Warnings: allusion to intimacy, slightly suggestive (mention of inappropriate use of frosting but not in any detail), there be a kiss
Waking up to an empty bed was not how Solomon planned to start his day.
Groggily feeling around for your warmth he recalled last night where you had stayed over at Purgatory Hall so you could (in your words) spend the entirely of his birthday with him, beginning to end. Yet, you weren’t here. His eyes slowly cracked open, finally mustering the strength to sit up and inspect his bedroom.
Taking a sweeping glance around the room, he found your coat and overnight bag right where you left them on the chair. So, you hadn’t left. He doubted you would anyway, but still the reassurance was nice.
As his senses slowly caught up he thought he could detect the scent of food when the door to his bedroom quietly opened and you came into sight with a tray of breakfast balanced in your hands – and he smiled.
“Well, good morning, birthday boy. I didn’t know you were awake yet,” you greeted warmly as you carried the tray over to the bed.
Solomon huffed a laugh at being called “birthday boy” and received the tray graciously. “Good morning. I actually just woke up… I missed you.”
Sitting next to him on the edge, you kindly brushed some of his sleep-ruffled hair down. He couldn’t help but lean into your touch. “I missed you too, but I just went to the kitchen. We have to start the day off right with some breakfast in bed.”
“Can’t argue with that, I suppose.”
On the tray you’d arranged dishes for two – two platters of food, two sets of utensils, and of course, two mugs of coffee made to each of your liking. Keeping what was his on the tray and handing you what was yours, the both of you began eating contentedly in bed.
Taking a sip from his mug, Solomon spoke. “What’s on the itinerary for today?”
“I hoped to take you to the tree-lighting event in the park this evening,” you responded after swallowing your food. “Thought it was neat that it was happening on the same day as your birthday. Though until then I figured we could just spend some quality time together inside.”
His heart soared at your thoughtfulness put into making his birthday special. “That sounds wonderful. I’d love nothing more.”
--
“We’re going to miss it because of you,” you huffed while snagging your clothes from off the floor, making Solomon laugh.
“It’s hardly fair to pin the blame on me when you were a very willing participant.” Solomon said, leisurely pulling his pants on to purposefully rile you.
After breakfast, the two of you spent the morning exchanging cuddles and kisses until lunch when you brought in his favorite cake: a two-layered coconut cake topped with whipped cream frosting. What started out as him jokingly smearing some frosting on your cheek, then your lips, and kissing and licking it off between half-assed apologies transformed into deepened kisses, heavy petting, and clothes flying off – with most of the frosting ending up on your body. It was heavenly and he was not sorry in the slightest.
Your head popped out of the neck hole of your shirt as you grumbled lightly. “That’s besides the point. Just hurry up. You’re age is showing.”
To say that, today of all days… If he hadn’t already decided that that was clever, he would’ve glared at you. “You think you’re funny, don’t you?”
With only a smirk from you, he shook his head and dressed quicker.
--
The air was as cold as the park was loud. A crowd had gathered for the common purpose of watching the large tree in the middle of the park be lit. The outskirts of the main area had been pre-decorated with lights strung from the limbs of dead trees, bows wrapped around streetlamps, and stands of candy canes and other beloved Christmas symbols staked into the ground. There were also booths set up selling warm drinks and seasonal foods, as well as a marching band situated off to the side of the tree playing different songs for the occasion.
Luckily, you both had made it ten minutes before the scheduled start of the tree-lighting. In fact, you had gone off to acquire some hot chocolates, braving the long lines while Solomon stood dutifully in place amongst the demons congregating before the tree. He had wanted to go with you, but you convinced him to stay so as to not lose your spot and good view.
The lighting was to start any moment now, and he was growing impatient the longer you were away from him. Though no sooner as he began to shift from leg to leg in agitation could he hear your voice approaching as you pardoned your way through the sea of bodies. As you neared, he reached an arm out to wrap around your waist, guiding you into his side with a warm smile.
“There you are. Any longer and I might’ve grown worried.” Taking the paper cup that you offered him, he caught you rolling your eyes with mirth.
“Don’t think I didn’t see you getting antsy, Solomon. Besides, you know I could handle myself if something happened.”
