She was smiling on the outside, but on the inside she was ripping the redhead’s throat out with her teeth.

being the compassionate person she was, aria wished she could reach out and hug the woman in front of her. but she didn’t do that.
she had heard bits & pieces of the story, but never the full one. & she never wanted to ask; she knew how sad it had made everyone. she hadn’t been apart of that part of their life, & she wondered whether she could be so forgiving of the woman who stood before her if she had been— if she had to see her brother so hurt.

“Its very sweet of you to say that, but I don’t think you’ve heard the way they talk about me."
“The two of you are family. I’m not your family. You’re Aria. The Figueroa legend. None of them have or want to forgive me. And really, I don’t blame them.”
She was on the verge, but very determined not to let any of the mafia see her cry. She didn’t like that. And she almost didn’t like this girl Aria. Almost. It wasn’t fair that they weren’t exaggerating about her; that she was exactly who they had described so many years ago.
“I’m---sorry. I guess. It must sound like I’m just throwing a huge pity party for myself. Everything’s all about Cara.”

eyes shimmered with curiosity, as the blonde continued to look at the woman. she hadn’t had much exposure to cara, mainly because the figueroas liked to have as little association with the raven haired beast as possible. but aria wanted to give her a chance. everyone had a story. everyone had reasons why they did things; & even though she disliked the things this woman had done to her brother, that was all in the past. this is the present.
❝ so, cara, tell me about yourself. ❞
“My full name is Caramia Bambi de Rose, and I hate it. I have one brother, Alfie, and I also hate him. Haven’t seen mom or dad in a few years, and you guessed it, not very fond of them either. I jumped from place to place and learned how to butcher, and drink. Landed in your hometown and met your brother. He’s quite the charmer. We got married, had a baby...lost our baby, our marriage was falling apart--and I just-- I ran. I was scared, and upset, and ashamed, and by the time I realized I’d made the biggest mistake of my life it was too late.”
“I really do did love your brother and your family. I actually liked being around them. And I hate that I fucked all of that up. Emilio can’t look at me, Elenora uses my name as a curse word, and the rest try not to acknowledge I exist. So I can’t even get a useless apology in with anyone.”

she was protective over her family, but she also had an open mind and wanted to hear this woman’s s t o r y .
❝ i’m not here to judge you. i actually wanted to meet you. ❞
“What do you know, a Figueroa that isn’t here to remind me what a bitch I am.”
“You must be Aria. The lost little angel of the mafia. I’ve heard a lot about you, and I’m sure you’ve heard more than enough of me.”
She had heard about the girl. That she was kindest and gentlest soul put on this earth. All the hype made her weary. Elenora couldn’t keep her opinions of Cara to herself, and it was always very clear that Elenora’s word was law. She’ll wait it out and see for herself, but it was difficult to picture any of the Figueroas taking a liking to her anymore; especially at the risk of being shunned or scolded by their “leader”,
“I’m sure Elenora has told you one of her many little nicknames for me, but the name I go by is Cara.”
❝ Nope. I don’t really associate with animals. So when Sage plays with her pet, I don’t tag along.❞
“Strange.”
“You’d think a dog and a bitch could get along.”

