The Eta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was chartered on May 5, 1974 but its conception had begun long before its actual chartering. Founding Fathers Kenneth Hale, Larry Houston, Jesse Webb and George Serger began the dream of this chapter by pledging with the Blood Sweat and Tears line at the Beta Upsilon chapter at the Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. These daring young men were required to be at the campus every morning not by car mind you, but by foot. These four men while at the University of Houston carried themselves in the Kappa style that we all know, and four other students were curious of this great bond. Our next founding fathers were Karl Barrett, Alvin Brown, Bufford Anderson, and Gerald McElvy. These men pledged on the line of “Khaos”. Thus the bond went from zero to eight. By the guidelines of the National office of Kappa Alpha Psi, they needed ten members to form a charter and Mark Roberts and Rudolph Grey were the two who completed the requirements. These 10 young men were the epitome of campus and before long everyone and their brother wanted to be a Kappa. They emulated our original founding fathers in every way and that following semester the family of Eta Lambda began. The first charter line was called “Kutty Sark” and it had 12 members on it. They were Michael Bailey, Aubrey Bufford, Alan Wilson, Autrey Johnson, Milton Hollis Thaddeus Weaton, James Randolf, Marvin Mitchell, Keith Wade, Rodney Adams, Ronald ’ Ballard, and Kenneth Simmons.

Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr. was the first African-American astronaut, to perform an extra-vehicular activity, also known as a spacewalk. He is also a member of the Eta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, also known as the World Famous Spacecity Nupes.
