I just like to imagine him maybe during Circle era and he’s fighting a member of the Circle and they say something about him having dirty blood and being inferior to Shadowhunters and he’s just like ‘oh yeah? Could someone with filthy blood do this?’ and he grabs the guy’s seraph blade and it lights up for him and he scares the living shit out of the Circle member

Do steles overheat and burst into flames when he tries to use them? Do seraph blades light up red in his grasp?

Magnus is the terrifyingly powerful child of a Greater Demon, and he will burn down the world with hellfire. But all the demons used to be angels. Magnus could be twisted and rotten, no excuse for an angel. Or he could be brilliant and shining with inner light and hope.

okay but like, magnus is everything that the clave teaches shadowhunters about being dirty and wrong; he’s got demon blood, he’s a warlock, a downworlder, worth nobody’s time. except he’s so much more than that; he carries the blood of an angel, fallen yes, but no less an angel.

what he’s supposed to be doesn’t matter in the face of what he is; magnus is unspeakably kind and caring, not only for his people, but for shadowhunters - people he knows he shouldn’t trust, but does anyway, because he can’t not care (and later, because he becomes extremely attached to one alec lightwood). he’s powerful, has the biggest heart i’ve ever seen, and in the words of lydia; pretends not to care (to just want payment), but thinks injustice to his friends is intolerable. he’ll burn the world down to protect those he cares about, but deep inside, where it counts, he has a heart that bleeds love if someone will just take it.

magnus is a representation of everything shadowhunters don’t want to be, but is instead the perfect example of what they should be.

Fun fact: One time in my English class, this dude walks in like 10 minutes late. He’s carrying a pineapple with him. I figure he needs it for something later on in the day so I don’t think anything of it. Well about 5 minutes after he sits down, this dude pulls out his pineapple, starts turning it around in his hands, stares at it, and STARTS EATING IT. SKIN AND EVERYTHING. I DIDNT EVEN KNOW PINEAPPLE SKIN WAS EDIBLE. I don’t think I had ever been more confused in my life. I wish I still had the picture I took of it saved on my phone.

there are some stories on tumblr that are too weird or extreme sounding to be true. Sometimes there’s like, one picture, which could be something else out of context with an elaborate story tacked on.

“Valentine” enters the Institue and no one is reaction except Alec. The first thing he does? Pull Max as far behind him as possible. If that doesn’t scream protector I don’t know what else would. And that makes me so emotional. In another post I rambled about how Alec always seemed to cut in front of everyone in order to keep them safe. Alec reacts on instinct– and he always protects. Max is his little brother and as long as “Valentine” gets him first and not Max, Alec would be okay with that.

Okay, but THAT IS AN INTERESTING THEORY.

If his mother has been given demon blood while pregnant, he would be sort of a Sebastian in people’s eyes, thus a pariah. The way it would’ve happened for Raphael’s mother, however, would be different from Jocelyn, because, in this case, the mother suffered the effects of the demon blood.

Raphael might still have some side effects (maybe give him some extra power, like James Herondale?) but not turn him into a monster.

However, after Sebastian, a child like him would be considered a pariah. Alec and Magnus might find him in some Institute, a 3-4 year old boy, where people don’t really want him and look with fear and distaste at him, with the thought of Sebastian still in mind.

He might be just another child about whom people say ‘Who could ever love him?” just like Max.

I see this kinda advice passed around all the time here is the thing: shading with black will indeed look bad if you don’t know what you are doing. However, telling people not to do things without explaining why is terrible advice.

Shadows are the opposite of light, this includes in colour.

This means that if you have light in one colour, the shadow will be of the opposing hue, saturation, and value.

Unless the object is white, it has its own local colour -  the object’s true colour, how it would appear if the light were pure white.

The colour of the light influences the local colour of the object. so if you had yourself a brown cube and a blue light, the colours would get bluer and pinker.

now the reason shadows do not tend to be black is because pure white light is hard to find in nature.

the closest you will get to pure white light is during a really overcast day and the sun is filtering through the clouds, but even then it’ll lean towards yellow so the shadows will be slightly blue.

During a clear day, the shadows will pick up a lot of bounce light from the blue sky and have a blue tinge. You can learn more about this in this tutorial: [http://artbyriana.deviantart.com/art/Why-shadows-aren-t-gray-321656856]

But! None of this means you are never allowed to use black.

realistically shadows will have a hint of a colour to them, but stylistically you might be going for, say, a film noir look and deep black shadows are needed for impact for example.

The more you know about how light works, the more informed decisions you can make about shading and the more options you have.

If someone tells you that you can’t do something, they’re wrong! you can do what you like!

yes, black is hard to use and if you just mix a colour with black it’ll get muddy, but thats easily resolved by choosing your colours manually - which ideally you want to do regardless bc the computer doesnt have your eyes & cant choose the colours you like

basically if someone gives you some art advice and says you can’t do something, they’re wrong! you can, you just might need to study a little to figure out how to make things work.

I mean for example, people will say you must make your composition follow the rule of thirds and never align centrally, but while the rule of thirds makes it easy to create visual interest, Mad Max Fury Road is a testament to the fact that central composition can and will work if you experiment.

there are no rules in art! there are theories based on reality, this has been a post on colour theory & light theory, but they exist to inform you, not to restrict you.

Do what you like! Trust your eyes, if you think something looks good, then great! If you don’t, then research & experiment until you do.
