whenever I watch a movie where people are like dismembering someone alive and they're all chanting "hail satan hail satan" I always think "WOAH WOAH WOAHH GUY'S I NEVER ASKED YOU TO DO THIS! I DON'T NEED YOU TO DO THIS! I HAVE A TUMBLR ACCOUNT YOU CAN FOLLOW ME ON!"
I kind of don’t want to believe you, but at the same time I know what it’s like to have a toxic fandom.

Torso study
I have been experimenting with shrinky dink paper for about two weeks now, because I was wondering if it would be possible to shrink one of my linocuts to make a charm. It's been a slow process because there's next to nothing online about how to do such a thing, but I knew it could be done because an etsy shop (SmilingSunPrints) has done it.
So in the interest of saving someone else the work:
This is first attempt, second attempt, and third attempt, from left to right respectively. First attempt is a normal amount of water-based printing ink, applied via brayer in the same amount I generally apply when printing. On the second attempt I more consciously did a thin layer of ink, and the lines came out cleaner but a lot of detail was still being lost. The camera has a hard time picking it up in the black, but the surface is very textured, since the ink is bunched up across the smaller surface area. It's also possible to peel the ink off the first two.
I postponed my further linocut attempts until I obtained an ink pad. The one I picked up is pretty standard, I think it's for office stationery, but it lays a lot less ink on the stamp, which results in a patchy, almost translucent print for the full sized print. However, once the image is compressed during the shrinking process it's almost perfectly uniform and preserves the small details that were lost in the first two attempts. The ink also isn't as easy to peel off, though I imagine I could scratch it if I was really trying.
The overall result was so good I attempted it on both of my big stamps, and they turned out great!
I left these in for 4-5 minutes as opposed to the packaging instructions for 1-3 minutes, because they generally weren't lying flat at the 3-minute mark, but that may simply be a case of my oven running cold. I flatten them with the bottom of a small baking tray, and that's probably where I have the most room for improvement, but they're flat enough for my purpose of turning into pins for my board. They shrink to around 17-25% the surface area of the original print/drawing, so these big prints go from 4 by 6 inches to 1.75 by 2.5 inches.
These are super satisfying, and I'm genuinely astounded by how well this works now that I've figured out what ink to use. If you have a linocut consider trying it out, I'm so immensely pleased by mine.
On one hand I would really like to see people try out this technique, enough that I’m contemplating making a Reddit account to post my specific method to r/printmaking or r/linocuts however on the other hand I don’t wanna ☹️
Tested out doing a watercolor background for this print :)
