“Figure 1 tracks the per-person resource demand Ecological Footprint and biocapacity in Kuwait since 1961. Biocapacity varies each year with ecosystem management, agricultural practices (such as fertilizer use and irrigation), ecosystem degradation, and weather, and population size. Footprint varies with consumption and production efficiency.
Country Factsheets for each country provide more methodological details included in the National Footprint Account 2011 Edition. These compare the Ecological Footprint and biocapacity trends between the current and previous editions. Differences between editions emerge due to changes in data and methodology. Athough humanity is dependent on healthy ecosystems, there is only limited public awareness of earth systems science and ecological boundaries. There is an urgent need to communicate thresholds which have already been crossed and specific ecological boundaries as a means of facilitating practical policy initiatives and public support for protecting ecologicals systems. Lack of awareness has led to a failure to devolopment models that fail to reflect ecological boundaries.
Taking advantage of the ongoing transformation, we define new devices in key urban energy, capable of building alternative models of cities, based on new relations between the various distributed energy systems (Electricity transforming / Walt Petterson)

The Petropolis of Tomorrow is a design and research project, which examines new Petropolises — cities formed from resource extraction — associated with offshore oil extraction in South America. To date, infrastructure tied to natural resource extraction has rarely been designed using long-term, holistic planning. Despite the growing logistical landscape dedicated to oil extraction, little design effort has been afforded to engaging and empowering the unique social, cultural, environmental, and economic challenges which face these new communities. The Petropolis of Tomorrow is a multidisciplinary project undertaken in collaboration with The South American Project (SAP), Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, Rice University’s School of Architecture, and Cornell University’s Department of Architecture. Its aim is to provide new templates for architecture, urbanism and infrastructural design tied to resource extraction that privileges a systemic symbiosis between economic, political, environmental and social systems.

What would happen if cities produced the energy that our natural world could consume?
Rather than, the world producing energy that the cities consume, ie the energy from wind, sun, water…
In the water-deprived areas of the Islamic world (and also outside it), however, most of those who can afford to splurge on water now do so, not only ignoring centuries of traditions relating to water-conserving landscape practices that developed high-quality, sustainable landscaping solutions, but also contributing to a process of environmental degradation to the areas in which they live, and to the planet as a whole.
