Cortinarius Iodes for Funguary🔮
there are many young merfolk out there, so i felt the desire to create a badass elder for mermay :) she’s as much derived from as she is dedicated to the vuvalini of MMFR– i also sincerely hope she brings joy to my mutuals older than me who always delight and inspire me, and to all older women in fandom, really, who i continuously thought of while working on her
i hope it’s obvious but just in case: she’s beluga / inuit. and yes, a name and backstory eventually developed! haha
oh y’all this is my first non-fanart piece to break 1k notes and i’m SO excited it’s enthusiasm for this design in particular! thank you; i’m so relieved and encouraged by the warm responses 🙏🏻💙
i ADORE this merfolk lady. Because she has a beluga tail, she is of my people. I come from the frigid waters of the Saguenay river, where the Belugas live. I am of her tribe. She is my Elder. My great grandmother many times removed.
this is making some rounds again so i need to reiterate: thank you so much to every first nations commenter. your feedback of feeling respectfully represented and excited is my measure of genuine success for this piece.
no offense but all the pictures of the eclipse i've seen today are really boring here are the ones my astrophotographer boyfriend took

Crystal display boxes are little scenes I made, with spots that you can place you’re favorite crystals to display in a fun and unique way.
Crystal display boxes with and without crystals. Arrange your crystals how you want, display them in a fun and unique way.

The amount of people deeply worried that Gods will judge or get mad at them for their offerings or mundane activities is disheartening.
I know most of this must stem from catholic guilt, but honestly, I grew up in a catholic household where leaving votive offerings to saints was normal. Everything was fair play to offer: from a shitty drawing from a 3yo, to old clothes (it was normal to see old baby shoes or pacifiers). Candles, prayers, songs, plastic or natural flowers, letters, photos, cigarettes. You could see anything! Most of the times we didn't had anything to give so we just would go to church and help clean the place.
It's no different here.
Gods will not hate you for giving water, tea, soda or whatever instead of wine.
Gods will not curse you because you got distracted while praying, or got nervous, or didn't learn every single word of the hymn by memory and read it instead.
They will not smithe you because you didn't hit the right notes while singing or because you missed the note on your instrument.
You gave them something out of love and respect and that's what matters.
And that goes for any religion I can think of, really.
