He was falling. He doesn’t know anything but the feeling of air whipping past him, falling, falling, falling. When did his eyes close? He doesn’t know, but he can’t seem to get them open.
The scream of his name, from that voice, gives him the strength he needs to pry his eyes open. It’s all blurry, but he can see someone reaching for him. His clothes whip in the wind. He realizes the boy falling abode him is shirtless, but he’s dazed and doesn’t realize why yet. He thinks the silver hair is pretty, and that the giant double-key he’s holding is dangerous. He reaches for it, and the other’s outstretched hand gropes for his. They’re a little bit too far apart. He doesn’t know how to help, his body is weak. He can’t force his arms and legs straight, he can barely move at all.
The area around them is surrounded by sudden darkness. He can only see the boy, who’s still reaching for him.
He grabs him, and pulls him in tightly, hugging him close.
“I’m here. I’ve got you, Sora. I promise.”
The reassurance is nice. He hides his face in the warm shoulder, wondering when he’d become himself again. He remembers the last 10 years, but it wasn’t truly him in control. He was influenced by Ventus too much, that wasn’t really him outside the kindness.
Water splashes, and he feels weightless. The warm hands pull him above the water, making him gasp for breath. He blinks once, twice, three times, and his vision is clear. Instinct kicks in, and he follows the boy – Riku, he now realizes – out of the pond. Once they’re both on dry land, Sora spins to Riku, looking him over. He blushes, seeing the boy shirtless, but Riku just pulls him in for a tight hug. Sora startles, but gently hugs him back.
He can’t reach Sora. The boy won’t wake up, as the wind whips his clothes around, as Riku feels the cold wind against his chest. He grips the χ-blade tightly in his other hand, ignoring it but keeping ahold of the powerful weapon.
He screams his friend’s name, and Sora finally opens his eyes. Even from this far away, Riku can tell he’s dazed. He doesn’t fully recognize him. But Sora still reaches out a hand, and Riku tries to grab it. He can’t reach, they’re still too far apart. Riku pulls his body a little closer.
They're suddenly surrounded by darkness, but Sora’s light glows steadily. Riku can’t help a smile at the sight of his friend, his light still so bright. He finally manages to catch the boy, hugging him closer with both arms, careful not to hurt him. He puts his face against Sora’s fluffy hair.
“I’m here. I’ve got you, Sora. I promise.”
He’s not sure that Sora can hear him, but he feels the other hide his face against his chest, and he holds the boy closer. They fall into a pond, and Riku is quick to grab Sora and pull him above water as he surfaces himself. Sora gasps for breath when he breaks through, eyes so much clearer, Riku panting as well. They swim to the edge of the pond in the Depths they've fallen to, and only then does Sora get a proper look at Riku. Riku’s still holding the χ-blade in his other hand. He grins when Sora blushes a deep red upon realizing he’s shirtless, but pulls him in for a tight hug. He’s startled by it, but hugs him back easily.
