Hello everyone !! I’ve returned from my wonderful trip. Now while this blog is going off hiatus again I have decided I’m going to be focusing on school more so this blog will be even slower in replying than it already was and will become more selective. I apologize and I understand if anyone wants refrain from rping with me for this reason. I won’t mind at all. Other than that things will go back to normal. Have a lovely day !!

“No. —- No. ‘m getting too old to get involved in those matters.”
It’s a lie. He will most likely get involved whether he wants it or not, but he can’t have Bucky worrying about now. – Can’t risk him knowing that the next time he was taken out of the ice to make sure his vital functions were still intact, he wouldn’t be greeted with steve and a bunch of newspapers but maybe T’challa, telling him that Steve was gone…
“I think it’s about oil… But I’ve lost track a long time ago.”
He waited for his friend to stretch and get comfortable in his own body again, using the time to take in the small smile on the other’s lips, the life in his eyes and the pink of his skin…
God, he was so tired.
While it was just like sleeping and waking up for Bucky, for Steve, every single time it felt like someone RIPPED his heart out of his chest only to hand it back to him after poking and picking at it for months and…years.
“Good. I think you’ve done enough to try and end wars or to stop them from happening.”
It had always been one of the hardest things for him to have seen his friend become a symbol that was somehow supposed to end a world war. Little Steve becoming a new beacon of hope for his country and the entire resistance front. He still could barely imagine what it must’ve been like for him.
Bucky rested his hand on Steve’s shoulder for support as they made their way into the next room. He could still barely fathom how incredibly large the entire complex was but this room he knew all too well from the previous few awakenings.
“You better have brought me something to eat, I’m starving.” A soft laugh left his lips as he dropped down on a chair.
“How are your friends?”
“Of course, Bucky.” The thank you stings a little– but he smiles through it, watching Bucky disappear into the bathroom before leaving for the kitchen to make Bucky some tea.
His eye still smarts a little and he takes the opportunity— shower sputtering on, rustle of clothing hitting the floor– of Bucky being occupied to examine the damage.
He’ll heal fast, he resolves; the rapidly swelling black eye will be returning to almost normal by the time Bucky returns from his shower.
Steve sets a mug out for tea and starts the water, listening for the sounds of Bucky returning from his shower.
The hot water running over his skin feels like a blessing. It does wonders for his tense muscles and quickly washes all the grime away. It also gives him a moment to gather his scattered thoughts. Which is certainly something he needs right now.
It’s about fifteen minutes later when he walks into the kitchen, his hair still damp and clinging to his forehead. Bucky hops up to sit on the counter and smiles faintly towards Steve.
“I’m sorry for keeping you up like this. If you want, just go back to bed alright? I can handle myself.”
Guilt is one of the most prominent feelings ever since he’s returned.
Gaze fell to the floor; she had never heard him sound so defeated. The only truth is her parent’s words were Bucky’s profession, but she didn’t care and she believed she had told him that enough times for him to believe it. Yet, it was obvious he was still insecure; he still believed she deserved better while she believed there was nothing better than him.
James had showed her what love was, how it felt like to have someone genuinely caring for you and not the money your parents had. If only he could see himself through her eyes, he would understand what a wonderful man he was and the things she was willing to give up because of him
❛ No. I’m not going back. I’m going with you. They don’t know what’s best for me. I do. I don’t care about your job or your last name, I care about who you are. If they can’t see you’re a great man then that’s THEIR problem. I love you, okay ? And I want to be with you. Please, don’t leave me here. ❜
He couldn't stand watching her like this. She almost looked fragile, drenched in the rain and staring at the ground. Despite initially wanting to keep his distance he couldn't help himself. James walked over to her and shrugged off his jacket to pull it over her shoulders instead. The jacket was also wet at this point but better than nothing. Though once he'd properly covered her he stepped away again. If he was going to turn his back on her he couldn't keep doing things like this. He realized that.
“I can't, Nat, I can't let you come with me. You need to go home. I need to go home. We just need time, I think.”
James tone was quiet and uncertain. Every word he spoke stung like hell. He wanted nothing more than to take her into his arms, but after her parents words he'd realized again what a fool he was for ever thinking this could go right.
“Do you realize what you'd be giving up if you'd choose me? I can't let you do that, Natasha. I just can't.”
easily following direction, the shaking hands hidden under too-long sleeves ball into fists. just in case. wide eyes follow his frame, teeth pressing down on her bottom lip. there wasn’t going to be anyone there, she knows it now. just another figment of her imagination, the realization too blunt. maybe he had figured it out too, his actions just serving as a reassurance, like a parent checking for monsters beneath the bed.
breath washing over her lips, she keeps her eyes focused on the ground until he speaks again. ❝ i can’t sleep. ❞ her arms pull her knees to her chest, resting her chin atop them. ❝ i can’t. i keep forgetting that i’m not there when i wake up. and it all feels so real. are… are we safe? ❞
He looks at her almost worried, contemplating his next best move. It’s been a very long time since he’s cared for anyone like this. Since he’d felt the need to protect someone without being ordered to do so. The last person he vaguely remembers being close to is Natalia and he has no clue of her current whereabouts, or whether she’s remember him at all. Eventually James reaches out to her, carefully and purposely so that she can see it. His hand comes to rest on her shoulder and he tries his best too look reassuring.
“As safe as we can be for now. Safer than we were there. We need to find a more permanent place we can stay. Take on new identities.Whatever they taught us, we’ll use it against them.”
“ -I do have a rough idea, yeah. You look pretty good for your age.” She finished off the beer and wiped her mouth as she set it aside; though there was another couple in the fridge she wouldn’t move onto them just yet, not wanting to outdrink her guest. If the rumours were true, this wish was futile, but she may as well try to pace herself anyway. “ -If you want music I’m picking it - God knows what was popular during the Second World War. Do you even know what an iPod is?” A small flinch rippled across her features in response to his sharp movement, but she bit her tongue and didn’t mention it. If it was an instinct born of the war - or, worse, his torturous experience with HYDRA - it would do neither of them any good to examine it. If she thought her own automatic responses were bad, his must be debilitating. “ -Yeah. Yeah, I understand that. I might have some vodka in my room, but I can’t promise anything. Promise not to tell on me if I go grab it? I can’t deal with Simmons’ hurt-puppy look and Coulson’s dad-ish telling off.”
Bucky let out a soft huff.
“Thanks. You know I don’t think I ever got your name.”
He picked up the faint smile again when she started about music. He had some fond memories of dancing back in the day. Which was certainly a lot different than it was now.
“We didn’t have much in the war but the 40s weren’t so bad you know. Natasha explained all that tech to me. Or at least most of it.”
Bucky was glad that she let it be for now. Not particularly keen to discuss much of his past and she’d spoken out that she wasn’t either. He chuckled quietly at the mention of vodka in her room. Bucky gave her a nod and put a hand on his heart.
“I swear that I won’t tell. Wouldn’t do me any good in the first place ‘cause they might take it away from you and then I’m left without a drink as well.”
