bird box has one of the biggest age gaps, sandra is 54 and trevante is 28, and still i have yet to see someone on woke twitter or tumblr make a fuss out of it. wanna know why? cause the characters are heterosexual. no other way to spin it. i’ve long suspected the hyperfocus on age gaps in lesbian/gay movies was moreso an insidious way to bash homosexuals and i’m absolutely correct. it’s infuriating that a ten year age gap in a lesbian relationship between two adults is “creepy” and “predatory” but a twenty four year age gap between heterosexuals it isn’t even mentioned, let alone questioned. in fact i’ve only seen that straight dynamic praised for being so romantic. it’s so transparent and disgusting. fuck y’all.

They literally mention the age gap in the movie… When he’s hitting on her she says “I could’ve been your baby sitter” and says he’s only hitting on her because it’s the end of the world and he agrees. She’s also very reluctant to be in any kind of relationship with him at all. Five years pass and for all we know it took them years to actually agree to a relationship. Plus they’re both adults well out of their adolescence. People have issues with LGBTQ+ relationships in the media and how they’re portrayed because typically it’s with someone who is either a late teenager or just out of their teens and someone much older. Plenty of people call out Hollywood for the massive age gaps between between onscreen couples as much older men are typically the love interest of much younger women. This really isn’t anything new
