*Drops my alternative assignment color guard final at your feed, aka the concept idea for a marching band show based off the story of Icarus, copy-pasted from my doc under the cut, with all links added at the bottom in order*

To the Sun

Theme: A “retelling” of Icarus, this show is to show about the dangers of overachieving, too much pride, and not listening to advice. (Like Icarus, who forgot his father’s words and flew too close to the sun.)

To interlace through the show: Icarus by The Crane Wives for the pit (instrumental)

Movement 1: “Escaping Entrapment”

Music: Unchained Melody by Ronald Smeets

Mood: Negative, trapped in, and at the very end (the escape) it gets positive and uplifting.

Big moment: at the end (of the mov), the band holds while the guard runs through the labyrinth, highlighting the path to escape.

Drill: Start in a maze with the guard all split up in little “sections”, and as the maze is moving, guard finds each other, then runs though it all as it finally turns into a labyrinth. Props do not move, but the band is between them, because I drew the first drill idea smaller than the other (by accident, it’s actually supposed to be bigger) so it looks like they moved. They did not. Props will be on the 20 and 20 respectively, and then the band will fill in from the 25 to the 25 at the end.

fun fact!! Mazes are a puzzle with dif ends and such, while a labyrinth is all one twisting path from the center out!!!! The labyrinth in the story of Icarus is actually described as a maze!!

Movement 2: “The freedom of flight”

Music: Waltz of the Flowers (end at 1:37ish/after the crescendo in the music)

Mood: this freeing feeling, very joyous and hopeful.

Big moments: A solo moment for someone (trombone??) at the timestamp 1:13-1:21 in the music we are already doing for this mov.

Drill: Many, many circles and loops, much flowing movements, very little bits of “stiffness” within it. Instead of pictures on the field, make the field flow with the music too.

Movement 3: “To the sun”

Music: Saber Dance by Khachaturian

Mood: This is the big ol dramatic moment where we finally get too close to the sun, and are going to fall.

Big moments: The sun rises out from behind the wings during the hold, where there will be a crescendo then pose.

Drill: The band will, at the end, split in half and go away from the 50 (towards the 30 on each side as much as possible)

Movement 4: “The fall”

Music: Symphony no. 6 by Tschaikowsky

Mood: this is where Icarus plummets to his death. This is dark, moody, sad, and ends in grievance.

Big moments: Battle Cry trombone(??) solo moment with the rest of the band “replying” ( approx 6:25-7:14) at the end. The guard will have a dance and flag part, where the people spinning will throw their flags to the dancers then “collapse” (safely fall to the ground) and the dancers will catch the flags, spin another 16(ish) counts, then the show ends.

Drill: there will be people on props duty (esp guard doubles!! That will be SO helpful!!) that will spread the props away from the 50 and towards the 10, and this will be where the props split apart into 16 total pieces. The band will face the front with all their blue, horns towards the 50, in a block formation like below, marching forward before the hold at the end.

Guard will be behind them in two lines forming two arches, where the final hold I mentioned above will happen. The front row will be the guard throwing their flags at the back row. The two in the middle (on the 50) can have a lil duo moment :D

Guard design:

Flags: First movement will be a 7ft flag with a brown pole and a brown and red silk. Second movement will split off into rifle line and swing flag. Rifles(guard equipment, not real!!) will be taped yellow and red, and the swing flags will be reminiscent of the wing props. Third movement will be all 6ft flags, with a yellow-orange pole and a matching flag representing the sun. Fourth movement will also be 6ft, but the flag will be teal and red-orange at the top, representing the fall into the Agrean sea.

Props: Icarus’ wings turning into the sun.

Drawings attached, but the wings (what is visible for the majority of the show, both separate and have a “half sun” and has locks to keep the parts of the wings that become the rays from rotating, and keeps the sun from falling once risen. Rises with the slowly rising sound from the band, and is fully up at the crescendo at the end of 3. During 4, the wings fall apart into “sun rays.” Lil doodle of the mechanisms behind it bc I literally cannot explain it with my words. I did not do full color for this, mostly because my brown pen and highlighter has gone off and stopped working properly and I cannot deal with them anymore. They are driving me insane. I drew one of two wings, but it is just the same design flipped for the second wing. It is supposed to be browns, I just did most of it in pencil.

Bonus part: Costumes!! The idea hit me hard and I had to draw it!! There is a masc and fem version. The costume is an (about) skin tone under part, all with a slightly “glittery” look (gold sparkle to it), and a flowy top (skin tone) with faux wings that will tie to the gloves. The bottoms will be a red skort or shorts. Pants will be tight or straight. (In images, the fem version is the top and the masc version is the bottom.) Show hair is a ponytail (at whatever spot comfy for the person) or down if hair is too short to put in a ponytail. Ponytail has red ribbon around it to match the bottoms. Two layers: Bottom layer being made up of a thin cotton-polyester fabric and covered by a nylon organza (example of the fabric, no accurate color to uniform since I cannot find it again sadly) fabric for this glittery effect without coating everyone with glitter. Top la yer being a challis fabric in red and appropriate skin tones. The red being the short/skort, the skin tones being the top and wings. Wings: They're sewn onto the top, and have a gradient from an off white to a brown (I messed up my drawing of it, both sets of wings are supposed to be brown.) They have a one-inch long split at the ends to allow them to tie onto the gloves, and can be cut a lil longer if needed, but make sure to hem it so it doesn't start fraying, challis is prone to it due to its structure.

please know I'm in bed TWEAKING bc I love this so much. Shadow is someone I absolutely see liking mlp and pretending to not, like he gotta keep that tough guy persona up somehow.

Me personally, I see him starting it because of Cream and he'd watch it with her as he babysat, then he started watching it on his own.

(Also, his favorite is Fluttershy because she reminds him of Maria.)

(And his least favorite is Rainbow Dash because she reminds him of that "insufferable blue disgrace of a hedgehog")(he secretly doesn't mind them both)

Not too bad doodles for my ocs, Flint and Bea, who asked eachother out Valentine's day the previous year!! This was their cards!! (Flint made Bea the Shadow card bc she had a HUGE Shadow the Hedgehog hyperfixation at the moment, and Bea made him the shooting star one because he loves history (and thereof the stars) and both could have in some way been played off as a joke or something just in case)(Shadow Valentine WITH PERMISSION used from gartygoodies on tiktok!!)

the trials happen the week of their 1 year 8 month anniversary, and since Valentine's day is tomorrow for me I figured it would be fitting

God of creativity's wings, pre and post war

Their wings are built for high speeds and sustaining said speeds for a long time, however due to injury they had to get a chunk of their wings amputated.

The chunk that got amputated got rid of their spare section of primaries.

It was loose the section of risk loosing their wings.

(Spoilers: not medically accurate to this day and age or any day and age I know of)
