✨🌱Stinging Nettle🌱✨
✨Botanical Latin: Urtica dioica
✨Habitat: Waste spaces, moist soil
✨Growth Habit: Perennial, 6’+ tall at maturity. Flowers in mid-late summer
✨Parts Used: Leaves and tops most often. Roots and seeds can be used as well.
✨Harvesting: Always wear thick gloves and cover your skin! Young leaves and tops - harvest before the plant flowers. See ‘cautions’ below. Roots - in the fall, after most of the energy has returned to the root from the plant. This plant is abundant, but as it’s a perennial, remember to leave at least 75% of the plants to repopulate the area.
✨Energetics and Taste: Cool, dry, salty
Physical and Medicinal
✨Biochemical Constituents: chlorophyll, insoles (histamine, serotonin,) acetylcholine, silicic acid, vitamins C, B and A, silicon, calcium, magnesium, potassium, protein, fiber, iron.
✨Actions:
All parts - Alterative, whole body and liver tonic, (fresh leaves) anti-histamine, slightly diuretic, astringent, hemostatic, galactogogue, expectorant, nutrative.
Root - Anti-lithic, diuretic
✨Indications:
Leaves & Tops - arthritis, rheumatism, asthma, eczema, other skin eruptions, bleeding, low energy, stopped urine, urinary gravel, kidney and bladder infections, edema, enlarged prostate, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Freeze dried leaves: sinus infection. Proven effective, but must be freeze dried.
Seed: prostate and kidney disorders
Root: Prostate issues, urinary tract gravel/stones, stopped urination
✨Contraindications: Use in more restricted amounts when pregnant or breastfeeding, but it doesn’t have to be avoided all together. Don’t use with children under 2 years old. Use caution with children and the elderly. *
✨Medicinal Uses:
- One of the most popular herbs for nourishing herbal infusions. Rotate between nettles, oat straw, and linden for a good variety of nutrients.
- Good for the voice (folk-medicine, song of the sea)
- Relieve the sting by rubbing the juice of dock (rumex crispus) leaves on the sting. See folk traditions below.
- To aid in circulation and inflammation/joint issues like arthritis, sting the area (lightly) occasionally with nettles and let it sting, without using dock to relieve it.
- It’s popular in soups and as a potherb/cooked green. Once it’s cooked or dried, it loses its sting. I like to use it in any dish that I’d use spinach in.
- It has been used to slow postpartum bleeding.
✨Preparations and Dosage:
- Nourishing Herbal Infusion - One quart boiled water to one ounce of dried leaves/tops (or a little more by weight if using fresh leaves.) Steep in a mason jar with the lid on for at least 20 minutes, up to overnight. Strain and enjoy within 3-4 days of making it. Drink up to 1 quart/day but rotate between a few different herbs to get a variety of nutrients.
- Dry plant material by weight - 9-30g
- Capsules - 2 “00” size filled with powdered herb, 3 times a day
- Tincture - 10-60 drops, 1-4 times a day
✨Cautions: Do not ingest the leaves or tops after the plant has flowered or else risk causing a UTI.
Magical and Traditional
✨Elements: Primary - 🔥Fire – Secondary - 🌱Earth
✨Planet: Mars, secondary Mercury
✨Other Correspondences:
-All Parts: protections, warding, voice, communication, bind a spell, bring courage, prevent being struck by lightning, notice the things that often go unseen, mindfulness.
-Roots: banishing, curse breaking, relieving pain
-The leaves and tops after the plant has flowered: causing pain, sending a curse back, banishing, make someone’s oversight/willful ignorance come back to bite them
✨Folk Traditions:
- To soothe the sting, find some dock which usually grows nearby (rumex crispus,) grab a handful and squeeze some juice out. As you rub the juice onto the nettle sting, recite:
Nettle out, Dock in // Dock remove the nettle sting Nettle, nettle, come out // Dock, go in!
✨Specific Uses:
- The infusion is grounding and very earth centred. I feel like It may be connected to my Mother Goddess of the lake lands in Ontario.
- Use fresh tops (either before or after flowering depending on your need) to sprinkle cleansing or banishing or curse breaking (etc) water or to waft smoke. Make sure to wear gloves, of course.
- Use the dried or cooked leaves/tops to ’take the sting’ out of something or someone.

What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, don’t ever buy it, don’t own it, don’t even look at it.
Look, y’all. There’s a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesn’t count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isn’t just you “shouldn’t”— this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! We’re here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
I’m tired of this nonsense, y’all.

