People really be out here acting like it was Kimi Antonelli who seduced Toto into doing all this shit for him, but like...I truly believe Toto Wolff doesn't actually give a flying fuck about Kimi or even think he's that special. Not really.
See, I think it's clear that Toto's obsession with Kimi is about proving that he himself is a genius with a magical eye for talent. It's about proving that Toto was right all along for all the decisions he's made.
It's about Toto trying to make up for failing to recognize Max Verstappen's talent way back when and missing out on the driver of a generation and trying to undo that mistake 15+ years later.
Kimi is the chance to hit back at Horner and others. That's literally all he is.
Just look at the radio message after Kimi's first win:
"He's too young. We shouldn't put him in a Mercedes. Put him in a smaller team. He needs the experience. Look at the mistakes he makes.' Here we go, Kimi. Victory."
There's relief there, like this is validating everything Toto has been hoping for. The message isn't even about Kimi. Toto doesn't mention his drive, or anything about the race, or his skills, or congratulate him on a move or decision, nothing. Regardless of how you feel about how Kimi drove in that race, it's still strange that Wolff says nothing at all about it.
It's Kimi's first race win and Toto's message is only about how right he was. That says a lot.
And then, there's the press conference quotes from after that race:
"When things go bad, there are people who come out and say, 'That was a bad decision,' and 'Mercedes took too much risk.' And it was never really harsh criticism because people recognise the talent that he has..."
"But there were many voices within the sport and outside that said, 'That was a mistake to do.' So it's nice to have a little revanche."
It's very interesting that he focused so much on countering the perception that himself and Mercedes made a mistake and doesn't actually say anything of substance. Or anything about Kimi at all, actually.
And I would say that's because none of this is actually about Kimi.
And in another interview:
"Kimi has been a Mercedes driver since he was 11. Ferrari should have done the job six or seven years ago, instead of realizing now that they have a good Italian driver. Of course, they'll do everything to get an Italian driver."
Translation: I am right, I am a genius, I saw him before everyone else, look at how amazing I am.
And then there's the nonsense about Kimi being more educated than other drivers and all the incessant talk about how young he is (because that was the thing about Max). Toto can't do anything about the fact that Kimi is older than Max was when he first won, sure, but he can go for youngest WDC.
And all of that together means that, if Kimi isn't absolutely amazing - not just good, or decent, but completely incredible - after all the limbs Toto's gone out on for him...then everyone will know he made a mistake. Again. And he cannot have that.
And thus, the trash-talking of George. The delayed upgrades. The straight-up sabatoge. The fact that even Damon Hill thinks Mercedes is fucking with George's car.
Because Kimi has to be amazing. Not for himself, or because Toto cares about him, but so that Toto can be a genius with the ability to see the future.
Kimi is just a vessel for Toto's pride and validation, nothing more.
And that's honestly pretty fucked up.
You know, I'm really loving a lot of the 2026 grid. honestly, even more than some previous years.
But fucking hell, I do miss Seb.
That's it. Send tweet.
(oh, and OG Kimi too).
I swear to god, when I saw those pics of George and Alex on the pj with the engagement ring, I immediately thought "yeah, George is totally going to propose to Carmen this year too."
And I was right??
but honestly I'm not even surprised. this was obviously always gonna happen, it's just how George and Alex work tbh.
Oscar guessing the engines reminded me that George did something similar last year, so i put the two vids together - same vibes, two different nerds, I love it.
Hi, Russian citizen here: my language is not the "language of the oppressor" any more than English is, you dumb fucking twats.
"The sun never sets on the British empire," anyone??? Hello??
Yes, Putin and the Russian government are bad. No shit.
But fucking stop insulting the many, many Russians who have been killed or imprisoned or had to flee the country. Our language isn't oppressive, our government is. Fuck you.
Okay, so, to me, people hating on Kimi is mostly misplaced because:
-Yes, it's fucked up that he's being prioritized and given all this shit
-Yes, it's fucked that the team is screwing George over on his behalf
-Yes, it's fucked that Toto is trash talking GR and giving literal fake news praise about Kimi to the press
-Yes, it's fucked up that Toto is sucking his dick so hard, and it's fucking obnoxious to see that happen in races and glazing him in press conferences and every other fucking place
But!
No matter how much Kimi might've wanted that, he didn't make it happen. He could've begged and whined and done whatever the fuck all day long and it wouldn't matter. He's barely been an adult for five minutes, he only has the power Toto gives him. Which is exactly the problem.
And sure, Kimi is whiny and annoying sometimes. Yes, he says dumb shit sometimes. Obviously. He's immature and has people stoking his ego all day. That was gonna happen. I actually think he could be way worse, considering that he's being treated like a literal prince.
But he couldn't treat himself like a prince. That's on the people around him, primarily Toto.
And the fucked up thing is that at this rate Toto is going to end up making people hate Kimi more than they already do, and there's a good chance he's setting him up for failure too, because let's face it, if Toto wasn't sandbagging GR63, or if Red Bull or McLaren actually had a competitive car this year, Kimi would not be leading the WDC. So what happens when that changes? Is he gonna be ready to deal with it? Who knows, but Toto certainly hasn't set him up for success in that regard. He's making the kid think he's a god, and no matter how good he is, he's not one.
And favor changes like the wind. He can't be Toto's golden boy forever - he's not the first and won't be the last. There will always be someone new and younger coming up. How will he handle that? No idea.
I don't know what's gonna happen with him, obviously, but right now, I don't think Kimi is the villain here, I think it's pretty obvious who the real villain actually is.
Princess George 👸
if Max retires or leaves Red Bull, we bout to see the most vicious game of musical chairs since Time Began
Right about now Oscar's prolly wishing he put his elbow into Sainz's nose on that fanstage while he had the chance
You know what really pissed me off during the race???
Lando saying on the radio that he is clearly faster than Oscar and that he should let him through
Bro, if you're faster than him just overtake him.!!!!
Oscar deserves so much better. He needs to be rid of this fucking shitshow team and fucking Norris, blehhhhhhhhh
I hate this.
Fuck.
Should've known hungary would suck 😒
"Thats maybe what happened to Oscar's car"?? Uh what?? Did you forget that Sainz happened??
Ugh
No, Oscar....
Fuuuuuck you McLaren. Also Sainz, can't defend you today, get out of my sight
