[IMG ID: A comic depicting Sonic and Shadow lying in the grass, having a conversation. Both are humanized, Sonic is roboticized.
Sonic: Don’t you have anything better to do?
Shadow: No. I’m a weapon without a war to fight. I no longer have a purpose, so I may as well lie here and become one with the dirt.
Sonic: Bullshit. You finally have a chance to choose what to do with your life, and you’re just gonna lie here and brood?
Shadow: Correct. This way I can be sure I won’t harm anyone, nor burden my friends and family.
Sonic: You’re not a burden, dumbass! People care about you, and you’re not a bad person for needing help for once. Especially when the alternative is spending every waking moment thinking about how much you hate yours—
Sonic has a sudden realization. End ID.]
The newly-freed Robians have a lot to grapple with, and someone (and I’m not naming names here) may or may not be having an especially hard time. Shadow is not usually great with heart-to-hearts, but they are an expert with this particular flavor of existential dread—and with being too proud to ask for support when it’s needed.
