the water remembers
2 years ago I took a trip to Cambria with a loved one. I was hesitant to take this trip 4 hours away from home because my grandmother was extremely ill. I felt sad but part of me truly believed she would get better. On the third day of my trip I sat at a restaurant enjoying a cinnamon roll as I receive a call from my mother saying grandma is being taken into the ICU. those words are stamped in my head permanently. after the call i went to the water to have a moment and then started to drive home.
a few weeks later my grandmother passed. It was one of the hardest times i went through.
time has passed. things have changed. I have moved back home, ive gotten married.
last month my husband and I were on a road trip for our anniversary and we stopped in Cambria. we stopped at the water and i could not help but try and have a conversation with the water. do you remember me dear ocean? do you remember that day? were you sad that day too? are you sad right now? do you remember who i was that day? have i changed? am i stronger?
from the earth we are created and to it we belong.
i wonder if there are molecules in the water that were once belonging to my grandmother. I hope the ocean misses her like I do.
