I was raised Mormon and started investigating further in June of 2020

I am completely out after moving out on my own

I'm not super well researched, most of what I got out with was Exmormon YouTube (I have read the ces letter)

I'm pretty open to messaging and asks! i am bad at responding sometimes but i'll do my best!

This blog is much less active since I'm fully out. I'll post every once in a while but the church isn't as big of a part of my life as it used to be (thank god) so I just don't use this blog as much.

entirely possible, I've only watched it once and it was years ago, but the specific part I was remembering was how the teenage son was taught about abortion by his "bad influence" (not Mormon) friends and he's upset that his mom is having another kid, but the unborn kid like reaches out to him from heaven to plead with him to not tell his mom to abort her?? and their older disabled sister dies off screen to reunite with the unborn kid in heaven??? i have no idea, it's bad awful anti abortion shit and it guilt tripped me SO hard as a kid

Now that Holland’s dead, let’s all take a moment to remember the time he gave a talk at BYU about how upset he was that a gay kid came out during graduation a year earlier and then lowkey threatened queer people with violence. And then every Mormon I knew tried to insist this wasn’t malicious in any way. And then BYU started using that talk in their curriculum.

there's something deeply and uniquely hurtful about the cycle of abuse in cults I think. specifically in the type of cults that are generational like mine is.

a lot of cults burn really quick and fast, and die out in a few years, or a few decades, but the ones that last for generations screw up whole families and cultures of people in horrific ways.

trickle down abuse. multi level marketing abuse. my parents were not abusive. but they were, because they raised me in a cult. my parents were not abusive. but I was raised in a cult, which is in itself, inherently abusive. my parents chose to raise me said cult. but both of them were generational cult babies just like I was.

do I blame my parents? no... maybe.

It's way more complicated than anything I could ever answer. Can I blame them for how they hurt my siblings but not for how they hurt me? do I even blame them for how they hurt my siblings or am I just angry?

how can I rationalize the amount of trauma and baggage I carry, and will carry for the rest of my stupid fucking life, because of what they perpetuated?

and at the end of the day, I don't blame them. not really. but it's so much fucking easier if I do.

Do not allow the LDS Church to rebrand itself as some kind of harmless quirky church that just has a few silly rules. It’s a fucking cult that brainwashes its members and actively harms marginalized people. Mormonism deserves every ounce of hate it receives and then some
