Rocklands Bird Sanctuary

Okay so took a little drive up into the hills along some very dodgy roads with potholes so big you could bury a body in to see this bird sanctuary. Very quiet place and off the beaten track. No one else was there so I got to sit down and feed the humming birds. Nice and quiet with a good view. Done it once don't need to do it again.

Becoming A Local

Okay so have been here 6 weeks now. It seems that lots of people know me. I come to Margaritaville and the bar staff know what I drink, I go to the beach and they know what I drink. Even the local taxi men ask whether I still have my car.... I'm not sure whether I like this or not

Green Grotto Caves

Visited the attraction of the Green Grotto Caves near Ocho Rios. Caves itself were okay, having visited better caves in other countries. But the tour guide was really good and knowledgeable and we weren't rushed around on the tour.

Hairdressers in Jamaica

After visiting a few salons where I was kindly told ‘we can't do your hair’, I found a hairdressers who said they could. I was scared already. I turned up for my appointment and confirmed the colour choice - showed the photo of how my should look and sat down ready. The hair dye was slapped on and the second colour for underneath was slapped up and wrapped in foil like a hotdog. The lady wanted to stick me under a dryer - I said no, just leave the colour on for 30 minutes and then wash off. I had an audience as well as the other ladies working there kept watching and checking the colour progress. Felt well special. 30 minutes passed and my hair was washed which felt lovely. Again I had an audience. The colour came out not too bad. Even the underneath colour wasn't too bad. Not the same as home - but happy with the outcome.

Route taxi’s

Okay so i’ve had the luxury of my own car for the last 4 weeks. So for the next few days until I get another car I’m back to route taxi’s. Route taxi’s in Jamaica basically operate like a bus service in UK - only in a car. You stand on the side of the road and a taxi will pull over and you jump in. There could be other people already in the car or you will pick up other people along the way and basically it drives a certain route and you just get out when you want. Very cheap way of getting around. But the taxi drivers here drive very wild. I miss the car already.
