Im gonna shill for Marie Kondo again but this is why I find her books (yes, books, the TV show is fun but ultimately misses a lot of the core ideas) so good.
A lot of home org advice fully misses this aspect. Kondo not only acknowledges it, but leans into it. And ultimately this helps motivste me to keep my space tidy - it's really hard to me to keep on the nebulous goal of self-care, but much easier to get up and put things away if I envision my salt and pepper grinders as like, retail workers who are now standing in an empty shop (my dining table) and just wanna go home (the spice rack where they live).
Normie tidying process: that heater should be put away for summer! I mean, I'm not gonna need it
Me: well it's just chilling and also I can't be arsed.
Kondo: that heater has done a good job keeping you warm over winter and now it should get to go have a rest in the cupboard
Me: !! Sabbatical for my heater!! Thank you for your service sir and have a very nice break!
4yo: actually, my dad work for nike
Me: my dad works for dinosaur
4yo: (very skeptic but doesn't have the words to call me out) tell me what... is the... dinosaurs nameš
Itās that time of year to say no to the Salvation Army.
Never forget they let a Trans woman die instead of helping her.
Never forget they have tossed entire families on the street for having an LGBT child.
Never forget they tell non Christian families that unless they convert they will not help them.
Never forget that the Salvation Army is bigoted and hateful, many of the bell ringers routinely heckle and harass LGBT couples.
Annual reblog.
Itās time for my annual My Mom story.
My mom and grandma used to volunteer a lot for the local Salvation Army, mostly helping with their fabric sale. Mom mostly did it for something to do with grandma.
I held my tongue for awhile, but finally I said āMom, the SA has some really problematic policies. Iām not telling you what to do, but you might want to look into it.ā
She did.
Keep in mind my mom is a boomer white lady living in a modest Midwestern city.
She didnāt like the things she found out. She went directly to the leaders of their chapter and asked, āIf a gay or trans person came to you for help, what would you do?ā
They said: āWeād direct them to someone who could help them.ā
Her: āBut thatās supposed to be YOU.ā
Them: āWeāre not equipped to help themā (or some other vagueing bullshit)
My mom (aka not stupid): Fuck this shit, Iām out.
She resigned from the SA. A lot of her friends asked why. She told them why.
Over the next year, over sixty people left the local SA, citing their views on lgbtq people as the reason.
i love seeing cardinals and bluejays together iām always like āhehe.. evil siblingsā
this is what iām all about babyyyyy
Theyāre not even related. Jays are a type of corvid, like crows and magpies, and Cardinals are a grosbeak.
well you see, they are both birds and they both have fun hats. hope this helps
Of all the biased statements made by US President Joe Biden, the one where he suggested that Palestinians are lying about counting their own dead was perhaps the most inhumane.
Washington may not realize this yet, but the repercussions of its unconditional support for Israel will prove to be disastrous in the future, especially in a region that is fed up with war, hegemony, double standards, sectarian divisions and endless conflict.
But the greatest impact will be felt in Israel itself.
When Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, gave a powerfully emotional speech on October 26, he could not hold back tears. International delegations at the UN General Assembly clapped non-stop, reflecting the growing support for Palestine, not only at the UN, but in hundreds of cities and towns, and in countless street corners around the world.
When the Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, who had spearheaded much of the lies communicated by Tel Aviv, especially in the early days of the war, delivered his talk, not a single person clapped.
The Israeli narrative had clearly crumbled, crashing to a thousand pieces. Indeed, Israel has never been so isolated. This is definitely not the āNew Middle Eastā that Netanyahu had prophesied in his UNGA talk on September 22.
Unable to fathom how the initial sympathy with Israel quickly turned into outright disdain, Israel resorted to old tactics.
On October 25, Erdan demanded the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to resign for being āunfit to lead the UNā. Guterresā supposedly unforgivable crime is suggesting that āthe attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuumā.
As far as Israel and its American benefactors are concerned, no context is allowed to taint the perfect image that Israel has created for its genocide in Gaza. In this perfect Israeli world, no one is allowed to speak of military occupation, of siege, of the lack of political prospect, of the absence of a just peace for Palestinians. [...]
Israel is no longer all-powerful, as it wants us to believe. Recent events have proven that Israelās āinvincible armyā ā a brand that allowed Israel to become, as of 2022, the worldās tenth-largest international military exporter ā turned out to be a paper tiger.
This is what is infuriating Israel the most. āMuslims are not afraid of us anymore,ā said former Knesset member, Moshe Feiglin, in an interview with Arutz Sheva-Israel National News. To restore this fear, the Israeli extremist politician has called for burning āGaza to ashes immediatelyā. [...]
The discussion should now return to where it should have always been ā the priorities of the oppressed not the oppressor.
It is time that we speak about Palestinian rights, Palestinian security and the Palestinian peopleās right, in fact obligation, to defend themselves.
It is time for us to speak about justice ā real justice ā the outcome of which is non-negotiable: equality, full political rights, freedom and the right of return.
Gaza has told us all of this, and much more. And it is time for us to listen.
Justice is Non-Negotiable: Why Israel Cannot Destroy Palestinian Resistance
āisrael is targeting hamasā
Israeli jets have targeted the family of the head of surgery in the Indonesian Hospital, Mohammad Al Rann, killing them all.
Al Jazeeraās correspondent Wael Dahdouhās wife, son, daughter and infant grandson killed.
Israeli warplanes have killed journalist Dua' Sharf and her child in a strike on her house in Gaza.
While she was working, doctor Sana'a Nour was informed that an Israeli airstrike killed her brother.
A Residential block is completely destroyed after being heavily bombed by Israeli warplanes in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
A mother lost her 6 children by an Israeli air strike that bombed Jabalia refugee camp, north of Gaza.
Palestinian elderly woman stuck amidst the rubble of her house bombed by lsraeli warplanes.
"We were a family of eight, four of us were killed and the other four were injured."
this was not over days, or weeks. this was all within 24 hours.
