Destination: The Hyperion II Space Station
**The Hyperion II Space Station majority demographics of permanent residence is primarily Chinese. The Station is of lower mid-range in size and holds an estimated 12,000 (documented) in population. Hyperion II orbits Uranus and is a relatively new station - built within the last thirty years after the previous Hyperion SS was destroyed due to a massive ship collision in the docking and refuel bay. The Hyperion II is known for its capitalization of an extensive hydroponics system, leading to high numbers of exports in fresh food. Watch out for pickpockets!
OBJECTIVE: In 24 hours the Argonaut will be docking at a nearby Space Station to refuel and restock the ship’s inventory. Crew members will be assigned objectives in small team efforts to contribute to the ship’s needs. Characters will be able to explore the station at their leisure as long as their assignment is fulfilled. Ship funds are not to be used for personal expenses. Note that the crew does run on a budget and assigned teams are allotted a certain amount of funding. Teams can divvy up tasks within their department and get more specific if you like!

In list of most affordable fresh foods to highest in price range as follows: grains, vegetables, preserved meats, farm raised fish, fruit, fowl, fresh milk, fresh eggs, cheese, pork, beef. Dry items such as powdered milk and eggs, spices, flour, etc. are generally pretty affordable. Sale Items: rice, sardines, instant bread, powdered milk/eggs, grapes, pork sausages. Argonaut needs: fresh food, liquids, rations (standard & emergency), cat food.

Selling and buying weapons is a tricky business that involves matters of subtly. The Argonaut currently is in possession of two excess crates of guns, a crate of blank paper, and a box of salvaged ship wreck parts incompatible for the Argonaut.

Mechanical and Electrical parts can range from high prices (brand new, unused) to total steals (perusing salvage and wreckage yards). After a close call, the Argonaut is in need of supplies to fix up part of the ship’s exterior as well as some upgrades for the electrical systems.

Practical items like bandages, needles, thread, etc. are typically affordable, however pharmaceutical medicine on Hyperion run pretty high. In addition to their high production of fresh fruits and vegetables, the Hyperion is also known for its production of alternative remedies.

THIS MISSION IS MANDATORY (SORTA). For this event, we’d like it if everyone could participate! Logistically everyone on board would be required to help in maintaining the ship’s stores and cupboards, so we’d like to emulate that if possible! Missions/Deliveries after this one will follow with voluntary participation. If you for some reason cannot participate due to outside circumstances for the next week-ish, please let us know and we can take your kiddo off their team (nbd if so).
DEADLINE? No specific deadline at this time, we’ll gauge the pace of how people play this one out and decide when the time comes for the Argonaut to take leave of the station later.

Rising through the ranks, The Recruit was happy with her position on the front lines until she discovered the corruption within her battalion. She went AWOL and she hasn’t looked back.
Able bodied and strong, she does her best to make sure no one on the ship wants for assistance and that missions go smoothly. The Recruit has a habit of stepping in front of bullets meant for others.
The Recruit wants to give her life meaning. Whether it’s by taking care of her ramshackle family or dying a martyr is up to chance.

What would your character’s bunk room look like?
Del isn’t much for creature comforts, she’s never had much to begin with and ‘make due with what you’ve got’ was the motto of the Marines. But she does like things and military efficiency goes out in the face of being able to accumulate so much junk at such an alarming rate now. Most of it ends up overflowing from a box under her bunk until she can sort through it -she’ll get to it, she swears, as she kicks a tin of incense back under her bed- and that task is often pushed off in favor of wandering the ship. It’s one of the pleasures she takes in no longer having a commanding officer; while she still sees the Captain and the Sane One as superiors, she’s not worried about one of them peeking their head in and barking about keeping 'sentimental bullshit’ before making her toss it out the airlock. Or manipulating the crew for their own gain for that matter, but that’s another story.
Everything else in her room falls in line with standards and regulations though, her clothes are folded, if slightly threadbare, and the run of the mill sheets are crisply folded. The few trinkets that survive the eventual purge are displayed proudly and the seldom used tablet charges at her bedside. All in all, it’s a designated place for Del to lay her head and store her things, otherwise she floats around the common areas or others’ rooms, leaving the Stranger to their space.

