An old picture frame stood steadfast on the nightstand in her room ever since Shanna could remember. Inside was a photograph of a young man and her mother, lively and happy. She never asked her mother who the man was. She never needed to. The man in the picture, her father, was always there for her, looking after her and her mother. Her early childhood was full of the cherished memories with her father, the secret games and whispers while Mom was out busy and Grampa was taking a nap. She time to time wondered why no one else could see him, but whenever she asked why, Dad simply gave her a sad smile, said she would understand when she is older. The truth, however, was unkind and did not wait for her to grow up. One afternoon, her mother found her speaking to Dad and broke down in tears. That day, she learned what death was, and that her father “passed away” before she was born. The series of therapy sessions followed where these adults kept telling her that her father wasn’t real. If it wasn’t for her mom sobbing in the nights, she wouldn’t have lied that she doesn’t see her father. The secrecy changed her. As she matured, she began to see more than just her father. A crying woman in the alleyway, a boy at a hospital walking through the walls, shadows following her. It didn’t take her long to connect the dots that she could see the dead, including her father. Ghosts didn’t scare her. If anything, they made her sad. The lost souls tied to the earth, unable to move on, in their fading reflections she saw her father.
Through her teenage, she delved into the arts of mediumship despite her mother’s dismay. There was no stopping her once she set her mind to it. She began to sneak out of her house at night and browse through the Ridgeway, the black market where the people like her gathered. The marketplace for freaks and outcasts soon became her hideout. At least in there, she didn’t have to pretend. From there, she acquainted with one Violet Hightower, a veteran exorcist and a powerful magician. She was soon mesmerized by the life Violet led, traveling the world and walking the wire between the living and the dead. Violet, seeing a spark of potential in her, offered to teach her the way of exorcist, not only how to protect herself from the spirits but to help the lost souls. Shanna felt a certain pull like gravity toward that offer, like her soul had found the answer to its searching. She wanted to follow Violet more than anything else. Her father, however, disapproved of her choice to leave Port Ashborne. They argued for days until Shanna finally said something she wished she never had, that she was sick and tired of being haunted by a ghost of her father, that he was never there for her, not really, because he was already dead. She left her home knowing that she did an irreparable damage to their relationship.
Shanna thought she would never get over the fallout with her father. Yet, she was young and alive, and the life was full of new experiences to distract her. Traveling with Violet definitely didn’t allow her time to be caught up with what she left behind. Every day was filled with new towns, new trainings and challenges. Most of all, she founded her most cherished connections, with the other protégés of Violet and the people she met during her training. When Violet told her that it was her time to fly solo, she finally had a chance to reflect on her life, about her past, present and future. She decided to return to Port Ashbourne, knowing that she had so much to offer. By then, she was well-established among mediums and exorcists, and she brought her connections to the city. Upon her homecoming, she took over her grandfather’s old bar at the Port and turned it into a base for mediums and exorcists in the city. It didn’t take long before her business bloomed, especially since the paranormal activities in Port Ashbourne drastically increased. She passed on the word to her contacts outside the city to keep it under control while she searches for the root of the problem.

Frank Fischer (father): It had been few years since her return but the relationship between her and her father was not fixed. With the recent increase of phantoms around the city, she fears that her father might fall prey to them. Worse, she fears that he might turn into a phantom one day.
Violet Hightower (mentor): Violet is perhaps the most influential figure in her life, the one who made Shanna the woman she is today. She wants to make her mentor proud. Not only that, Violet is a family to her. Shanna would gladly drop everything else to help Violet.
Shanna has what people call the one-track mind. She is dedicated, driven and dynamic. In life, her hedonistic and free-spirited nature is her compass. Her passion fires up whenever she sees a challenge, and her mind plans out how to solve it. She rarely worries about the consequence before she acts. She can be quite competitive. If she does something, she has to be the best at it. Granted, this leads her to trouble often as she runs toward the goal with tunnel vision. Luckily, she does not condone irresponsibility, even hers. If her action has caused any harm, she owns up her fault fair and square, and will do anything to do right by those she hurt. While she holds herself at her own codes, she is surprisingly forgiving to others. Because her life is hers and only hers, whatever others do or say is irrelevant to her. As long as they respect her, she will respect them.
A natural-born medium, Shanna is quite perceptive as a medium. She has no difficulty sensing spirits around her. As a trained exorcist, she is effective in dealing with aggressive spirits and even phantoms.
She possesses an ability to slow down her perception of time during which she could perceive her surroundings, plans her actions or reacts. This does not actually change the speed of time. She feels as if time slowed down. Since her body follows the regular flow of time, she cannot move faster than she normally can. However, it allows her to move more precisely, and coordinate her action better. Her ability only lasts few seconds to a minute, and consecutive use gives her a bad headache and nausea.
She studied Runic Magic under her mentor Violet Hightower. Her way with magic is strictly practical, however. She has several tattoos that enhances her physical capability and grants her some degree of protection against possession, magic and supernatural abilities. She could write more complicated spells, or the type of runes that control elements, but she never had the patience to prepare those. She simply draws it on air with her finger, but that significantly lessens the effect and is easy to fail.
With her ability and magic, Shanna is an expert in close combat. She is exceptional in hand-to-hand combat, and her reflexes is incredible even compared to athletes.
