He chuckled. “Wong always says I’m as stubborn as you…so I’m not surprised.” He said, shifting his position in his chair. “Usually with annoyance, to be perfectly honest.”
So they had met when his father was with the Ancient One…that made sense. He didn’t quite know why Wong had decided to come for him, but that was a question for him for another day. He contemplated the question he received before answering. “I know it’s selfish, and sounds slightly worrying but I promise I don’t mean this in a bad way. I like having power and control. I never had that before, so having it now, it’s freeing, in a way, and opened up a whole new world; multiple worlds to me..” he admitted.
“You know what, I’m going to ask you the same thing. What’s your favourite thing about magic?” He asked, curious now.
“It can sound worrying; but I believe I understand what you mean.” Stephen too had enjoyed the sense of control he’d felt after he’d lost the use of his hands, lost his entire life and career. But that had not been what had drawn him in so completely. He considered the question with care, turning it over in his head before he finally answered, “The challenge. Before I learned of magic, I had always been involved with things which came naturally to me. I picked up on things quickly, and I was often the best at what I did because I would throw myself completely into it. Magic... it did not just... click the way other things did. It took months before I could manage even the simplest tasks, and years before I could delve into anything more difficult. It was completely new to me, knowledge I could soak up, and did, and yet it was still a struggle. Often it still is, I must always find new and creative ways to think... After I discovered magic, so much of the rest of the world became dull in comparison.”
Absently, he peered down at his scarred hands, moving and flexing his fingers. The tremble had never fully gone away, not in all those years, and sometimes they even still ached. “What are you most proud of in your life?”