The Cosmic-Healer's Self Care Potion☕️
This is a recipe I’ve perfected over the course of a few months and am excited to share with you! As the title says this is a Self Care Potion, and I use ingredients corresponding to Venus and the Sun when making this. The purpose of this potion is to help you restore lost energy after particularly intense workings/rituals, soothe you after a bad day, or as just a little pick-me-up. You decide!
Ingredients~
☕️1 ½ C Almond Milk (or any kind you have on hand)
☕️Three spoonfuls of Brown Sugar
☕️Two capfuls of Vanilla
☕️A dash of Cinnamon
☕️A dash of Pumpkin Pie Spice
☕️A dash of Cardamom
(Note: you can substitute the spices listed for anything on hand you think would add a nice magical kick to the drink; I would stick with only three though.)
1) Measure out the milk, and pour it into a small saucepan on medium-low heat.
2) Keep it on that heat level and stir–you want it heated evenly, not burned. While stirring, I recommend really focusing on your intentions and stirring the Venus and Sun symbols into the milk.
3) Once the milk is starting to bubble lightly at the edges or steam (whichever comes first), it’s time to add the Brown Sugar. Stir thoroughly into the milk.
4) Next, add the Vanilla. Stir thoroughly into the milk.
5) Finally, add your spices. Stir into the milk, until they’re somewhat dissolved.
6) Take off the heat; serve immediately. Makes one big mugful.
I hope this is able to aid you all!! I know it helps me when things get rough.
I just got done making this. I was hesitant with the cardamom. But it’s AMAZING. I tasted it after every step so I’d know what I did, and didn’t like. And it just kept getting better. I love it.

Black Salt
Black Salt is used for cursing, protection, banishing, cleansing, breaking spells or hexes, and repelling negative energy. Black salt is made by combining either activated charcoal or ashes from burned herbs or incense with sea salt.
Using activated charcoal will actually make your salt a dark black color, whereas using ashes will turn it into a lighter grey color.
Depending on what you plan to use black salt for, you can add different types of ash or other ingredients that correspond with your intent.
Ashes from various herbs and incenses for black salt:
Basil - banishing, protection, spell-breaking
Cedarwood - cleansing, protection
Cypress - protection
Dragon’s blood - cleansing, protection, cursing, banishing
Frankincense - cleansing, protection, spell-breaking
Mullein - protection (especially for acts of magick involving spirit work)
Rosemary - cleansing, banishing
Rue - banishing, cursing, protection, spell-breaking
Sage - cleansing, protection, banishing
Sandalwood - cleansing, protection
Thyme - cleansing, banishing
Tobacco - banishing, cursing
Valerian - protection
Wormwood - cursing, protection, spell-breaking
Other ingredients you can add to black salt:
Black pepper - cleansing, banishing, cursing, protection
Cayenne pepper - banishing, cursing, protection
Chili powder - banishing, cursing, spell-breaking
Garlic salt - banishing, cleansing, spell-breaking
Iron shavings (like from the bottom of your cauldron or a cast-iron pot or pan) - protection
Nutmeg - protection, spell-breaking
Onion salt - banishing, spell-breaking
Making black salt:
Combine the ingredients and grind together using a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder, or herb grinder
Using black salt:
Add to spell jars or sachets
Sprinkle in areas around your home to create a barrier
Create a circle of protection before performing spells
Keep a container of black salt under your bed or pillow to prevent nightmares or bad dreams
Add to a jar to create a Negativity Trap
If using skin-safe components and ingredients, make a facial scrub or mask for cleansing
Anoint objects with black salt
Add to a container of War Water (especially if your black salt contains iron shavings)
Sprinkle a small amount on a neighbor’s lawn to make them want to move
Add some to a hollow pendant and wear to deflect negativity
Sprinkle on items that hold bad or negative memories to cleanse them
Add a line of black salt in front of doorways and windows to keep out negative energy and spirits or entities
Add a pinch to homemade floor washes for cleansing
Use to symbolize the waning, new, and dark moon; or Saturn and Pluto

Homemade Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts
I feel like, as a beginner witch, everybody talks about how rose quartz is powerful and useful for so many things. But, why doesn't anybody talk about amethyst, like I find it even more useful :')
DIY Magical Shower Disks
So you have seen our lovely bath magic spells but you cannot take a bath. Maybe you don’t have a bath in your current residence, maybe you are physically unable to use bathtubs, maybe you’re just super stretched for time but want to get in some extra magical umph. Recreational Witchcraft is here for you.