Injuries: It’s a miracle she’s still 100% flesh and blood to be honest. Del is in to see the Medic the most out of any crew member, not only because she’ll put herself in harm’s way, but because she has the tendency to be a klutz when there’s not a weapon in her hand. Tripping over loose wiring, banging her head on the bulkheads, catching her fingers in doors and on sharp objects, it’s all in a day’s work.
Armor: She may be mix of a delivery girl/space pirate/cowboy/slightly less than upstanding citizen now, but Del’s not going to be gallivanting about in a t-shirt and jeans. She left her battalion barracks with the Federation armor on her back and because she’s currently AWOL, she had to scrub it down to look like any standard carbon set. It was the second or third hardest thing she’s ever had to do in her life- she has pride in few things, but being an excellent Marine was one, belonging to (what was supposed to be) a prestigious force. The brilliant red and white stripes painted over black and the recognizable helmet shoved in the back of her tiny closet, she’s always hit with a pang of pain when she kits out.
Loneliness: Despite the rather intimidating figure she cuts when she’s geared up, Del’s the veritable puppy of the ship. She hates being alone and will often wander the corridors until she finds someone to talk to (read: pester for a task, or just sit quietly or play cards, even with the Slacker. She doesn’t mind if the girl cheats, company is company). If you hold a position of authority above her or are an expert in a certain field it’s garner her immediate professional respect. But if you’ve gained her trust you’ll know it, and you can expect her to give you the shirt off her back if she deems it necessary. Literally, ask Staff Sergeant Sharp about that one. (Del’ll swear up and down that it’s not to make up for what she lacks in contribution to the relationship. Swear 'til she’s blue in the face.)
Sleep - Coffee: It’s fair to say Del really doesn’t have a natural sleep rhythm anymore, that clock giving way to the artificial uppers and downers necessary when you spend years sitting on watch. She had a burgeoning problem with high quality stims midway through her career but kicked it with caffeine and the occasional cigarette when they were in atmosphere. Now she sleeps heavily when the inclination strikes and is not a morning person, usually needing at least two cups of coffee before she resembles anything remotely human. You’re most likely to get a rude, half-grumbled comment out of her at this time. After a long sleep she’ll drag herself out of bed for the next mission brief, rumpled and clinging to her mug like a lifeline.

Adeline Rowland wasn’t special, she’d known it since she was old enough to understand what the word meant. What passed for an orphanage beneath Mars was more a collection of raggedy kids shepherded by an elderly woman, the even older beads tucked beneath her shirt a holdout of bygone days and dried up compassion. She was no match for the small knot of children, few faces staying for long but still she tried, corralling them to classes when they bothered to stick around and doing her best to keep more than scraps on their plates. Del liked to call her Nan, because she never knew what the matron’s real name was and one of the kind grandmothers in a holo-book for school was named Nanna. Life wasn’t bad, certainly not the worst it could be for a girl with no family and no prospects on the red planet, but she was under no false illusions: there wasn’t anyone out there looking for her or a lineage for her to claim. Anything she had would have to be made for herself.
As old people do, Nan passed and Del’s one tie to Mars was cut, leaving a gaping emptiness that refused to be filled. The body being taken away coincided with her seventeenth birthday and she left before the scavengers could descend on the woman’s belongings, making the trek to the Marine recruiters office. At seventeenth months and one day of age, Adeline Rowland was on a ship headed for basic training, and she rarely ever looked back.
The training was hard; it was meant to be, and it proved exceedingly difficult for a gangly, malnourished and underage girl. But through massive effort and sheer willpower at times, Del pushed through, taking hits that knocked over bigger recruits and coming back for more. It was easier to absorb military knowledge, learn weapons skills than it had ever been to sit through class with a book in hand and she was determined not to fail.
After months of grinding toil, graduation passed in a blur of pomp and circumstance before they shipped her out to the far reaches of the Sol Galaxy with the 12th Battalion Infantry, shutting down supposed civil war and bringing separatists back over to the Federation. The first time Del came back with pulse burns on her armor and a metal slug buried in her shoulder, they gave her a medal, stitched her shut and sent her back into the thick of things. And she was okay with it, sacrificing for the mission and needs of the Corps. It became the running joke that Adeline “Call me Del, jackass” Rowland would willingly take every shot aimed at the 12th. In reality, there were a few people she could live with letting die, but the sentiment was mostly accurate. Anything to keep her squad safe and her superiors happy.
Her saving grace was then Lance Corporal Liza Start, the only one who seemed to be able to see when Del pushed herself past her own significant limits and needed more than just the flight surgeon to put her back together. And if that job came to include an affectionate touch or stolen hours when neither of them were assigned to watch at the end of the day, they didn’t comment on it. Space could get lonely and Del had someone she could lavish with attention and receive it in return.
It wasn’t until Del was nearly through her second enlistment period, multiple promotions, various decorations and ten years into her career, all of them spent with the Dirty Dozen on the front lines that her CO approached about anopportunity. Lieutenant Colonel Bertram Schuler needed one Marine, handpicked for efficiency and dedication, to accompany him to a meeting between leadership and separatists meant to ease tensions, and he’d chosen her. Pleased was an understatement, and Del went along without a second thought, standing at the shoulder of the officer that she would willingly lay down her life for.
She had an excellent view of the credits changing hands.
When 12th Battalion 'received orders’ to pull out of Termus less than a week later, a sick feeling took root in Del’s gut. Unwilling to voice her suspicions, even to her lover, she watched closely as again they were deployed to an outlying planet and the chaos that ensued. And again, several months into the conflict, she was called upon to play bodyguard as the higher echelons of her command were bought off. It broke every belief she’d ever had about the good she supposedly had been doing. It broke her faith in the Marines, and the Federation itself.
The third time that the tasking came down, Del scribbled a hasty note to Liza apologizing and walked out of camp, hopping transports and avoiding checkpoints until she reached civilized space and ultimately, the Argonaut.
She had no qualms about being on the ‘wrong’ side of law, but you could be damn sure she was going to be honest about it.

