we've been saying "trans rights" instead of "good night" and we guess it's the best thing we've done
a while back we had this realization that “trans rights” and “good night” have basically the same length, so… we started saying “trans rights” instead of “good night”.
and like… it’s nothing. other trans ppl think we’re weird, it likely has no effect on how ppl see trans ppl, it’s basically nothing. and yet… why not, we guess?
it somehow helps us feel happier and more comfortable. literally, in the worst of days, we feel kinda… awkward about saying it, but even then, it kinda becomes the highlight of our day. we can have the crappiest day and saying “trans rights o/” when we go sleep can lift us up a little.
it matters to us and we guess that’s why we do it.
actually we suppose we could add a bit more to this:
we had that realization while we were panicking about anti-trans violence back in late march, around TDOV.
the real reason we do this is because we believe it to be an effective way to push back against the kind of anti-trans violence we keep seeing. especially if more ppl did it.
it’s a harmless silly thing, but as with any symbol it holds so much power behind it.
so yeah. our only request is that other folks should consider doing it too.