He laughed softly, albeit agreeing mentally, and took a drink of his hot chocolate. The sweet, warm liquid spreading through his body, heating him up. “Well, excuse me then.”
The marching band finished their last song before the lone drum roll of a snare rattled off. As it began, the crowd chanted a countdown from ten and both you and Solomon joined in.
…Three …Two …One!
At that, the large pine tree burst into magnificent color. Compared to the white lights on the surrounding trees, the bulbs on this tree were multi-colored and the light shimmered against the tinsel strung along its branches. The star on top was alight for all to see as well.
The crowd roared in excitement, but Solomon had no time to do the same as you grabbed his face and brought him into a kiss. His grip around your waist tightened, and he acutely ignored the whistles and cheers of some of the demons who watched on. Neither of you were eager to part, though once you did, his breath caught in his throat.
The light from the tree danced ethereally on your face, and your eyes all but twinkled as you gazed at him – putting everything he’d ever known to shame. No, he was not so moved by the tree as when you lit up for him. And the world fell away at once, and his world was brought to its knees before your shining love.
“Happy birthday, my Solomon,” you whispered between the small space left by your parting. It was all Solomon could do to hold himself back from chasing your lips, rather keeping his decorum in the presence of others. Instead, he rested his forehead against yours and whispered back with all the reverence he had in him.
“It is happy… Because you’re here to celebrate with me.”
CW: this piece isn't overtly NSFW, but it is definitely suggestive, so read at your own risk. I used the name Zephyr instead of MC here. This is specifically male MC x Solomon!
“Solomon! Solomon, just one moment!”
“Solomon? Or is it Lord Solomon?”
“Solomon, how dare you?”
“Solomon, over here!”
After the first few centuries, they had all started to blend together. Humans, demons, and angels alike; maybe they wanted to be his apprentice, to ask him questions about magical theory, to pull the wool over his eyes and make themselves look better. He didn’t know, and honestly, he didn’t care. He had better things to do, like make pacts with powerful demons.
The Devildom’s exchange program was the first thing that promised to be interesting in ages. Barbatos and Diavolo were interesting enough, but the opportunity to get close to the seven Avatars of Sin and two angels? He’d have to be truly stupid to pass that up.
As for his fellow human exchange student, he had thought they’d be another wizard; not as powerful as him, of course, but someone at least versed in magic. And if they tried to cling onto him like the others, he had plenty of experience in turning down proffered apprenticeships. The one that he’d taken was a stain on his memory, and he was just too cautious to take a risk like that again.
That’s what he had thought, at least.
Sorcerer Solomon, with seventy-two pacts, had fallen to a human. Not just any human; no, this one had no idea that demons had so much as existed before they were inducted into the exchange program. And Solomon was- albeit cliche- head over heels for him.
He was almost everything Solomon had feared he’d be when they met- innocent, naive even- but never stupid. For someone with absolutely no concept of magic or the supernatural, he had stayed on his own two feet longer than anyone could’ve expected. Actually, he did much better than that. By the end of one short year, he had the most powerful demons in existence wrapped around his finger like it was nothing. Even Lucifer, who had eluded Solomon for decades, had actually offered him a pact. So he did the logical thing and took him on as an apprentice.
Solomon was fascinated at first. Just a scientific, detached curiosity, nothing more. But, entirely without his permission, that fascination had grown into something much more complicated. Somewhere along the way, Zephyr’s visits to Purgatory Hall had started to make Solomon much happier than an apprentice’s visit should warrant. Solomon found himself checking his hair in the mirror before mandatory meetings just in case Zephyr might be there; straightening his shirt before he walked into class. Zephyr had this strange, immutable something about him that drove Solomon crazy.
As it turned out, Solomon loved being driven crazy. He loved the sheer unpredictability of it all; the way his heart would beat faster whenever Zephyr walked into a room, the way he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the little sliver of stomach that was revealed when he stretched his arms up. Solomon couldn’t remember the last time someone did something that he couldn’t control or turn around, and for some strange reason, it had him hooked.
It was like an addiction, a craving he couldn’t shake, and Solomon has never been one to ignore his desires. He wanted to see Zephyr, so he came up with every ridiculous excuse he could to spend time with him. He wanted to make him smile, so he cast little illusion spells that made sparkling snowflakes float down onto his head. No matter how much he did, how much he got, it was never enough to satisfy him.