Why are you seeking employment with us?
Do I… ma'am? Sir? They didn’t ever teach us how to address an AI… But, I need work. Or purpose, I guess you could say. The Federation’s fucke- corrupt, and there aren’t exactly a lot of job offers out there for deserters unless you’re willing to throw your lot in with someone out in the 'Belt. Heard you shoot when necessary but you also help, and that’s about all I can ask for.
Please describe your former work experience and/or qualifications.
I spent 11 years in the Federation Marines following orders that I didn’t necessarily like, it’ll be easy to follow through on one that I do. Plus I’ve kept up on all my iron sight quals, so I’m not reliant on pulse tech. And I’m pretty hard to kill, a lot of people have tried.
What prompted your interest in space delivery (and other non-delivery related tasks)?
I was told that there’s a lot of running and potential shooting involved… Running and shooting’s pretty much all that I’m good at.
Why not a desk job?
My marks in school weren’t exactly great so it’s not like I’d get a decent job anywhere… Even then, I’d probably get fired in my first week for fucki- mucking up.
Do you have any past experience in short or long-term space travel?
Deployments were a big damn deal, lasted anywhere from six months to a year and you’d turn around, be sent out on another one as soon as you got back. I’ve all but lived in space for the past decade.
Do you have any personal or long-term goals in life?
I just want to be useful, I guess. Does that count?
What concerns do you have about close-quarter isolation?
As long as there’s a bunk and a head, I’m good to go.

What would your character’s bunk room look like? The Argonaut is the first stable environment Emi’s lived on for more than a few months in over a decade, so she’s still adapting to the fact that it’s hers to do what she pleases with. She keeps it neat: all of her clothes stay in a duffel at the bottom of her closet rather than hung up, her habit of picking up one book at each location they dock at has resulted in a tidy pile of a variety of paperbacks and hardcovers on her desk, and what seems to be random maps and torn out pages neatly line the wall. There’s nothing of interest in her room, as she’s aware that curious crew members could easily go looking for answers about her in there – anything of import can only be found in her head.

No one knows how The Stranger showed up on the ship, they’re not even sure when The Stranger joined the crew
Thirteen months ago, a bustling space station on Titan. It wasn’t that hard, really. Overhearing some crewmembers arguing over the fact that they’d ‘probably get left behind if they didn’t drag this crate load of crap over to the ship in five minutes’, Emi followed a few feet back, mingling with the small group of passengers waiting to board the Argonaut and slipping in unnoticed.
She continued this routine with each destination they reached – she would class herself with the passengers and be careful to avoid frequent interactions with the crew, allowing each to be aware of her general existence to desensitise their curiosity before disappearing in the ship. No one seemed to think to check the passenger register until two weeks after a disgruntled client’s peon dropped dead at their feet, his finger on a trigger and a bullet hole in temple, and she had cashed in her first payment. With no trace of her on it, Emi’s initial time on the Argonaut is still disputed to this day.
They can be all things to all people, adapting to each crew member’s needs.
She’s lost track of herself over the years. In fact, if it wasn’t for the polaroid picture she stole from her file of her and her grandparents on her ninth birthday, with the date and names clearly written on the back, she’s sure she would have forgotten her birth name, her real age and that, no, she wasn’t created from sweat and ashes and pain, she had actually had a life before all of this. A silent guardian, she merely observes the daily going on’s of her fellow crew members until she is needed before retreating into the shadows once more, so much that the only emotion that she’s sure is really hers is remorse that flows through her veins.

