It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal.

People always think that happiness is a faraway thing…something complicated and hard to get. Yet, what little things can make it up; a place of shelter when it rains - a cup of strong hot coffee when you’re blue; for a man, a cigarette for contentment; a book to read when you’re alone - just to be with someone you love. Those things make happiness.

I guess being needed is almost as good as being loved. Maybe better.

At the end of the day we can endure much more than we think we can.

You’re beautiful x
Pompeii, Italy 1995
Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the two of you, on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you’re in love or you’re partners in crime. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something.

Handle With Care
Handle With Care explores sexist comments that have affected me and other women. Some phrases are things I have been told at different times during my life, others are comments that other women have submitted to me. The photos aim to capture modern day sexism and some of the pressures that women face in society today.
A few photos incorporate traditional household tasks that are associated with women, such as cooking and sewing. Creating these phrases required me to engage in the actual task of cooking and sewing, introducing an interesting paradox to the series. These photos comment on the persisting pressures on women by society to conform to gender roles.
The title Handle With Care reflects on society’s perception of me as delicate and fragile being due to my size and sex.
To participate in this series feel free to leave a comment on one of these photos on my Instagram with a sexist comment that has affected you.