Shower disks are traditionally used in the aromatherapy world to relieve congestion and other flu-symptoms while showering via the use of essential oils, but we will be bumping up their magical potential.
Basic recipe:
1 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon corn starch
1/3 cup of water
Muffin tins and muffin liners
Combine baking soda and corn starch (making sure there are no clumps), then slowly add in the water. Fill lined muffin tins about third of the way, then leave out for 24 hours to dry completely. Carefully take them out of the liners, add your essential oils, and place your disk somewhere in your shower that will allow them to dissolve slowly while you do your business. Bam. You’re done.
Now onto the magic. All dry ingredients (herbs, spices, etc) should be added in with the baking soda and corn starch before the water is added. All essential oils should be added right before they’re used (so when they’re completely dry).
Cleansing and Purifying:
essential oil of rosemary
essential oil of lemongrass
dried peppermint leaves
dried lemon rinds
dried rosemary
Protection:
essential oil of lavender
essential oil of eucalyptus
dried basil leaves
dried lavender flowers
pinch of ground cloves
Glamour:
essential oil of sweet orange
essential oil of rose
essential oil of jasmine
crushed red rose petals
pinch of (body safe) glitter
Attracting Love:
vanilla extract
essential oil of jasmine
essential oil of ylang ylang
apple seeds
1 lavender flower
pinch of cinnamon
Attracting Money:
essential oil of patchouli
essential oil of juniper berry
dried mint leaves
dried thyme
pinch of allspice
WITCHES NEED A SECRET SYMBOL FOR SAFE PLACES
So a lot of us are out of the broom closet so to speak, but many of have to be careful of being public because of the views of the communities we live in. What I propose is a symbol we can put on flyers or in shop windows that means “You’re safe here.”
I don’t believe that a pentagram would work because it’s got so much stigma attached and it’s really easily identifiable. Ideally, we can find something that is not tradition specific. I don’t know. I just want us to be able to put feelers out into the community without painting a target on ourselves for intolerant jerk faces, and I want witchlings that are seeking guidance to be able to do so in a safe environment. I mean, how badass would it be to find a little symbol of solidarity in your favorite coffee shop or bookstore??
Reblog with suggestions!
A witches’ foot. It has been used historically like this.
In one of the grimoires I’ve read through, it references this being a secret sign to mark on sacred spaces for the group.
Love it, passing it around. Will be wearing it and hanging it at my house and teashop once I own one.
♡ Salt ♡
Now there are different kinds of salt you can use in your craft, but that begs the question: what kind should I use? So I decided to create this post so you can refer it to, write this in your grimoire or BOS, for when you need to include salt in a spell but don’t know what kind to use.
Table Salt
Table salt is the least expensive of all other salt, as well as the most basic. Typically table salt is used home cleansings and purification. It can also be used for protection circles. if it is the only kind you have, it can be used to replace other salts depending on the intent.
Sea Salt
Sea salt is made by evaporting salt water, and thus contains minerals like potassium, iron, copper, silicon, and more. The lighter the salt, the lighter amount of minerals. Sea salt being related to the sea, is favored by those who prefer to use the sea/ocean in their magick. Sea salt is best for cleansing baths and purification. Primarily when it is emotional purification which needs to be done.
Himalayan Pink Salt
Himalayan pink salt is known for it’s color, a lovely soft shade of pink. It is connected to Earth, and specifically great for astral projection and spirit work. When himalyan pink salt is out, it absorbs psychic energy however when burned/heated it releases that energy. This can be great for providing a boost for a spell, or your own power in general.
Celtic Sea Salt
Celtic sea salt is known for being popularized in France, and has a light grey color in comparision to other salts. Due to the low amount of sodium in celtic sea salt, it considered to best for kitchen witchcraft.
Black Salt
Black salt as known for it’s name is black, and can be created when salt is mixed with ash or by being mixed with cocount ash. When it is mixed with coconut ash, this allowed it to be edible, and thus used for kitchen witchcraft. However, when it is not edible it is best used for protection against negativity.

Beltane Tips!
* Wear lots of green
* Have a bonfire and fill it with fragrant incense, flowers, and sacred woods
* Bake tiny colorful cookies (with flowers, if you can!) and offer them to your local fae
* The veil is the thinnest this time of year - the only other time it’s this thin is during Samhain. Venerate and honor the spirits, and guard against malicious ones with salt along your windowsills or doors
* Wash your face with the morning dew to fill yourself with beauty
* Eat sexually suggestive foods or aphrodisiacs
* Dance. Dance a LOT. Turn on some drum-heavy music and let loose. Do it alone in your room at night, if you have to.