❝ Don’t you ever just feel like a third wheel? ❞
“With Emma and August? Of course not. They’ve always been very inclusive.”
“Do you ever feel like a third wheel with Sage and her girlfriend?”
❝ Maybe because the ring doesn’t belong to me. ❞
Her words weren’t meant to be DEMEANING or CONTRADICTING it was just her talking, brainstorming, p a r t i a l l y to h e r s e l f.
❝ It—It wouldn’t feel right. It’s—It’s not mine to have. I understand that now. ❞
She wouldn’t want a ring that would forever remind Emilio of his parents, and ex-wife.
❝ It always did surprised me before. But it makes sense now. Plus I love my new one. 100 PERCENT from his heart. ❞
Then the inappropriate thought came to her, her expression clear on her face that she wanted to say something else—but she held that thought in.
“All I meant was it’s one of their only heirlooms. And Elenora is very...traditional. I’m shocked she didn’t force the two of you to use the old rings.”
Mona was good. Better than she initially thought. She had her faults; her voice strained sometimes--it would raise a pitch. And she wasn’t very good at hiding her expressions. She had seen that face before on Mona. Cara had seen lots of words left unsaid from Mona back home.
“Is there something else bothering you, honey?”
Unwelcomed sparks coursed through her veins, causing her skin to tingle at the contact; Cara actually touching her hand, looking at Mona’s wedding ring, caught the blonde majorly off guard. But she regained her composure.
❝ Yeah. He bought it for me. Picked it out and everything. ❞
She wanted to hold her tongue, but itdanced at Cara’s remark.
❝ I would have loved his mother’s ring, but he wouldn’t let me have it—said it was cursed—only led to bad marriages. ❞
Then the look of remorse hit her features, eyes W I D E N I N G a bit before she s l o w l y attempted to take her hand away.
❝ I———I didn’t mean it like that. It’s—It’s what he always said. He meant because of his parents……❞
Mona wasn’t fully uncivilized. She knew Emilio would want her to apologize. He might kill her for letting that slip though.
Her turn to be caught off guard.
Cara let Mona’s hand go. She wasn’t sure how to respond. She wasn’t used to not having the upper hand. And responding was one of the least of her worries, she wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about it either. Cara would never deny she deserved comments like that. But she still never expected them to come from him--everyone else--but not him.
“Emilio...he said that?”
“Don’t worry. I understood exactly what you meant. Didn’t sound like his parents were too fond of each other. Still, it’s surprising that he didn’t give you that ring.”
The way she prickled, you’d think she was turning into a porcupine; but she tried to keep her cool—she had to.
She could deal with the Care Bear comment, she deserved it, but that nick name caused Mona’s stomach to twist and turn— almost causing Mona to drop the glass she was filling for Cara.
Did Cara call Emilio ❛ Millo ❜ in their the past, or was she just trying to get under Mona’s s k i n?
She slammed the drink onto the counter a little harder than necessary, then propped her arms on said counter, leaning in slightly as if she were really wanting to talk to the woman i n f r o n t of her.
❝ Millo Em? He’s W O N D E R F U L. ❞
Then Mona began to subconsciously play with her wedding ring.
“Couldn’t imagine him any other way. Nothing but wonderful. Always so chipper I mean, but you know that.”
Her eyes went from the glass that was “placed” in front of her. She took a drink; she hadn’t looked away from Mona, so she was confident that the blonde hadn’t spit in it.
Whether Mona meant toy with the ring on her finger or not, it didn’t go unnoticed.
Cara set the glass down on the counter, and took Mona’s hand in hers, looking over the diamond littered band.
“Millo bought you that huge rock?”
“Here all I got was his mother’s hand-me-down.”
Hearing Cara comment on the way she used to call everyone honey was like being a cat who’s fur was being pet backwards. It made the hair on the back on her neck stand.
She began to make the girl’s request, while continuing conversation.
❝ Everyone USED to be my ❛ honeys ❜. But ever since Emilio and I met during the curse, he became the one and only honey for me. ❞
The thought actually made her nose crinkle in delight, a smile, though still a touch catty, that actually touched her eyes.
❝ That’s why he calls me his Winnie. Or his pooh bear. ❞
Alright. So that’s how its going to be played today. Could’ve stopped after the ‘one and only’ comment.
Storybrooke really needed another good bar. Or another bartender.
She casually drummed her fingers against the bar top;
“Got a thing for bears, doesn’t he? He always called me his Care Bear.”
“How is Millo?”

She might have been GLARING. But once Cara came her way, she smiled brightly and brushed the hair out of her face, trying to act natural and hope she wasn’t caught.
❝ Hey, sugar. Want me to mix you a drink? ❞
Her voice was s t r a i n e d; she hoped the genuineness didn’t seem as forced as it felt.
“Sugar? I thought everyone was your honeys.”
She always knew when Mona was in the room; there was the ever present feeling of someone glaring into her back. And she’d be lying if she said she didn’t purposely go over to the small blonde.
They’d known each other a long time, never had been particularly fond of each other. In a way Cara really just wanted to deck Mona. Maybe a fight would stop the whole nice routine.
“Long Island. With anything other than Captain Morgan.”
❝ —Don’t you do this to me. ❞
“Unless you don’t think I’m cute. But if you didn’t think I was cute, that would mean you weren’t into long hair, long legs, and big brown eyes.”
“Really who isn’t into that?”
❝ Now what exactly is that supposed to mean, babe? ❞
“It means that I’m cute and you shouldn’t be mad at me.”
“And that I think your hair is pretty. And your face.”
