Today we are adding 20 logs to the mushroom garden. Half oyster and half shiitake. The term that comes to mind is passive-food production. It will take two years for these logs to start sprouting mushrooms. But once they get going, they will produce for 3 to 5 years (depending on the diameter) over two years ago we started this and are now seeing the benefit. If every year we add 20 logs... could you imagine 10 years from now! (universe willing) It is a rewarding feeling to carve mushrooms off logs. Not to mention the nutritional content of #shiitake, #Lionsmane and #Rishi. Mushrooms have been a living food and medicine we’ve developed a relationship with for 10,000 generations. We are just trying to get back to some of that. #passivefoodproduction #mushroomlogs #comebacktoearth
I made these in 2008.
Titles: Ambassadors
I made 6 of them. Half were sent to a dealer, Frederic Got, in Paris, France.
I’m more information on my work: www.kristoferlamey.com
I received a gift from artist Victoria Katsa Demarco. I built a museum case for it right away. This one lives in our home but I will bring it to the galley for display for a month or so soon.
Today was just a focus on balance and falling. To make the falling (Ukemi) efficient, balance and control are essential. It’s also great core strength training. #aikibujutsu
My wife was the Hunter on this one and I played chef.
We cooked the venison backstrap from my wife’s seven point buck. I wet marinated the venison with red onion, avocado honey and green chili. I seared the venison in a hot cast-iron skillet inside our grill. Just a few minutes on all four sides, rotating the meat at intervals with tongs. Sliced it thin at 45° angle. Plated it with couscous and fresh greens.
Found a little bit of magic in our hives this morning. The birth of a honey bee.
It’s that time of year!!
Our son (9 yrs) harvested this squirrel on the last day of the hunting season. He skinned it, gutted and prepared the meat all by himself. He started the fire, made the spit, and set up his camp. He is mastering his environment. ( let’s see how long this stays up before the young, keyboard gangster living with their parents, flags this as adult content. 4th time posting this. April 2018 It’s been a great morel season this year. Moreover, with the rain and cool weather we’ve had in Atlanta I think we can prolong the morel magic for another week. Out of all the mushrooms we forage this one is my personal favorite. It’s right up there with Black Trumpet. One thing we love about the morel mushroom is how well it dehydrates and rehydrates. We pour some boiling water into a bowl and lay the dried mushrooms in it. In five minutes the mushrooms are rehydrated, ready for cooking and you’re left with a very tasty broth. Once we have the mushrooms dehydrated we just place the dried mushrooms in a jar and put a small oxygen absorber inside. Maybe, we’ll be able to enjoy this mushroom until next spring :-) I hope this post finds you guys doing well. Respectfully, K
Now a hunter. 2.11.2018 Our eight-year-old son has become a hunter today. He moved through all the steps, from field to table, by himself. He prepared a delicious meal of his own conception and fed us. We believe that there is an environmental respect when children have this type of connection with their food and environment at a young age. It seemed to work for our grandparents generation. I hope this latest blog post finds you guys doing well. Respectfully, K
These children are off to a good start. They should be able to move deer from the field to table, all on their own, in a few more years.
We sped up a little video of how we bone out a venison hindquarter.
Before breakfast we set up a time lapse shot of our honeybees taking back a spoonful of their hard work. It took about 20 minutes for the bees to do this in real time. #fortheloveofhoney
The children are understanding how powerful they can be as young individuals. A good friend of ours is great at empowering individuals with life-saving skills and we were fortunate enough to work alongside him on our latest family affair. Together, we learned about how and when to apply CPR. All of us were able to train on adult and infant simulators. We were happily surprised to witness our son, strong enough, able to apply adequate chest compressions on the adult setup. Our little guy felt empowered knowing that he could possibly save the lives of his family members. Our daughter did not quite have the strength for the adults at this time but she was excited about working with the infants. We also learned how to properly use an AED, and the proper way to help one who is choking even if the one choking is yourself and no one else is around. Much of the great insight from our instructor comes from his lengthy personal experience. The lessons in how to apply the techniques we learned and the maintaining of situational awareness was taught in tandem. We were also placed in make-believe scenarios that helped us understand how vulnerable we could be at any given time. This was a great lesson that has brought us closer as a family. We recommend Learning these skills if you don't already know. Also, If it's been a while it's a good excuse to learn it again because there is a difference between the way it is taught today than just few years ago. I hope our latest post find you doing well Respectfully, K