* Go talk to all your local plants and give them little offerings of water. Blessed water charged with a quartz crystal would be extra nice.
* Do a tarot reading for yourself (or have someone else do it for you). This is a wonderful time of year for divination!
* Buy flowers. Pick flowers. Wear flowers. BE FLOWERS.
* You don’t have to have sex to have a legitimate Beltane, but you can always show yourself some love if ya know what I mean *wink wink*
* This is a holiday of sensual pleasure. That doesn’t necessarily mean sex - it means really indulge your senses. Take a hot, luxurious bath. Dance until you work up a sweat. Eat foods that you love and crave. Smell the flowers, feel your bare feet in the grass, splash your face with fresh water. FEEL the world around you - the spirits are alive and active on Beltane! Engage your emotional, intuitive, sensual side and you might catch a glimpse of one or two.
* Reach out to friends you haven’t talked to in awhile. Strike up a friendly conversation. Celebrate friendship!
* Meditate with crystals that open your third-eye or specifically relate to the fairy or devic realms - chlorite phantom quartz, moss agate, rainforest jasper, green diopside, spirit quartz, azeztulite, most green crystals, prehnite, a rock you found someplace outdoors that feels charged with earth energy - you choose!
* Perform solitary spells for abundance, protection, fertility, romance, love, sex, and divination!
* Plant seeds and start a magickal garden. There are lots of plants you can grow indoors pretty easily that have magickal properties.
* Dedicate an altar to Flora, Cernunnos, Bes, Pan, Hera, etc - any deity you can think of who rules fertility, marriage, romance, and abundance!
Hope you all have a wonderful Beltane!!!

Cursing - fill a poppet with baneful herbs and crystals, seal it, and store in a black box; add baneful herbs and crystals to a jar with a piece of paper that states the target’s name or a description of them and seal it; create a poppet or other representation of the target and destroy it (commonly by burning); stab the poppet with pins and needles; curse an item and gift it to the target
Dreams & Sleep - fill a sachet with herbs associated with restful sleep and peaceful dreams and hang above your bed; place the sachet under your pillow; wash your bedsheets and sleep clothes with a few drops of lavender or chamomile essential oil; alternately, choose fabric softener that is lavender scented to wash your sheets or sleep clothes with; create a sigil for peaceful dreams or dream recall, charge under the light of the moon, and place it under your pillow before you go to sleep; drink mugwort, peppermint, or valerian root tea before bed for vivid, lucid dreams; drink chamomile tea before bed for restful sleep; drink lemon verbena (vervain) tea before bed for dreamless sleep; when bathing at night, create a sachet that matches your intent and place in the bath or shower
Glamours - anoint the containers of beauty and hair products with Pluto oil or moon water (for transformation and metamorphosis); leave the item you wish to cast a glamour on under the full moon; charge a talisman with the effect you wish to have on others and wear when you go out for the day; add Pluto oil and moon water to a bath for a full body glamour (write your intent with bath crayons on the tub or shower wall for an extra boost); create an energetic shield over yourself in which the outside mirrors what you want others to perceive of you
Goal & Wish Manifestation - write your intent on a bay leaf and burn it; turn your intent into a sigil and store it in a jar filled with herbs or other items that represent said intent; place a written description of your goal or wish in the center of a crystal grid using stones that are associated with manifestation and power; place a coin in moon water while focusing on your wish or goal (leave container under direct moonlight overnight so that it may charge); light a candle whose color matches your intent and while focusing on your goal or wish, blow out the candle
Personal Power & Effects - create or enchant a talisman that represents your intent, charge it, and wear it on your person; take a ritual bath filled with herbs that are associated with personal power; create a potion from herbs associated with power and drink in the morning
Warding - sprinkle a mixture of protective herbs around the perimeter of your home while walking clockwise; leave protective crystals at each corner of your space; hang a protective amulet above the door to your space; wear a protective amulet for personal protection; create a protective witch bottle and bury near your front door; plant herbs or flowers that are associated with protection outside at each corner of your home; draw a protective sigil or symbol on the outside of your front and back door with sun water; hang witch balls or a witch’s ladder near your front door; create an energetic shield and place over yourself, your loved ones, or your entire home
*Please be wary when drinking herbal mixtures and putting essential oils directly on the skin or on items that your skin may come in contact with*
