Anton Chekhov, from a diary entry featured in “The Notebook of Anton Chekhov,”
the “you live with your parents” insult is really flaccid because a metric shitton of cultures don’t see “leave the house forever” as some grandiose moment of liberation that’s so important to the development of a person that it has to happen as fast as possible. until i came to the USA i didn’t know a single person who was pressured by their parents to leave the house because they’re “too old to stay there” or whatever. in puerto rico it is really common to stay with your parents until they and you are both stable enough that you can leave. whaddaya know, there are cultures that don’t place a stigma on being poor or wanting to care for your family or needing your family to care for you for some other reason.
✨ Day 2 of the Summer Studying Challenge ✨
12th July - What is the worst vacation you have ever been on?
Worst vacation is kind of an easy question, my parents and I were traveling to a resort in a hill station along with my aunt and her family. The day before we left for the trip though, I, very foolishly drank two whole-milk milkshakes knowing full well what it would do to me (i'm lactose intolerant). Miraculously, nothing seemed to be happening that day and I didn't have any urges to camp out in the washroom for hours. But the next day, about an hour into our long drive my body decided to act up. From what I'm told the scenery was gorgeous and everyone had loads of fun but the only thing I can remember is having to smell lemons at the back of the car to keep myself from vomiting and stopping at roadside shops every half hour or so to go to the washroom. We had to cut-short the trip as I had to be admitted to a hospital for about a week after. That entire experience successfully kept me off any kind of diary for a long couple of months after 🥲
I've been studying all day today and still have a bit of work to do but I've decided to start a new book tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I hardly get to read at the moment. For the semester vacations I have therefore firmly resolved to dedicate myself to my books and to write more stories again.
I am still a little undecided whether I should read a new crime story today or rather something light to let the day end :)

Today I had my first real moment alone since arriving in Malta, over coffee and books this morning at a café near the university. I love this spot; these balconies are everywhere in the city and they are so full of sunlight :–)
07.08.21 | are you a night owl or a morning person? I’m both actually. I love waking up at 6am during breaks. I love enjoying a cup of coffee and breakfast first thing in the morning, two of my faves in this world. however, college and med school turned me into a night owl because there’s no time to study during the day —we are mostly tired from a whole day of lectures, activities, and exams. this is also why I post at this hour. 😆 my study brain is active at night! old habits die hard, I guess. 😂
stormy morning
How does it feel to be an adult?
exhausting and everything is expensive
Just a reality check for anyone who might need it, 90% of being a hardworking student isn't pretty notes, it's not relaxing Mozart playing in the background to your vanilla iced late and reading Aristotle while the sun rises. It can be very easy to glorify the pretty parts of academia while looking through Tumblr and instagram and think that this makes up the 90%, but it doesn't. Especially when you get to uni/college! 90% of my study in uni is having to find 4 different sources of information to even begin to UNDERSTAND a topic before class. It's hours of study before a lecture just to keep up, it's saying no to a lot and prioritising your education.
Don't think that just because you're struggling while everyone else looks perfect that you are lesser of a student. Everyone stresses, everyone's study and notes can look messy. Your struggles are valid, because being a hardworking student is just that, it's hard.
reminder!!
some things in the works 👀 ft. one of my favorite notebooks of all time, the midori md a5 dot grid journal, and a cup of genmaicha
