@sournoir
what they don’t tell you about listening to The Music is that you will inexplicably pick up new phrases. I, for example, have not been able to stop saying “whatever. thus my tale of woe continues” at every mild inconvenience,
PEOPLE DIE AND PLANETS TURN AND EMPIRES RISE AND FALL AND BURN NOTHING LASTS AND NO ONE STAYS WE JUST SPIRAL OFF INTO OUTER SPACE NEVER SEEN A SKY SO FULL OF STARS MAKES ME WONDER WHERE YOU ARE
number one wait by the river defender right here,, if she has no fans then I’m dead. have you ever been affected by third degree yearns
thinking about vide noir on this fine anniversary, and there was so much that went into it. products of the universe, and the vhs tapes that the band dropped off in random record shops. the vide noir hotline (1-877-VIDE NOIR you will always be famous) the follow the emerald star campaign (not only the posters and street art, but the geolocation aspect, and the fact that fans could listen to unreleased songs at a fucking volcano). the celestial poem ??? 'i followed the emerald star and by and by i return, diminished and daunted' ??? the sheer amount of lore both before and after the movie (which remains the most visually impressive movie i have ever watched. it is beautiful). ben schneider took buck vernon, one of the most pathetic men known to man, and made a heart-wrenching story out of him, complete with fictional drugs and gangs and probable hallucinations. it even has johnnie redmayne.
and somehow, the music itself is better than all of that combined. which is saying something. perfect album, no notes
i don’t have any real reason to think it’s them, but i think it’s interesting that the two ghosts/visions that stare at each other in the who laughs last MV look a lot like older versions of buck and lee. the ages would somewhat fit considering that this new storyline seems to be set in the late 80s or 90s and vide noir takes place in the 60s. not sure what it would mean if it IS them, but you know.. it’s interesting
for anyone that wants to scroll while playing this on repeat aka me (you can download it here) :D

I SHOULD'VE LIKED THE FEELING OF AN ENDLESS ROAD I'M TIRED OF DOING WHAT I'M TOLD I KNOW LIFE IS FLEETING AND IT ALL GOES FAST IF NO ONE LIVES FOREVER WHO LAUGHS LAST?
WHO LAUGHS LAST
Heartbreaking
FaceTiming from L.A. Friday, son Benjamin appeared to be fighting back tears as he talked about the things in his adopted city that he had loved and lost in the past 72 hours or so.
Various restaurants, shops and museums; homes of close friends; “Christmas Tree Lane” in Altedena, where residents have been going whole hog with their holiday displays since 1920 . All of it gone.
The destruction is breathtaking: 12,000 buildings lost. The death toll at 11 and bound to rise. Big chunks of sunny LA. turned into what one reporter called a “hellscape.”
Meanwhile, Lord Huron guitarist Tom Renaud posted the above photo and message.
Heartbreaking, indeed.
I can't lie, I find it very odd that posts cautioning people against donating to individual* campaigns and promoting the idea of supporting mutual aid efforts and community kitchens in Gaza can rack up 10k+ notes--while a post promoting a community kitchen (that I can personally vouch for) struggles to get 1k notes, and has barely pulled in a couple hundred dollars over the past week.
I actively try to avoid using guilting tactics in fundraising, but this is weird to me. It's like people are using these posts as an excuse not to do things they already didn't want to do anyway, rather than actually taking their recommendations on board...
*In my experience, these campaigns often support large extended families + their neighbours
This campaign is a mutual aid initiative involving myself, my friends Mohammad Abu-Alwan and his two brothers in Palestine, and Shakhya Scri
MAQMAP is a community kitchen aiming to support families in the Mawasi Al-Qarara area.
Mohammed is planning to distribute food parcels, each containing one liter of vegetable oil, one kilo of sugar, one kilo of rice, one kilo of lentils, one kilo of pasta, and a can of sauce, to the 70+ families in Mawasi Al-Qarara camp later this week.
Thank you so much for all of your help so far. Any money that you can spare would really help to keep this initiative going in the coming weeks.
One thing I really like about "love" in LH songs is when they depict a wish to pursue love, to give love, almost separate from the wish to receive that love reciprocally.
"I'd give it all to love that girl"
"I have been trying to find her, want to give what I got"
"I'm hummin' like a revved-up truck Never mind the odds, I'm gonna try my luck with her"
(Belle Fleur Sauvage, She Lit a Fire, Fool for Love)
I say "almost" separately, because more or less every song that explores a yearning to give love also engages with a yearning to recieve. They are depicted as two desires in conversation, but arguably, on a larger scale, two facets of a whole. LH also don't put "yearning to give" on a pedestal: they depict both of these elements as verging into possessiveness.
"And when I die, I want her lying by my side In my grave, in my grave (...) I'll be the one to pluck that fleur"
"Before I commence my ride I'm askin' Lily to be my bride I know there's another man But he ain't gonna delay my plans [Chorus] I know she gonna be my wife Gonna fall in love, I'm gonna live my life with her"
(La Belle Fleur Sauvage, Fool for Love)
LH's overarching subject of searching for a lost loved one is also relevant here. Particularly its status as a solo subject - the search itself is worth commemorating in song.
In separating yearning for love and yearning to love, LH acknowledge that the chance to even offer your love is not always a given. We're obstructed by distance in space and time, by circumstance, by all sorts of incompatibility. Often, we're obstructed by loss. LH validate that just loving someone can, in itself, be something to yearn for or strive towards. They commemorate that striving in all its complexity and emotional importance; and man, I adore them for it.
