look . i want to read the locked tomb trilogy. but every post i see about it confuses me more. like i’ll see a post waxing poetic about a space lesbian sci-fi apocalypse and then the next post will be about a guy called john remembering pizza he ate or something. the fourth book is coming out but everyone still calls it a trilogy. why are they skeletons.

I don't recall if I made this post before so I'm making it again now that the album is out. one of the best parts of three out of the four main roles being written for sopranos in Traetta's Ifigenia is that you can never tell which pair is currently singing the languishing farewell duet. and the best part is of course that it's never a heterosexual formation <3

the great thing about performing seria in the 21st century is that you have a text and dramaturgy guided entirely by 18th century ideals of courtly etiquette, getting translated into and reworked by contemporary sensibilities and approach to stage physicality. that is to say there's nothing outrageous in Deh se piacer mi vuoi in itself – it's a very clever character moment as an exercise of power in a no-longer-private setting, so Annio's presence is not just warranted to maintain dramatic flow but necessary for the aria to work as it is. but then we arrive to the 2000s and new ideas of what you're allowed to do onstage and Annio has about ten seconds of taking cover before there's five minutes of heavy petting involving his good friend that he has to make sure not to witness

Pino Daniele was possibly the most known and talented neapolitan singer and composer on earth, he created his own genre combining blues and the traditional neapolitan song, he was most known for his lyrics talking about the daily struggles of people in his beloved Napoli. That included speaking up for a number of oppressed and silenced minorities in a time where they wouldn't even be considered people. He passed in 2015, leaving a huge mark in all southern italians' lives.

Today the neapolitan language in music is even more frowner upon, called vulgar, bad-sounding, archaic, so these songs that were miles ahead of their time get lost, while they were priceless for the representation of queer people in this country. I'd like to live until a time where nobody will tell me the music of my people has no value.
