wasn’t the story I liked. I liked exploding robots. And I wanted to see a gay character in a book with exploding robots.

Today marks one year since releasing ‘Stronger Than You Know’ featuring my good friend @kbearluna. It is to date one of my favourite Soles songs and is really special to me. A few months back I made a post about my writing process (http://bit.ly/1LxqvkI). My process is noodling around, singing jibberish and smashing an instrument until something even remotely resembling a good idea comes out. 

I just found another clip from the writing of ‘The Signal’. A few years back I worked at a studio called Deschamps Studios. We had a grand piano in the main studio and I’d go in and noodle around with ideas. On this particular day I was playing with some major 7th chords and singing when I came up with what is now the main sax lick in ‘Portraits of a City’. I immediately took out my phone and hit record so I wouldn’t forget it. This stupid recording, full of mistakes and totally improvised became the foundation of, in my opinion, one of the best songs I’ve ever written.

I know it was totally a joke but if you EVER are considering something album art wise I would love to be a contender. I'm a drummer of 10 years and music is a huge part of my life, and in that same vain, album design is a definite goal of mine. Cheers!

That was definitely not a joke. Some of your stuff is very in line w my taste. I'm thinking of putting an acoustic ep together. Would love to chat about something for that. And if not that than definitely something else! Maybe some merch! Really dig what you do! Keep it up!

Yo yoooooo, how’s it going? I got a new job at a new studio recently and I’ve been busy as hell. But this studio is the bomb dot com (people still say that right?) so perhaps... some new music soon? I’ve always wanted to make an acoustic album. 

Anyway, I haven’t been Soles’ing as much as I should. But I just wanted to write this post to say thanks. I’ve been getting more notifications than usual that you’re all downloading and listening to my record. Almost as much as Stronger Than You Know which is pretty crazy as my record is not Carmilla related in any way haha.

Just a friendly reminder that while it is “pay what you can/want” I’d much rather you had it than not.
