most unrealistic part of PHM is that there is no way that dr. ryland grace, PhD, would not have a flock of suitors following him everywhere he goes. that man is like catnip for academic shut-ins, alien enthusiasts, odd women, and gay people everywhere, as this site has clearly demonstrated
now I’m NOT saying he should have had a partner on earth or whatever because I do think it’s awesome that he’s (implicitly at least) aro/ace/both, but it would have been a great aside to see the cloud of yearning that follows him everywhere which he either has to deal with or has decided to be permanently ignorant of. like the comedy potential of objectively the most fuckable man any of these strange science geeks have ever met being like oh um :) thanks for the coffee and the flowers and stuff and you guys are all so nice to me it’s great to work with you all :)
the devastation he would leave in his wake. like some sort of benevolent aroace whale floating serenely through an ocean of allo heartbreak. feigning ignorance because can you guys lock in we have alien microbes to study
Something else I see people keep forgetting: between humans and Eridians, we are the astronauts. And we are good at it.
Eridians' perception of the world relies on something that is completely absent in space — sound. They haven't been looking at the stars their entire existence the way we have. Their concept of aliens might only be as old as their discovery of astrophage. They made a bad ship, because it was their first one ever! Rocky himself says they rushed it, and that multiple (vital) things broke. Their mission was just as much of a Hail Mary pass as ours was — they had no idea what they were doing, if they could even travel in space safely. And, as it turns out, they couldn't.
Humans are the ones who have been doing it over multiple lifetimes. Mary is state of the art. We've been space farers longer than most humans have been alive. We can actually see through space. We are more likely to survive exposure to the void. We can encase our lighter, more flexible, more mobile bodies in a material that lets us walk outside of our ship, and, to a degree, we can get our bearings out there in a way Eridians just can't.
Eridians are not looking at Mary and thinking she's a bad ship. They are not thinking humans have no idea what we're doing. They are looking at this species that can walk in the stars, have been perfecting machines to take us to them for decades, have been dreaming about them and mapping them and naming them for millennia, and used all of that to save them, and thinking, wow.
need a hat that says I WONT SPEAK UNLESS SPOKEN TO AND ITS NOT BECAUSE IM DISINTERESTED AND DONT LIKE YOU I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND SOCIAL INTERACTION AS WELL AS MOST PEOPLE AND ASSUME BY DEFAULT MY PRESENCE IS UNWELCOME AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE SO I KEEP TO MYSELF BUT I DONT MIND IF YOU INITIATE so i can wear it to work
Rocky and Grace are yelling at each other. Rocky stops mid argument to demand that Grace put on his angry eyebrows. Grace immediately stomps to the whiteboard, stomps back over with the dry erase marker, draws angry eyebrows on the xenonite ball. the argument continues

What doesn’t get talked about enough is that, all those 40-something years, Rocky had all the supplies he needed to go back home. He had the fuel, he had the food. But he didn’t. He tried and tried and tried. He kept going. He took measurements, gathered data, built new Astrophage samplers but could never get it right. He maintained the Blip-A, a ship that was built in a hurry and just kept breaking, for over FORTY YEARS. When Grace found him, Rocky wasn’t just sitting idle in orbit. He was still working, still trying, he hadn’t given up. He was tracking the stars, probably to watch for a potential second mission from Erid, when he spotted the Hail Mary in reverse-thrust. Rocky calls Grace brave. Truly, Grace is. But I’d compare Rocky more to Stratt. How much of yourself would you be willing to sacrifice to save your planet? Rocky was willing to stay at Tau Ceti for the rest of his life until he either found a solution, or died.

ive never been able to take "climb him like a tree" as a sexual innuendo seriously because i picture climbing a tree in my mind and then i picture a tall man in my mind and when i put those two things together im not seeing anything sexual. im seeing like. circus tricks.
The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
personally I'm annoyed by the socioeconomic conditions that made words like "unalive" necessary but simultaneously impressed by the linguistic adaptations young people have made to continue talking about important things while subject to those conditions and I think if you can't hold both of those thoughts in your head you might just be old man yelling at cloud
We need to isolate and start selectively breeding the plastic eating bacteria so we can optimise their efficiency, and then somehow splice their DNA into the gut bacteria of an obligate carnivore, so we can put it in our cats gut biomes so they'll finally be free of having to choose between whether they want to eat plastic or whether they want to live.

Hey idk who needs this but helpful reminder that "virgin blood" in any witchcraft shit that requires that means "virgin" in the same sense as "virgin hair" means hair that hasn't been dyed or processed in any way, natural in the default sense. So no, "virgin blood" doesn't mean blood from a virgin, just blood that hasn't been used for any other kind of witchy shit earlier.
Whether nor not someone has fucked before is completely irrelevant. Any act of fucking doesn't instantly make someone contaminated or un-magic any of their shit. You're just not supposed to re-use blood for blood magic. That's just not. Just do not. Like that's just weird who does that.
Hi! I'm not the anon who asked about "tips on cooking prompts" but now I'm very interested in cooking/baking dialogue prompts (particularly, the ones where one character is an excellent cook and the other can burn a frozen waffle)!
Hi :)
I let my potatoes cook for about an hour today because I forgot about them, so I felt inspired to write some prompts for you while trying to still eat them.
Cooking/Baking Dialogue Prompts
“Oh honey, this not how you separate egg white.”
“How does your food always look so good and mine always burns?” “Years of practice and a lot more common sense than you are showing in the kitchen.”
“If we do it at an higher temperature it’s going to be ready a lot faster, right?” “Do not touch the oven!”
“How did you go through life so far without knowing how to make a grilled sandwich?” “I don’t know, but thank God, I have you now.”
“That definitely looks… interesting.”
“Why are you praying before you even try a bite of the food I made?”
“If you tell me you burnt yourself, I’m going to say I told you so.”
“You always make it look so easy!” “And you always make it look like a disaster zone.”
“So, how do you like the food I made for you?” “It’s not inedible, I guess.”
“How about I do the cooking and you do the dishes?”
"The recipe says I need a trusted adult for this step." "You are an adult." "But I do not trust me."
"Wow, you're basically a five-star michelin cook!" "You should raise your standards if you think boxed mac 'n' cheese deserves those kinds of accolades."
"Have you heard of spices before?" "Like salt?" "That would be a start."
"It's an upside-down cake." "Was it supposed to be an upside-down cake?"
"Thank you for the dinner. And please remind me that I will never let you into my kitchen ever again."
Hope you like them and cook/bake something tasty today!

can you imagine tho if Eridians discovered radiation years and years after the Blip-A left
and they're just absolutely horrified because now they know why the Blip-A never returned, they sent them all to die, now to save their sun they have to redo the entire program all over again and Adrian is devastated -
and then three Eridian years later Rocky shows up with his pet alien and a ton of taumeoba all I LIVED BITCH
i can't stop thinking abt this post so
