Microsoft’s flat-pack stockfutures
For the first time ever, Microsoft HoloLens seamlessly blends high-definition holograms with your real world. Holograms will improve the way you do things every day, and enable you to do things you’ve never done before.
Yeah, right… Microsoft has a long corporate design fiction history. This is not a bad thing, don’t get me wrong. I’m a big fan of design-based futures work & Microsoft has enough money to produce beautiful short videos with a lot of clicks, likes and +1. Kudos. I would like to attend. But most (all) of those corporate flat-pack "Visions of the Future" futures are thin, shiny, high-res and self-promotional futurism that only fetishized the company’s technology. A glossy ad-world, that no one buys. Noah Raford calls this "the commercial equivalent of Asperger’s Syndrome" and I agree.
Point is: These futures are broken. They show a "disrupted" vision (also from their corporate marketing pov because you have to disrupt to survive - tough times, go bold), that makes us all victims of well-designed corporate future plans. Don’t buy them. The future is not for sale.
Here’s another new video from Microsoft about a huge smart touchscreen on which you can draw circles with marker pens to unlock the power of the group. No shit. Obey!
And here’s another one, looking at the possibilities of 3D hologram virtual augmented holographic reality glasses:
Welcome to the future!

I agree. They show us many features that will never really be used.
Facebook vs Twitter - which are you on more?
Read a great blog post about where each social website excels: http://pando.com/2014/02/06/facebook-vs-twitter-who-wins-the-battle-for-our-social-attention/ Facebook seems to be more useful to me. I use them both, but how many of you use one more than the other? Thanks in advance if you reply!

No, I’m not a YC alumni nor have I been accepted (yet?); however, the application process alone has certainly been a valuable experience. About a month ago me and my two other cofounders formed and began working on our prototype while preparing the YC application. At 7:55pm last night, after a...

How about a watch/iPod hybrid? Sounds like iWatch to me!
I think Apple will do extremely well with the iWatch if they market it has a watch and iPod hybrid... it will sell just as well as the iPod. Everybody will always love their iPod. Heck, I still use my iPod nano! :)

I recently encountered, thanks to a weekly python newsletter, the open-source project Zipline, which is the backtesting engine for the algorithmic trading development website Quantopian. It gave me a great opportunity to illustrate, in a small way, the deceptive attraction (and, in a way,...
Thumbtack vs Amazon Selling Services
I recently became involved with Thumbtack, a website for selling your personal services to people either locally or over the web. I have a lot of faith in the website, as it's been working great for me so far.
Amazon recently debuted a beta version of a similar service that they are calling "Selling Services." I really think this is the new way of doing things, and Amazon has caught on to this as well. We'll see how it turns out, as it isn't widely available in the Midwest yet.
Here is a great article on TechCrunch about Selling Services:

New song by Beta State! Great singer and passionate voice. Kind of reminds me of Red and Nural.
CD Review: Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness (10/14/2014)
I’m excited to review Andrew McMahon’s new project “Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness.” It’s his first full-length release as a solo artist after the release of his EP “The Pop Underground” on 4/30/2013.
5/5 Stars
Track Listing
Canyon Moon - A very dancey, pulsing song with a nice beat. It has a straightforward piano piece in it, nothing too earth-shattering, but it will get you moving and singing!
Cecilia And The Satellite - The most catchy, pop-focused song on the album with some nice pulsating bass and synth. It's the first single.
High Dive - My second favorite song on the album. Such a great beat and an awesome line in the chorus “dancing to someone else’s song.”
All Our Lives - His dreamy voice is dreamy. Really great uplifting lyrics! Kind of sounds like Christian pop.Â
See Her On The Weekend - This is definitely the best song on the album. This is signature Andrew McMahon sing-along writing. The lyrics are about waiting patiently for a loved one while away. The piano track is very noticeable. Makes me feel very hopeful.
Black And White Movies -Â Spacey. Listen late at night, maybe?
Driving Through A Dream - This song also makes me think 80s. :)
Halls - Some old-fashioned dance pop music! Not as pulsing or loud as the other dance songs.
Rainy Girl - A slow, simple and old-fashioned piano-only song. Makes me feel like I'm in a piano bar in the 80's.
Maps For The Getaway - This one was okay.
Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness is currently touring with Hunter Hunted, Junior Prom, and Fences.
Anybody else buy the album (lowest price I’ve seen is on Amazon) or see him live? What did you think of it?