Samantha Harper Cordes. It’s the name that’s scolded at her throughout her childhood as her single mother does her utmost best to survive in the slums of a small colony on Mars. She learns much throughout her first few years, from the ancient Earth dialect of Korean to how to make her own sandwiches before her mother passes away when she’s seven. The Foster Care Agency traces back her roots, placing her in the care of her paternal grandparents, upper middle class citizens on a nearby biodome that lost their only son to the military eight years ago. They cautiously yet graciously take her in, despite realising some habits are harder to break than others.
Runt. The name is hissed at her from all directions as her grandparents fund her education, allowing her to attend one of the best, privately owned boarding schools on Mars. Loneliness is her companion as her peers pick on her second hand uniform, tangled hair and bitten fingernails, but from the bruises, long nights locked outside and the taunting, she learns to run the fastest, fade into the shadows and rely on her own wits.
Cadet Cordes. She’s told the Federation Intelligence and Security Agency only take on the best of the best, those with potential to do great things and serve diligently when she’s accepted at the age of twenty-one, a Bachelor of Law and Political Science under her belt. Her Grandfather couldn’t be prouder, boasting of her accomplishments at every political event he attends – she is following in his footsteps and giving back to the organisation that has blessed them with such a wonderful, prosperous life. Training is tough, but she turns out to be tougher, excelling in both the classroom and field exercises.
Sweetheart. She graduates from the FISA Academy five months later, earning a reputation as the sharpest shooter in her class. Posted on the Moon, her first few years on the job are spent working alongside local law enforcement units and officers with a lifetime of experience on her, taking down small crime units and criminals big enough that they make headlines in local newspapers. The detectives only start calling her Special Agent Cordes when she makes her first kill, then her second only moments later as what was supposed to be a simple reconnaissance assignment takes a turn for the worst. Her hands shake uncontrollably that night.
Amanda Stonehouse. She’s recommended for her first undercover assignment at the age of twenty-five, posing as an assistant for a reputable Federation official believed to be hiring thugs to investigate, threaten and harass his competition for the upcoming election. She doesn’t blink when she leaves the field and the newspapers say he’s gone into early retirement, or the fact that he disappears completely from public view a few weeks later.
Bella Burke. Yong-mi Seon. Madame Manon. Red. Kyra Langton. Headmistress Conway. She gives her blood, sweat, body, and soul to the job when her Grandfather dies, having no ties to hold her back (the kind of Agent the FISA relishes, she learns too late). With each assignment, she stores away a little more of herself, immersing herself in each world and fictional life she creates. It reaches the stage where Samantha Cordes is wiped from the system completely, and any signs of her existence are destroyed as she follows her orders to do whatever it takes.
Camilla Preston. A human trafficking ring in the Telecore Belt gets on the wrong side of the Federation means it’s no longer willing to turn a blind eye. She allows herself to be taken in the night, to be put on a pedestal and used to draw the attention of the ring’s leader. He gives her to his son, Abel, as a gift and enticement to become more actively involved in the family business. Abel is different, though – he looks away whenever the girls are paraded in front of potential customers, winces whenever one is mistreated, speaks up when things got out of hand, and he insists that she is free to do as she pleases around his house whenever she isn’t needed by his father. She shudders under his touch a few weeks later after an evening being spoken to as an equal, his hands on her the gentlest she has ever felt as his lips trace over every bruise and scar. He has a daughter, he confides in her, that lives with her mother on Ceres – each girl that is taken and sold also has a family, parents ones that cried out in desperation when they found their child’s bed empty, children that lost mothers, husbands that lost soulmates. That’s why he can’t live up to his family’s name.
Emi Mendax. The last contact FISA receives contains the names and locations of the ring’s main perpetrators before Special Agent Cordes goes rogue. Everyone she has ever blindly hurt of done worse to in the name of the Federation, without stopping to think if the sentence was just or of the damage she was leaving in her path, haunts her as she flees the Asteroid and does what she’s best at: disappears. Well aware that she has far too many secrets in her head for the Federation to let her go without a fight and giving in to the overwhelming guilt, the first real feeling that she’s experienced in a long time, she comes across a tin-can of a ship that was only meant to take her Venus. That was over a year ago.