The desire wasn’t simple, either; not just physical, like Solomon was used to. He wanted not only to see Zephyr smile, he wanted to be the reason he was happy. He would do anything he needed, anything at all. He was Solomon, he had resources the likes of which most people couldn’t conceive. Anything at his disposal, he was ready to give up in a moment if Zephyr asked.
Just like the demons, he found himself enamored to the point of foolishness. If Zephyr told him to go to war against the Devildom all over again, he’d do it without a second thought. It wasn’t something he could’ve expected, this man that was so painfully human, capturing his attention, his heart, his life.
He lies on Zephyr’s bare chest, both breathing slowly in the warm air. Zephyr’s fingers idly wander, making paths through his hair, tracing patterns up and down his back. Solomon’s eyes are closed, but he’s fighting sleep. He doesn’t want to miss a second of this intimacy, the vulnerability of these precious moment.
“Solomon?”
“Mm?”
“All these… there’s seventy-two of them?” Zephyr asks, hushed curiosity in his voice.
“Mhm,” Solomon replies, his voice raspy. “The lesser demons’ marks are smaller. Take up less space.”
Zephyr hums a wordless response. A beat passes, and Solomon’s mind settles into wordless bliss again.
“Sometimes I think I forget how powerful you are,” Zephyr breaks the silence. Solomon shifts to look up at him, eyebrows creased together. “With these,” Zephyr clarifies, tracing the marks with his fingertips again. “I have enough trouble with seven. I can’t imagine ten times that,” he mutters, lips pushed out in a miniature frown.
Solomon snorts. “It’s hardly the same thing.”
“What do you mean?”
“The brothers are leagues more powerful than most of the demons I have pacts with.”
“Well, sure, but…” Zephyr trails off, trying to put his thoughts together. “You never seem to get overwhelmed with it. The brothers are dragging me around everywhere all the time; they want to have dinner and watch TV and- I don’t know, be practically glued to me.”
Solomon grins. “You do have that effect on people.”
“Shut up.”
“But really, it’s not the same at all. Pacts with most demons are really only used to command them. They’ll ask me for favors, but I’m well within my rights to refuse.”
“Wow,” Zephyr mutters, dropping back into silence. “Does it remind you of being a king?” he teases, a smile growing on his face. “All your subjects at your feet?”
Solomon huffs a laugh. “Hardly. If there’s a king in this room, it’s you.”
“Me?” Zephyr asks, genuine surprise in his voice.
“Yes, you. Of course it’s you. You could put-” Solomon stretches his arm out and brushes Zephyr’s forehead- “a crown right here, and it’d look like it was made for you.”
Zephyr shakes his head. “Sometimes I can’t tell if you’re teasing or not.”
“Maybe we’ll never know,” Solomon says softly, brushing Zephyr’s jawline with a finger. “My king.”
Summary: Baking cookies with Solomon becomes a flirtatious ordeal.
AN: Oops, this is late. I had a busy day yesterday, so I'm posting this now, sorry 🙁 Also, I know I've posted a similar fic where Solomon and the reader bake cookies on the night of the first snowfall, but I lowkey wanted to revisit cookie baking with him. I just love the idea of baking cookies with him (even though he can't/shouldn't lol). Anyways, I do hope you enjoy! 💜
Warnings: vaguely takes place during Nightbringer's timeline, slightly suggestive but nothing major, neck kisses (ooh aah!), an actual kiss happens (woah!)
“Now carefully, carefully measure it… That’s it… Now gently pour it into the mixture… and...”
“Solomon!” you burst into laughter at the feel of his hot breath ghosting over your ear. He was doing this on purpose, making you nervous for no good reason. “It’s vanilla extract, not the red wire of an active bomb I’m about to cut.”
The bastardly sorcerer barked into laughter of his own while inching way from where he’d been hovering behind you. “But this is just as important, my adorable apprentice. We must get the recipe right if we’re to have cookies this evening.”
Your body froze. For a moment, you half-jokingly wondered if you had jumped timelines again – one where you had been blissfully living with an anti-Solomon and weren’t aware of it. Your Solomon could not and would not follow a recipe even if it saved his immortal life.
