my friend expressed suicidal thoughts earlier. me and the rest of the friend group were trying to comfort him. it was an online friend group, so we were all talking in the vent channel in the friend group’s server.

my mom walked in, looked at my screen for a few seconds, read some of the messages, and her first reaction was “why do all these kids have to be so DEPRESSED??” in some condescending sarcastic tone. so i replied “believe it or not, children have feelings too”, and she responded “well why do they have to take it to that EXTREME?? feeling is one thing, but THAT??”

hmm idk why DO they feel like this? maybe because of privileged people like you who have their head in the sand🤔🤔

are we this out of touch?? have adults forgotten that minors could feel like this?? or is this just another example of minors not being seen as people. it’s probably both ngl. it’s kinda crazy how adults would genuinely see kids struggling and just brush it off like that. genuinely do better. this is very telling
