i wanted to apologise and say sorry to any Black people that follow or have followed me in the past for when i've ignorantly used aave disrespectfully or mockingly in the past as a person who is from the uk and ethnically Chinese. i had thought i was aware enough to avoid this mistake previously but have still made the mistake and have since gone deeper fully and been much more intentional when this comes up internally to catch myself and change it. i know the difference between speaking another language whilst honouring it vs tokenising and feeding into the racist caricaturisations of Black people/marginalised groups and have been keeping myself in check and will continue to do so always. i just wanted to say this to give some form of justice and repair with what i can do

This is the reality we’re living in. The cost of living here has skyrocketed, making it nearly impossible for families like mine to afford basic necessities. With no job opportunities, destruction all around us, and ongoing hardships, it feels like survival itself has become a luxury.

I am Heba Al-Dahdouh. I currently live in the completely destroyed city of Gaza. Since the war on Gaza began on 7/1/2024, my family- my father Nasif, my mother Asmaa, and my siblings Khaled, Ahmad, Muhammad, and Malak-have been living in constant fear, crying, and suffering due to shrapnel, shells, and bullets.
We have no food, no electricity, no cooking gas, no schools, no homes, no cleaning supplies, and no clothes. Our house was completely destroyed. My school has been bombed, and my brother Khaled's university is now rubble, depriving us all of education. The war has forced us to live in displacement centers, which are just tents unsuitable for living, especially in winter.
Every day we live death, terror, and panic a thousand times because of the ongoing bombardment of my city. The war has killed more than 50 of my relatives and neighbors. At the start of the war, we sought refuge at my aunt's house, but it too became rubble. Imagine: we have survived imminent death more than 20 times and have been displaced among shelters more than 13 times. My siblings and I have suffered from many illnesses due to malnutrition, and we need medication continuously.

Our suffering and hardship started on 14th October, 2023 when my family was forcibly displaced from the north to the south under a life-threatening situation. As a result, our houses were completely destroyed and demolished, and our business accordingly went with the wind. Nothing has been left to be a source of livelihood. No shelters to house us nor a livelihood source to live on.
We have been living miserably in tents since the early days of the war. Life had become very hard and tough. No means of life still exists. Getting the least level of life is now hard and impossible. All our hope is to secure the daily basic necessities but this seems more often impossible that is why we are suffering the hardship of life. You can't imagine how hard it is to get food, drink water, medicine and other facilities. Life has become dire and sad in addition to the hot weather inside the hot tents that adds to our pain and unbelievable sufferings. Words can't show the miserable situations and circumstances we are experiencing nowadays due to the unfair war.
A part of our daily sufferings to get the least of what we need. Imagine how you feel when you wait for at least four hours in queue .Things are the worst one has ever
experienced. That is why I am asking for you generous contribution to help me secure the least of what we daily need and to find safety and peace for the twenty-member family who are now tasting all forms of torture and sorrow.
Every day we wake up to find things move from bad to worse. No sign is there for the war to end and this add to our unhappiness and miserable life. Despair and hopelessness have become new forms of our life as we are now homeless , displaced and jobless.

Recently, the pain has worsened significantly, especially at night. 🌙 I went to the doctor, underwent tests and X-rays, and discovered that a piece of metal had moved while I was sleeping, causing severe inflammation in the injury area. I started treatment, but after two days, I felt another pain. I returned to the doctor, and after more tests, it turned out that I was infected with hepatitis. 😞
Psychological and Physical Pain 💔
My mental state has deteriorated greatly. I can no longer sleep or enjoy life. 😩 I find myself wishing for death due to the intense pain. The doctor prescribed me a medication called **Zebeta**, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find it in pharmacies because of the collapse of the healthcare system in Gaza.
He also prescribed an alternative treatment, which is **honey**, but I was shocked to find that its price has risen to **$200**. 😳 I can no longer afford medication or honey, which has led to a further deterioration of my health.
Food Crisis 🍞
The situation doesn’t stop there; the prices of food items have skyrocketed. A bag of flour has become **$300**, making bread scarce in bakeries.So people go to the bakery and I cannot go to the bakery because of the crowding and jostling there, where any movement is calculated so that the stuck fragments do not move, which causes severe inflammation.
Now, I can’t find treatment, honey, or food. My health condition worsens day by day.