Dumping the vanilla into the bowl, you tossed an incredulous look over your shoulder. “You’re actually joking, right?”
“No?”
“Since when do you care about exacting a recipe?”
“No, I don’t care about exacting a recipe,” he corrected, acting all pious as he placed a righteous hand over his chest. “But I know you’re a stickler for the details. I’m just trying to be encouraging.”
Stickler for the details. That was not what you would call avoiding certain death by food poisoning, but to each their own, you supposed. With a slight shake of your head, you continued on and cracked an egg to add to the batter. Solomon leaned against the counter with the cookbook in hand, reading over the next steps carefully as if it were a spell in one of his old tomes. His little habits were present of course; biting his lip, stroking his chin. It was cute. And it was for that reason you didn’t have the heart to tell him you had long memorized the recipe.
The plan for this evening was to bake and decorate sugar cookies before hoarding a plateful into the common room to eat while watching movies together and snuggling under a blanket – a nice cozy night in with the person you loved. Perfection.
And with such good help, it didn’t take long for the rest of the ingredients to be added into the bowl.
“Looks like all there’s left to do is mix,” Solomon dutifully instructed before closing the book and tossing it onto the counter. Following his words, you began to stir the mixture. The wet ingredients mixing with the dry ones made the batter thicken gradually until it almost became too hard to continue.
That was, until gentle hands enveloped your own, helping to hold the bowl and stir the spoon. Warmth pressed against your back and you had to restrain yourself from melting into him entirely. First and foremost, cookies were to be made tonight. Though thankfully, his additional effort did ease the strain in your muscles and the two of you continued like this for a few comfortable moments before he began running slow kisses up your neck.
“Have I ever told you you’re sweeter than any cookie?”
He was going to be the destruction of both you and the plans you made for the evening if he kept this up. Yet despite yourself, you couldn’t stop from giggling at the soft lips on your skin, as well at his sappy words. “No, I don’t think you have.”
Solomon hummed into your neck. “That’s a shame. Because I know for a fact that you are.”
“Solomon…” You attempted to shrug him off, at least enough to where your concentration wasn’t so clouded. And you bid your heart to calm its racing. “Do you want cookies or not?”
“Yes, of course I do,” getting the hint, he paused his ministrations, though his eyes remained mirthful. “Can I not want you at the same time?”
Deciding the batter was fully mixed, you stop your hands to knock the spoon against the bowl, hoping to regain some sense and not be lured in by the evil siren standing behind you in the kitchen. “Not right now, no.” you said, even though your lips begged to say yes.
Although he sighed, you knew he wasn’t entirely deterred. Letting go of you he returned to the counter to give you space. “You’re no fun.”
You chuckled. “I might be fun after we’re done baking.” Shooting him a meaningful glance, he all but perked up at the implication.
From then until the cookies came out of the oven, Solomon was on his best behavior and kept his hands to himself. The golden brown beauties cut in the shape of little stars were decorated with colorful frosting and sprinkles, and neither of you went unscathed – fingers stained with food coloring and sticky icing. The last two stars, however, were agreed to be reserved to make little cookie versions of each other.
After working quietly and diligently, Solomon suddenly laughed as he held up his star. While it was a little messy, he had done his best to capture your essence in sugar cookie form. “Here you are, my star.”
“And here you are, my star.” Repeating the petname back, you then held up yours, which was just as messy as his yet still charming in its own way. The two of you laughed at the botched portraits, and as you were about to exchange cookies he pulled his back with a sneaky grin.
“Actually, I think it would be best if we kept our cookies.”
An eyebrow arched on your forehead. “Oh? And why is that?” You had a sneaking suspicion of where this was going, but took the bait anyway.
The grin on his face only grew as he responded. “I have a theory to test. I hope you don’t mind a few kisses once they’re eaten because I’m going to confirm that you are, in fact, sweeter than a cookie.”
Intrigued, you bit off a piece of the cookie that looked like him while he took a bite of yours. True to his word, once the star cookies were eaten Solomon wasted no time in pulling you close by your waist and capturing your lips in a passionate kiss that was absolutely sweetened by the icing on his tongue.
Indeed, the answer was easy to conclude for both of you. And the night was only going to get sweeter.
