5 Top tips to keep your oiled floor looking good and age well.

1. Have coir matting installed at the front door so the large dirt and grit particles don’t even make it on to your floor. Coir mats inside a mat well look great alongside timber flooring!

2. Vacuum or sweep regularly so the dirt doesn’t get worked in.

3. When washing a timber floor you should avoid sloshing too much water on the surface. Best to use a damp mop, tightly wrung out, together with the recommended cleaning products.

4. When the floor starts looking a bit dry polish with some liquid wax. Think about a well-polished pair of leather shoes, they will last much longer with what’s thrown at them in our climate.

5. Compare different flooring areas. Places with high traffic, such as hallways or kitchens might need re-oiling every 1-2 years whereas bedrooms can last much longer before this is needed.

DO ENGINEERED TIMBER FLOORS LOOK DIFFERENT FROM SOLID TIMBER FLOORS?

Our engineered floors are so well-made they look no different to their solid timber equivalent once they have been installed. The most common misconception is that solid floors will last longer. However often the wearing layer on a solid timber floor is the same thickness as a wearing layer on an engineered floor . At Solid Floor we use solid timber where needed, for example on nosings and timber threads, always in exactly the same finish as the engineered timber used on the floor area so there absolutely no noticeable difference once fitted.
